squirrels beware
June 17, 2013
I chose this gun to take back my yard's territory from ground squirrels who's tunnels were weakening the integrity of large hillside. After failed attempts of peaceful negotiations to get them to move out, the Gamo Hornet using the RWS Superdome .177 cal pellets were employed. I don't have much experience with scopes as far as quality/features go, but it magnified my target well enough for me to shoot it and once sighted in, the scope hasn't moved out of alignment. Perhaps it is because I used thread lock on the screws as the instructions suggest. In any case, this gun is a true value for the price!
Pros:
Price, deadly accurate at 40-50 feet (limited to shooters capacity), comes with a scope that works in the general sense, the scope also comes with covers- one of them is tinted yellow which helped keep the glare out, plus the gun just looks cool and is fairly light to hold.

lots of fun to shoot.
May 19, 2013
Just like the gamo big cat only with a dark grey stock, and a little less expensive. A lot of fun to shoot, I've shot right through steel aerosol cans with ease @ 30yrds. Ive taken down a crow and a grey tree rat with no problem.
Pros:
Not really expensive to buy or shoot. Crosman hollow points 7.9 seem to work just fine in it. Tried other pellets that were more expensive, but I keep coming back to the crosmans. I also can shoot this gun in my yard without bothering the neighbors.
Cons:
You HAVE to replace the two piece scope mount with a one piece scope mount ! the heavy forward recoil from the spring will move the zero after a dozen shots or so. I had re-sighted the gun a bunch of times. the size of the group stayed the same, but kept moving to the right on me. I also replaced factory scope with a better model, although heavier, in the same power 4 X 32. stock scope was ok to get started with. you have to learn how to hold this gun to shoot it. Let the weight of the gun absorb its own recoil. dont hold it too tightly. trigger is 2-stage, it has alittle travel, but its fine. I use a light weight shotgun style type of sling on mine.

Picky about ammo. Quality ammo will yield tight groups
December 4, 2012
I received this rifle through Airgun Depot as a birthday gift from my brother. Getting to the point, I've put about 2,000 rounds down the pipe with no detectable performance issues. It took about 10 rounds when I first received it, to decide the Gamo 4X scope was junk . I swapped it out for a 3 X 9 Centerpoint and I had bore sighted for 10 meters. 10 rounds of high end Crosman wad cutters got me shooting dime sized groups from bench rest position. As with all my rifles and pistols, I shot an assortment of pellet types and brands seeking out the best shooters. This rifle is a powerhouse and performs best with heavy high end pellets. Best results for targets are the Crosman wad cutters that come in a cardboard box. Best game rounds are Beeman crow magnums. Spend the extra money and buy high end pellets and you will have a shooter capable of splitting hairs at 10 meters.
Pros:
Accuracy and consistency with no notable decline in performance after 2,000+ rounds.
Cons:
Picky about ammo. It likes the expensive merchandise. Toss the scope and upgrade before firing first round'.

if youre still thinking about this, youre overthinking it
November 16, 2012
I've had it since December 25th, 2011and I like it so far. I've never had a problem with it. Just wach out when mounting the scope because it does not go on like what you see on call of duty. There should be one knob on the top, and the other on the left hand side of the rifle (buttstock facing you). If you mount it the other way, you'll spend the rest of your life fussing with it. Even if you do mount it right, it's still not the easiest thing to sight in. Once you do, it's just a matter of keeping it clean and lubercated accordingy. MAKES A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT
Pros:
Great for bird hunting- delivers a knock-out punch (despite being a .177 and all). The scope gets the job done once you sight it in. It is accurate, it makes a great plinker. Overall, fun to own and shoot, not to mention low maintenance. Rather economical for its quality/performance.
Cons:
Good luck sighting in the scope. Be extra careful not to get the wrong fluids in the wrong places, especially the barrel. Dry up as much of the solvent as you can. Still expect the first shot to be crazy loud, though it should shoot normally after that.

Beautiful
August 6, 2012
This is an excellent rifle. I enjoy going out to the range and shooting my .223 rifle, but that gets expensive fast. This gun was my solution. It allows me to maintain my rifle skills with out the cost of expensive ammunition. I truly love this gun.
Pros:
Excellent power with little recoil. Mild audio impact
Cons:
The scope is ADEQUET at best.

March 5, 2012
Plenty of power, quiet, accurate! I shot 25 rounds in a 1" group at 15 yds. I will upgrade the scope as did one of the previous reviewers but a great gun over all for the price.
Pros:
Accuracy is great Enough power to hunt with
Cons:
Scope is fussy pain to sight in.

December 23, 2011
Nice and got the power, the only thing i can see wrong is the scope is no good i mean no good, get you a good scope and you got something to work with. Get you a CENTER POINT scope and see what it will do for your on your next Hunt....! ( one shot it all it take with this Boy here ).
Pros:
The power like no other air gun.... :) get you one...!
Cons:
The scope., it needs to be upgraded and bad.

Great Air Rifle
December 3, 2011
I love target practice with this rifle. It is accurate, powerful, and has great range. I am absolutely astonished at how far the air rifles have come since my days of the Daisy "pump 10 times" rifles...now just one cock and let 'er rip!
Pros:
It is so much performance for the price. It is an excellent air rifle.

does the job
June 15, 2011
A friend bought this rifle and I got a chance to shoot it today. I love it, I own a vamp bigcat 1200 .22cal. Look the same as my bigcat. 177cal. But newer gun. As he was getting ready to leave my air rifle shoot range. I told him if he need to sell it let me know. I buy it from him, plus I may order me one to add to my gamo's.

Is this gun powerful enough to kill any small game like squirrel or rabbits?
By George W. Hines from Sulphur Springs Texas on January 23, 2012

Answer:
I bought this gun primatly for shooting gophers up until now I had been useing a 22 pistol this gun is cheaper to operate yhan a 22 and does not panic the neighbors but this gun is fine for plinking off a squrel or a cotton tail for the dinner table.

I own the Gamo Hornet; find it to be too loud using the Gamo blueflame pellet. Will shooting a heavier pellet lower the noise level? Any suggestion as to the weight?
By leonard from lancaster pa. on December 15, 2011

Answer:
I found crosman pellets to be not as loud, as the faster moving pellets.
By Kevin from Phoenix, Arizona on August 6, 2012

Answer:
As Leonard said, faster moving pellets are your solution. Hypersonic pellets Tend to be quieter but don't always have the force you need. I would suggest The Gammo Tomahawk round as a happy medium.
