Definitive Guide to Gamo Coyote

The Gamo Coyote Whisper air rifle redefines both what to expect out of a Gamo airgun, and the quality to expect from an entry level pre-charged pneumatic air rifle. The Coyote Whisper is a handsomely constructed European rifle, including a beautiful ambidextrous wood stock, a balanced and tuned valve, and a cold hammer forged European barrel. The added Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology keeps the firing decibel levels low. When it comes to build quality the Gamo Coyote simply beats all other competitors in its price range. Read our full review to see why the Coyote has just become one of the best low priced PCPs on the market.
Detailed Review

The Basic Anatomy of the Gamo Coyote Whisper

The real draw of the Coyote Whisper over other entry level PCP's is the amount of quality you get compared to the price you pay. Manufactured in Europe, a hardwood stock, fully adjustable trigger, cold hammer forged barrel, and a balanced and tuned valve are not typical features that you find on an air rifle in the same category. It's important to note for those that distrust the Gamo name, that this is completely different than the typical Chinese made Gamo guns that you'll find at your local big box retailer. This gun is fully European made and a brand new type of gun for Gamo.
The Coyote is a a great size for taking into the field at an overall length of 43". A perfect companion in the woods for a day of hunting or a great option for keeping it handy in your vehicle for impromptu target shooting sessions. One of the first things that stand out when you pick up the Coyote is its weight. This is not a lightweight gun by any means, however the heft of this little rifle really is a testament of how well the gun is made.
The bolt on the Coyote is a cock on opening design. It cycles smoothly with low effort and combined with the rotary magazine makes for very quick follow up shots. Another great feature of the bolt is that it is fully ambidextrous and can easily be switched for left-handed shooters with just a common allen wrench. The Coyote uses a rotary magazine that carries 10 shots for the .177 & .22 cal guns, and 8 shots for the .25 cal Coyote. Spare magazines are now available from Gamo so you can have plenty of loaded magazines ready to take into the field.
One of the things that really makes the Coyote Whisper stand out is that at such a great price you?re getting a precision cold hammer forged barrel. Hammer Forged Rifling was invented during WW2 and is much more popular today in Europe than the more prevalent Button Rifling found stateside. The advantage of this process is an exceptional finish, a stronger barrel, and most important of all, higher accuracy.
The Gamo Coyote Whisper air rifle includes a new fully adjustable custom action trigger. The trigger is very similar to the Gamo Smooth Action Trigger (SAT). If you love the SAT trigger, you'll feel right at home with the smooth pull of the Coyote trigger.
The Coyote PCP air rifle has been upgraded using Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology. This integrated suppressor severely reduces the loudness of the original Coyote (that was rather loud!). The result is an average decibel reading of 73dB. That's low enough where your neighbors won't come knocking on the door.

Shot Performance, Calibers & Loudness

The accuracy of the Coyote air rifle is phenomenal. When paired with a quality optic like the BSA Contender it is capable of dime size groups at 25 yards, and you should have no problem getting groups within an inch at 50 yards with good conditions.
The Coyote fills to 232 bar (or 3365 PSI), which is more than many other PCPs. At a full 3365 psi fill you'll be able to obtain 30 good level shots before velocity drops off. Through our testing we were really impressed with the lack of FPS variance between shots. The balanced valve from Gamo is very impressive.
The Coyote Whisper is the second generation of the Coyote that now includes Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology. The result is a decibel reading around 73 decibels. Not the absolute quietest PCP but comparable to other PCPs in its price range.

Accessories

First time PCP air rifle owners can also take advantage of buying an Air Venturi G6 pump combined with the Coyote, or a Coyote and BSA Contender scope to help save money. The Air Venturi G6 can pressurize guns up to 4,500 psi, more than enough to get your Coyote to a full fill. It ships with spare parts so you can maintain the pump over time. We also highly recommend the Hill MK4 pump with its smooth & efficient pumping action.
If you'd like to skip the workout of pumping up your PCP, then you'll need to invest in a carbon fiber tank rather than the standard aluminum scuba tanks. The carbon fiber allows you to fully fill your Coyote due to the higher psi demands to gain a full fill. The 90 cu in tanks are small enough to tote around in a backpack and fill your Coyote 6-7 times before needing to be refilled. Not all compressors can fully pressurize to 4500 psi, so make sure to call ahead to your local shop to confirm their capabilities. (Most local paintball stores can handle carbon fiber tanks and some scuba shops can as well if given notice).
The fill port for the Coyote is found under a cover by the gauge. The correct air probe for your pump or tank is included. Most hand pumps come with a Foster quick disconnect fitting, so you?ll want to pick up an Air Venturi Male Quick-Disconnect fitting if you want to use your hand pump for more than one rifle. Also note that the Coyote Whisper does not come with sling studs, we suggest you pick up a pair of GrovTec Quick-Detach Sling Swivel Studs to screw into the base of your Coyote to attach a sling to if you desire.
Make sure to post your own review of the Gamo Coyote once you've received it and shoot some lead down range. We welcome your comments and questions.
High Quality Entry Level PCP There is a high degree of attention to detail and quality European construction usually reserved for higher priced PCPs. The Coyote has a beautiful ambidextrous wood stock, the new fully adjustable custom action trigger, 10 round magazine (8 for the .25 cal version), a balanced and tuned valve, Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology, and of course the cold hammer forged barrel. These are features not typically found on an air rifle in the same category.
Precision Hammer Forged Barrel One of the things that really makes the Coyote stand out is that at such a great price you're getting a precision cold hammer forged barrel. Hammer Forged Rifling was invented during WW2 and is much more popular today in Europe than the more prevalent Button Rifling found stateside. The advantage of this process is an exceptional finish, a stronger barrel, and most important of all, higher accuracy.
Accuracy & Power Due to the hammer forged barrel, you're getting both a stronger barrel and a more accurate barrel, right from the first shot. The air cylinder can hold up to 232 Bar (3364 psi). The extremely flat spread results in velocity made us wonder if Gamo was hiding a regulator in the Coyote. But we've confirmed there is no regulator, rather the Coyote is just very well designed and well balanced. At a full fill you'll be able to obtain 30 good level shots (20 level shots if you're only filling to 3000 psi). When paired with a quality optic like the BSA Contender, it is capable of dime size groups at 25 yards, and 1" groups at 50 yards. Shot Graph
PCP Air Rifles: Pumps vs Tanks Filling a Pre-charged Pneumatic air gun will always be easier with a tank than a hand pump, but the cost of a hand pump is far less than a tank (and no trips to the local dive shop or scuba shop are necessary). A lot of your decision comes down to how much shooting you plan on doing. For the occasional shooter, pumping up the gun won't seem such a burden. But the more you shoot, the more you'll be pumping which can become an arduous task. If this is your first PCP, we'd recommend starting with the pump, knowing that as you fall in love with PCP air guns, down the line you'll be investing in a scuba tank to speed things up.
Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology The Coyote has been upgraded using Whisper Fusion Silencing Technology. This integrated suppressor severely reduces the loudness of the original Coyote (that was rather loud!). The result is an average decibel reading of 73 dB. That's incredibly quiet and while not as quiet as the Marauder (68 dB) or the AT44 (64 dB). That's low enough where your neighbors won't come knocking on the door.
