Benjamin Trail NP2, Synthetic

All gas springs (gas pistons, gas rams) are NOT created equal! The Nitro Piston 2 has it all over the original Nitro Piston and almost every other gas spring on the market. Most gas springs have a reputation of being hard to cock, but the NP2 put an end to that. According to airgun writer Tom Gaylord, it's the easiest-cocking gas piston he's ever shot. But Crosman didn't stop the improvements there. They also improved the trigger so it feels like it's been tuned! Imagine that: A factory trigger that breaks crisp and clean. It has a significantly lighter trigger-pull, not one of those so-called "lawyer" triggers that requires Herculean strength to shoot. As long as they were making improvements, Crosman decided to make a better and more effective integral sound suppression system that really is quiet. You'll notice an immediate difference between the report from your Nitro Piston 2 air rifle and the older Nitro Piston guns or other brands. So, let's add up what you'll get in this great package: Easy cocking, fantastic trigger and less noise. And, it's assembled in Crosman's plant in Bloomfield, New York.

Upgrade the scope, mounts, and trigger assembly and this turns into a real nice rifle.

Pros
Very nice gun, powerful and quiet. Cocking effort isn't too bad either.

Cons
The stock scope is junk, broke my first one after about 100 shots, broke second after only six.... (airgun depot got my scope refunded and delivered within a few days - great customer service from both airgun depot and crossman)

My gun came super quick ! I ran a couple of paatches down the barrel put the scope on sighted in adjusted the trigger and I'm a happy boy ! with a 18 grain pellet it folds a penny almost in half (stuck on duct seal) at 15 yards ! I got about 600 pellets though it and couldn't be happier...

Ok, there's been a lot of talk about accuracy and power. I bought mine because of a good deal and did know nothing about the gun. When I started shooting with it I had bad groups at 25 yards so started to read in forums. I should say I read A LOT, I mean it. I changed the scope for an UTG 4-16x56, cleaned the barrel with WD-40 without touching o-rings, and shot about 600 pellets. Now this gun shoots like a 4000 dollar sniper rifle. I can shoot a coin at 70 yards easily. It is an awesome gun, very precise but a little heavy. Be careful when loading the piston as you could bent the barrel (I did it and restored to original position with the help of a big chair). I am very happy with this rifle. Cheers from Patagonia, ARGENTINA !

Pros
accuracy, quality, Picattiny rail and price.

Cons
Very heavy.

I own in excess of seven break barrel type air rifles, and this Benjamin Trail NP2 seems to be one of the best of the bunch when it comes down to general good properties! The rifle lives up to all the claims of repeatable excellent accuracy, power, and being about as quiet as any of of the other rifles I have which make this claim. The only change I have made to the rifle I purchased was to purchase a Center Line scope from the Crosman outlet which had more features than the adequate scope which came with the rifle as purchased. The newer scope offers more enlargement of the target and also offers features used by military sniper scopes. It has enhanced an already accurate rifle to an even more accurate set up. The rifle shot very well when I first received it, but the rifle gets more accurate the more I shoot it- which is not uncommon for these types of air rifles. I've found using the Crosman 10.5 grain Ultra Mag Pellets offer the best and most consistent grouping in this rifle.

Pros
As far as pros, I can't say enough about the accuracy of the Benjamin Trail, It comes with a very acceptable 3-9 scope which does the job just fine.

Cons
I can't really come up with any cons with this rifle. I don't know how it handles other types of pellets because I was fortunate to find an accurate pellet right at the beginning of my testing.

Couldn't ask for a better rifle for the money .Unfortunately the scope is not so good as it took about 2 hrs to get sighted in . Put it down and had lunch , went back to shooting and had to start from scratch . Oh well I think I will have to spend the bucks and get better one with my next retirement check . All in all great gun ! Will be getting another one for my grandson ! Thanks again to you folks for a job well done .

Pros
Good rifle

Cons
Not a great scope

The scope and rings that came with it could not handle the recoil. The scope would move in the mounts, I replaced the mounts. Then the point of impact would change every 20-30 shots .I replaced them with a UTG 30mm 3-12 mill dot. Complete clean up and re lube of the piston. Replaced the plastic pivot washers for the barrel pivot with copper ones. I worked over the trigger( Who needs a warranty). Now 69 yard shots on ground squirrels no problem. I was shooting with guys that have Gamo air rifles they were impressed. After the mods I think this rifle will shoot as good as one costing much more.

Pros
Even after the mods I'm happy with what I paid for the rifle and new scope.

Cons
Should come with a better scope, even if price was higher. I would buy another with out a scope and put a good one on it.

I bought this rifle to deal with pest rodents on my property, and to introduce myself to Airgun shooting. Sadly it seems that this setup is utterly inadequate for anything but casual plinking. I was aware of the need to clean and loktite all screws at the beginning so that was done when I got the gun. I have put 1500 rounds through the rifle and it has been a source of endless frustration. The most serious problem is the propensity for the barrel to come loose leading to a severe loss of accuracy. Every couple hundred rounds I would have to loosen the stock and re tighten the barrel hinge bolt to remove play. Fine, cheap nylon washers, I can accept that. Replaced the washers with brass ones, cleaned and loktited the bolt which was an improvement, but not enough. The good groups got better, but the bad groups remain. I shoot cards of 9 1/2 in dia targets at 25 yards and the POI will shift dramatically from one target to the next. I will have a 1/2 in group plus one flyer on one target, and a seemingly random 2 - 3" group on the next, the next target will have a 1/2" group, but 2 inches low. Same rest, same hold, same ammo, same gun. I have to constantly chase the POI with the turrets in order to keep hitting the target. I can get everything dialed in and put shots on target, put the gun away and the next day POI will be INCHES off. The existence of some good groups seems to suggest that the gun, and the shooter are reasonably capable of that level of accuracy. The only solution I can offer is that the bundled scope is shifting internally with the recoil and/or as the gun sits, but I am hesitant to purchase a $400 scope for a $200 gun, and that's only a guess. With all that said, the gun is fun to shoot, the scope is clear and powerful, the gun has plenty of power to do the job, and it has taught me a LOT about hold, trigger control, and technique. However I still am left wishing I had spent a few hundred more on a hatsan, Diana, or walther under lever gun instead. My next gun will probably be a hatsan pcp and this will wind up relegated to the closet until I get my hands on a spare scope to try on it.

Pros
Cheap Powerful Quiet

Cons
Poor quality Sketchy optics Barrel comes loose Mediocre trigger

Got this rifle about two weeks ago and before mounting the scope on it I fired 250 22cal. Pellets into a block of wood to break it in. I had a 3x9 Hawk Vantage IR that I had purchased from Air gun depot that I mounted to the rifle. Have about 400 rounds threw it and it's really turning into good shooter. Scope and rifle seem to be a good combination. Photo shown is typical on a good day. So far using Crossman Premier 14.3 hp

Pros
I like the thumb hole stock, it's not that heavy like some say. Smooth cocking, pretty quiet ,makes more noise hitting the plywood target board than the rifle firing.

Cons
I like a good trigger and this one just doesn't cut it. Pretty much to be expected for a gun at this price . Will put an aftermarket trigger in it.

Are you still anticipating in stock on June 30? Will the rifle still be on sale for $180 then?

asked Oliver from USA

This product has been discontinued.

Mark from USA

Has anyone attached a bipod? What are your suggestions

asked Rick D

Is the scope included & is it worth having or do I need to upgrade?

asked Ricardo

What is the best pellet to use with this gun for small game?

asked roy

I use crosman ultra mag's 14.3grn. found they were the best grouping of about for other kinds I tried. On this day 9/20/16 with very little wind I grouped 1/2" at 20 yrds. 3/4" at 40 yrds. and 4" group at 90 yrds could not believe it. But that's true.Thats my Benjamin trail NP2 in .22cal.with a a leaper UTG 4to 16 scope with mila dots.using the 6th dot down for 90 yrds. I also shoot crosman HP 14.3 grn. but they don't group as good. Killed 3 ground hogs with the ultra mags at a little over 40 yrds. NOT BAD FRANK GAINES Pa.

Frank from USA

The best gun in my opinion for small game would be nitro piston 1 or 2 .22 cal they are very quiet and don't use metal springs also are easy to find parts

richard from USA

Crossman premier hallow point .22 cal gets the most consistent grouping where as any other has different specs such as more foot lbs or fps but all being less accurate.

Dominic from USA

I'd use quality pellets of at least 14.3gr, but they can be finicky so usually different pellets vary a lot in accuracy. You just have to try as many as you can to find the most accurate. I'd try JSB first, but H&N and Crosman Premier are excellent too. If you want hollow points I'd only consider H&N Crow Magnum.

ROBERT from USA

Predator PolyMags shoot, by far, the best in my .22 cal. I'm still trying different pellets looking to improve my groups.

Rod from USA

is that comes with the scope and wt is the specification of the scope

asked Loveneet from India

So is this 8.5 lbs or 5.5 lbs?

asked Peter from USA

Has anyone experienced the barrel pin coming loose? Can you see day light through the forks with barrel closed?

asked Hugh from USA

You mean the barrel pivot bolt? They come loose on a lot of people but Loctite on the screw usually fixes the problem. Yes you can see light between the barrel block and forks, all but around the pivot point which is where the washers are. Ideally you should replace those washers with metal ones that are sized to fit your gun. I take 5/16" SAE brass washers and reduce the OD a bit to fit the gun, and the thickness needs to be made so they're a snug fit between the ears. This greatly reduces the side to side play in the barrel. Wiggle your muzzle end side to side and you'll see what I mean.

ROBERT from USA

I have had this happen. There is a set screw on the right side (Bolt pin on left) that you can tighten once you get the bolt tight. Loosen the set screw, tighten the bolt, then tighten the set screw and you should be good.

Keith from USA

is this a wood finish?

asked randy

No it's just black plastic. There is no wood grain.

Daniel from USA

No it is not wood it is synthetic all weather.

Keith from USA

What does it really weigh?

asked Tomahawk

I put mine on a digital Postal scale and got a reading of 8 pounds exactly no ounces.

Squirrel Man

Wanted to know when will I be able to have this item. When will it ship
