Good gun for the price

Nice, light weight, well constructed.
The only issue I really have is the lack of physical sights, the scope is nice but IMO all guns should have at least fixed sights.
Pros:Good construction, power and low cocking effort.Cons:Lack of physical sights. |

As an adult shooter, acquired this for basement target practice. At 10 yards, this is very accurate. Easy cocking effort and the thumb hole grip configuration is great- wish it was on more models of different brands. Was used for some pest control but wouldnt attempt anything more than 10 yards (squirrel). Scope could be better, and so would regular sights but overall this is a great gun.
Pros:Most everything!Cons:Scope. |

A Good Start

The Gamo Recon is a nice rifle. Compact, attractive and accurate. It is attractively priced and well made. I removed the scope which came with the gun since it shot loose and would not hold center. Substituted a Tasco Red Dot 30mm which worked great but also shot loose due to mounting difficulty with Gamo groove. I heard that cutting a piece of nylon strap and installing it between the scope and gun would tighten the mount, will try this next. My son and I actually shoot it better without any scope at all, by instinct if you will using the barrel for alignment. We can make consistent shots to 20 yards with this method into 4 inches. Pretty neat. now if it only had a nice set of iron sights. Boosting power level to 750 fps would be sweet.
Pros:Compact Thumbhole Stock Accurate Reasonably powerfulCons:Lack of iron sights Poor Scope quality Trigger could use improvement Scope mounting system is weak, not weaver type solid mount Perhaps drilled and tapped for scope mount? |

I recenly purchased this as my 11 year old son's first air rifle. We shot it for the first time this weekend. Within a few minutes and a dozen rounds or so my son, who has never shot any rifle before, was getting one inch groupings at 15 yards or so. Also seems to have quite a bit of power. We are using a simpile sheet metal pellet trap as a back drop to a cardboard target and at that same 15 yards distance the pellets are doing significant damage to the sheet metal. Also seems much quieter than what I expected after reading through the reviews of the Gamo spring - break barrel rifles online.
I ve read a few negative comments about the gamo triggers. Seems fine to me. Not a big fan of the safety as it does not engage autmatically when the gun is cocked but it is easy and simple to use.
Only problem is I am having a heck of a time getting the scope zerod in left to right. Every shot is a couple inches ot the left. No matter how much I adjust the set screw it doesn't seem to make a significant difference and we were shooting in virtualy no wind. Tried to read the instruction manual for ideas but though there is a brief section in english the majority appers to be in Spanish so no help there. Will go online and see what I can find.
I should point out though that there were two other issues - first off Airgundepot apparently had some confusion on their site and though I ordered the item that says it includes the free pellets and can target they were not included. However after contacting airgun dept they apologized for the mistake and said they would ship them out. Haven't seen them yet but I will take them at their word.
The other issue is that the description says that the scope comes mounted. It did not. airgundepot claims this Gamo sometimes ships them unmounted. Not a real big deal, but the rifle with the scope mounted won't even fit in the box so I think that it should be pretty easy to tell when this happens and correct it.
All in all this apers to be a very good gun, well worth the money. A little dissapointed in airgundepot but they are doing what they can to make up for it and so I woudl still recomend them and use them again (I want one!)
Pros:Easy to shoot, easy to cock. lots of power, fairly accurate, decent noise level. Great first air rifle.Cons:Scope did not come mounted and is difficult to sight in. The entire owners amnual is not translated into english. |

Gamo Recon

This gun is good for a beginner but doesn't stack up for any bird or varmint hunting. Great gun to teach kids to handle and use. Gamo should take my advice and include the 3x9 gamo scope with this gun. The standard scope will not stay in place during shooting and is very difficult for kids to use. Accuracy beyond 25 yards is non-existant even with good pellets. Only use flat or hollow point style pellets as all others are very inaccurate

I purchased this rifle for my son for christmas, and let's just say that when I pulled it out of the box a little envy crept in. I couldn't believe the quality of this youth air rifle, beautiful bull barrel and great feel. Of course I also purchased a larger scope and solid one piece scope mount and bi-pod for the rifle as well. After getting the rifle set up with the new accessory's, it took about 6 shots every ten yards to get it zeroed in for about 50 yard shots in our backyard. My son loves it , and I am highly impressed with the look and performance of the gun.

Nice Gun

I ordered this gun for my 6 year old son.
He is an average sized boy at 4 feet tall. The pull length is still a little long for him, He will grow into it. The only reason for the 3 stars is the Scope mounting. Their is no scope stop pin with the scope and it slides back 1/16 on every shot. They need to include a stop pin or a better quality scope mount. Still a great gun for the money. Made in spain and not China. Much better quality.

Very nice air rifle and bought it for my son and niece and they both have no problem charging the rifle. The only problem is that the scope seems to slide back from the recoil but some glue and we are back in business sending pellets down range! Thanks!

Not Powerful Enough
December 13, 2008
![]()
I'm pretty into airguns and I thought this gun would be fast enough to take care of pest. Well It can if your close and have a head shot. But the velocity is simply not enough. But that is not the reason I gave it a low rating. The accuracy was very disappointing. I thought that is was the transition from the season of winter to summer, but the pellets were going everywhere but the target. I could see em flyin feet away from the target. And finally the trigger pull is ridiculous. Its hard to make a good shot because of the hard trigger pull. Maybe just a bad gun I got but I do not think so. But the gun is very solidly built. No complaints about that. But for the price, spend a couple more bucks and get the phantom.

The Gamo Recon is a great gun for amateurs as it is easy to use, but has features suitable to intermediate shooters. It's a nice weight and pretty quiet. I like the fact that it has high accuracy, which makes up for it's average velocity. Overall, I would reccommend this gun for anyone who wants an affordable but quality air gun.

Impressed

Having experience with firearms as a hobby and career, I wanted an air rifle to hone my marksmanship skills in my basement, scare varmin out of my garden, and train younger family members. I was very impressed with the carbine like feel and impressive performance out of the box. So impressed that my first thought upon pulling the trigger was that of my trusty 10/22.
I like it alot and at the same time, I picked up a box of PBA ammo just in case!

Out of the box this is a very nice looking gun. Well made and solid feel to it. First time I shot it, it was very powerful. I underestimated it. The scope on it works very well to; with a nice zoom on it. One of the things I like about it most is that most guns in the 500 fps range are multi pump. But this is break barrel which is very convenient. Over all this is a well made powerful airgun. Highly recommend.

Yes, it's an entry level gun. I'd use for teaching children and some smaller framed women.I bought one to teach the wife as mine were too big and heavy for her. Worked perfectly and no problems.
