At Airgun Depot, we receive many inquiries for the quietest air rifle with the most power available. Before, there really were not any inexpensive options over 1000 fps quiet enough not to disturb sensitive neighbors. Gamo is the first to meet the huge demand for quieter power. Introducing the new Gamo Whisper!

The Gamo Whisper air rifle will change the way you think about hunting with spring-piston airguns! Offering 1200fps with PBA or 1000fps with standard lead in a weatherproof stock, you are sure to be ready for the elements. The non-removable noise dampener reduces the noise up to 52% from standard spring air rifles! We, at Airgun Depot, have tested this rifle and it really is as quiet as it claims, although the difference is only noticable to those downrange or to the side of the shooter. To the shooter the noise dampening is not significant becuase the sound is suppressed and pointed back towards the shooter to lessen the carry. The Whisper is a great varmint control gun in areas where you are concerned about disturbing the neighbors.

GREAT
November 19, 2013
I have read a lot of reviews on the Gamo Whisper. This airgun is extremely accurate, I have shot it at targets several times and it is pretty easy to get really tight grouping with the scope and gun combo. it is also extremely deadly on varmints and birds. I have killed several pigeons at about 40 yards.

Trigger Squeeze!!!!
June 23, 2013
I am just giving a little feedback about my recent purchase of the gamo air rifle. I am a weapons instructor and I am very experienced with rifle shooting, so I can tell you that the trigger squeeze on this air rifle is very difficult to control. No matter how slow and smooth you try to squeeze the trigger the spring comes forward on the trigger assembly causing a very noticeable jerk of the whole weapons system making for a very hard time on shot consistency. I would say that 4 out of 5 could be placed into a 1 inch grouping at 25 meters, but you will always throw one of your shots, at no fault of your own, due to the heavy jerking caused by the trigger assembly.
Pros:
All around it's a great weapon. It hits very hard and can take out large squirrels all day. It is a quiet weapon when you use lead, if you use the steel shot it literally sounds like a .22 rifle when it impacts something solid. Your neighbors will not know what your are up too if you use the lead ammo.
Cons:
Trigger has a very hard snap to it when squeezed causing the weapon to throw your shot groupings towards your strong side.

April 18, 2013
I could not get this gun to shoot a consistent group, with or with out the scope. I let my marine neighbor shoot it and he couldn't get it shooting straight either. Don't waste your money, it is not worth it. And the noise level is more than expected
Pros:
lightweight
Cons:

Accuracy in Question
February 24, 2013
After remounting the scope which came with this gun three times, purchasing a new 'better' quality scope, trying to shoot the gun with open sights, and finally remounting the original scope, I cannot achieve any type of reasonable accuracy. The mounts/rings seem secure (two different sets) and the barrel lock seems secure. I broke out my bench rest equipment and shooting at 15 yards. I continue to get two or three shots in a 3/4" group and then the next shot might be 1 1/2 inch high and the following shot 1 1/2 inch low (3 inch spread). I have used three types of pellets - all with about the same results. This gun was to be for varmint control and I don't have enough faith in the gun to even use it. I bought this gun because of its reputation but sadly it has left me sorely disappointed.
Pros:
Styling Ease of cocking
Cons:
Accuracy Noise

I must have gotten a bad one because I can't get this thing to group less than 3" at 30 yards. My 22-250 shoots less than 1MOA so it's not me. The trigger on this thing is crap. I would not pay $200.00 for this gun.
Pros:

Great buy!!!
December 25, 2012
So I received my Gamo air rifle today and I love it. I sighted in the scope very easily and was having fun shooting in no time. This rifle has a lot of power, can't wait to pop some rabbits and squirrel's for some good eating. I watched a lot of reviews on the rifle and the video's always seemed loud when they shot the rifle, but it really is not loud at all. I am very impressed with this air rifle. I recommend this air rifle to anyone wanting a Gamo air rifle.

Easy to set up Good looking Well built Fun, Fun, Fun

gamo whisper
December 4, 2012
Should be called the BANG, it is far from a whisper. Nicely built for the price. We'll see how the scope holds up. Pretty cheesy mount, took 10 shots to get a 3/4 grouping of 2 before the rain came, so we shall see. Hopefully I can adjust the trigger pull, it is a bit stiff. Would be nice to have seen through mounts to use the open sights, they look a bit high for the rear sight though.
Pros:
Seems well built, and durability will be in the future.
Cons:
Scope mounts and noise. Not real sure if i'm getting 1200 ft/sec with the raptor pellets.

Bringing the boom
November 25, 2012
The gamo whispers is an awesome air rifle. Super accurate, only took 3 to 4 pellets how to dial in the scope. Very accurate from short to long distance. One complaint; package says it was supposed to come with free pellets. The only pellets I got were the ones I purchased.
Merchant Response:
Includes: Scope: 3-9x40mm Air Rifle Scope With One Piece Solid Mount and .177 Caliber Air Rifle
Pros:
I like the accuracy and the ease of loading.
Cons:
The scope mount Is one solid piece. There's an anti shock bar attached to the rifle and the scope is mounted to it for placement for the scope. However, after shooting the rifle a bunch, the mounting hole gets "worn out" and that could affect the anti shock of the scope.

Best Airgun I have ever bought
October 20, 2012
This is no toy. On my first test in the backyard, I shot at my fence thinking it would stop the pellet, boy was I wrong. It went through my fence and the neighbors fence. For plinking small game, this is an awesome riffle. If you had to survive in the woods, this would be the riffle to take.
Pros:
Power is awesome. Built in silencer wont wake your neighbor. Very accurate once sighted properly.
Cons:
Not much to dislike...it's no AR rifle, but it gets the job done.

Whisper is not accurate, aim is...
October 9, 2012
The gun is light the scope is excellent. The aim is so true I love it, better than the more expensive gun I had been borrowing. However, whisper is just not true, it is much louder than the gun. I was using although that is to a large extent because this guns stock is hollow versus a wooden stock. Still, it just isn't that quiet! Nice to handle and shoot overall for the price.
Pros:
The scope & price
Cons:
The noise

EXCELLENT RIFLE, VERY CONSISTENT POWER AND ACCURACY. LIKE GAMO SUGGESTS, I RECOMMEND USING PBA PLATINUM PELLETS OR POINTED PELLETS. I USE IT FOR TARGET SHOOTING AND PEST CONTROL (GREEN IGUANAS) WHICH ARE A HUGE PROBLEM PUERTO RICO. I AM REALLY SURPRISED WITH THIS RIFLE AND I'M SURE YOU'LL ALSO LIKE IT. THE SCOPE TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND PELLET WASTE TO SET IT BUT AFTER IT IS SET IT'S DECENT.

Had great expectations. Initially disappointed and finally satisfied. I received the rifle and the the front sight was missing. It came lose in the box and when I replaced it it was a piece of junk. Replacing it was useless. The rear sight moved so much that the combination of front and rear sights felt like a clown target practice. Since I planed to use the scope the sights were removed. Sighted in the scope and it shot like a charm. I invited a fried whom is an avid airgun shooter and the @#&T hit the fan. He couldn't hit the bulls eye. The scope was defective. If you bobbed your head up and down while looking through the scope the target would move up and down. I finally purchased a Tasco scope and am pleased with the result. The noise level SEEMS high. However, it seems high to the shooter. The noise is directed back. To a spectator standing forward of the shooter the noise level is reduce. Be careful with the penetration power. This is not juniors 10 year old toy.
Pros:
Power and accuracy
Cons:
Sights and Gamo's scope

Gamo Whisper
June 19, 2012
I bought this pellet rifle about two weeks ago. When I pulled it out of the box, I noticed that the rear sight was adjusted heavy to the left, seeing that I centered it right away and started shooting at targets, only to find out I had to move the rear sight back to the far left again. I was able to maintain a good grouping on my target, that being a 3.5" floppy disk. I later put the scope on the rifle. After reading the other reviews, I thought it would be a good idea to use a light weight thread lock on the screws and let it sit overnight. Once the scope was sighted in, I was pretty much parking the pellets anywhere on the target that I was aiming at and I'm no pro at shooting. In regards to the type of pellets that I'm using right now, the Crosman Wadcutter and Pointed are working out just fine for this rifle. I fired a few rounds of the alloy type pellets, you will hear a small crack when fired. The lead rounds work fine for me. The only other sound you will hear when you pull the trigger will be the sound of the spring being released. As far as the trigger action goes, again I'm not a pro shooter, but the action feels fine for what I'm using it for, once you get used to it.
Pros:
In the right hands, this rifle is a nail driver and the cocking action isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was able to get the gun sighted in and rock'n, in under 300 rounds.
Cons:
The iron sights need to be improved, you shouldn't have to jack the rear sight so far to the left to dial it in.

Good value on sale for $210
June 16, 2012
Best gun for the money. Consistent shooting. Very quiet if you shoot pellets 7 grains or heavier (lead). The 1200 fps ammo breaks the speed of sound. You will hear a distict 'CRACK!" when this happens. Using quiet ammo, it takes a head shot to drop a squirrel more than 10 yards out. I have several hits using Gamo Red Fire, and Gamo Rocket and Crosman Destroyer. On my gun the open sights were slightly skewed off center to the left, but accurate. When you install the scope use a medium duty thread locker and let it sit overnight. If you fail to do this, the vibrations from the spring unloading WILL loosen the scope. It will get quieter after 5-10 shots. Then most of the noise comes from the spring. I shoot in my backyard in the city all the time. On mine the scope is kinda funky. I sighted it at 3x power. It is accurate, however, if I zoom in to full power the shots hit high and right about six inches!! at forty yards. At forty yards I can hit a small bird on 3x power. Head shots on squirrels are kinda tough at this range cause they don't hold still more than 2-3 seconds. The trigger totally stinks. I ordered a replacement from Charlie Datuna, $35. I highly recommend this. It is easy to change if you have the handyman skills to install a garbage disposal.
Pros:
Overall I am satisfied with this gun. I am having fun with it.
Cons:
If I had the chance to do it all over again... I would by a .22 caliber Gamo Whisper with a gas spring, add a Charlie trigger, and buy a $50 fixed 4x power scope.

Gamo whisper
December 23, 2011
I got this rifle as a gift back in 2009. Out of the box it is a nice rifle. The polymer stock is clean, well made, and comfortable. The gun is no problem to drag around the woods all day, especially if you mount a sling on it like i did. Ive heard many mixed reviews on the scope, but lets remember were only shooting 75-80 yards max. For what it is, its clear, easy to adjust, and holds its zero if properly mounted. By properly mounted, i mean i had to tighten every screw and adjust the scope stop. Once that is done, its rock solid. The iron sights arent the best, but i do like the tru-glow fiberoptics. They are great for low light hunting. The trigger has something to be desired. I adjusted it to its lightest, and its ok. Id say its around 6 lbs, however if you are like me and shoot lots of service rifle, you wont have a problem. Break in took about 500 rounds. Ive found that heavy pellets shot the best, i use the Champions choice Diablo match pellets, and have made a few 100 yard shots on a calm day. The silencer does work, as it sounds more like a muffled thud and not the typical crack. Bottom line, learn how to mount the scope, break it in properly, and find pellets it likes, and youll have a great, well rounded, reliable pellet gun for around 200$. The gamo whisper gets 4.5 stars.
Pros:
Reliable, comfortable, good looking, accurate, powerful, fairly light,
Cons:
long sight in period, scope needs proper mounting

Gamo Whisper
May 23, 2011
Bought this gun, as the brocs and cauliflower plants kept getting eaten but wasn't sure what was damaging my plants...I got this gun and was zeroing my scope , and out of the blue, a rabbit showed up in the backyard. Put my Gamo up and one shot about 25 yards away...head shot...The gun worked great. very powerful . and the garden got rid of the rabbit !! The only thing that I didnt find accurate is the scope, and it kept moving off the mount even after tightening all the loose nuts..but it kept coming off the mount. I ended up replacing the scope and it worked much better than the one sent with the gamo, but still the scope kept moving off the mount with repeated firing. I think the mount of the gun doesnt hold the scope well, so I ordered a new mount and rings , hopefully this will help keep the scope steady. Otherwise I think the gun is excellent, accurate and powerful.

Bought this gun and it is without a doubt the best pellet rifle that I have ever owned. It is very accurate and quiet ... yes quiet. The reviews I read before I purchased this gun said that this is not a quiet gun, I beg to differ. It is not quiet if you use the hi velocity pellets, but if you are using regular pellets, it is very quiet. Best purchase I have made ... very happy with the gun and the service ... OUTSTANDING!!!

I am a big game hunter, elk, moose, deer, etc. I had a pump up crossman that I used to run off varmits and shoot pigons. It worked OK at the time not knowing any different. When I received the Gamo I was impressed with the fill of it and the way it looked like a real rifle. I put the scope on it and went out to sight it in. Didn't have any trouble getting it on the mark. The I checked the penetration of the pellets in the blocks of wood the I was shooting. I would compare it to a 22 short. About 3 in the mourning I spotted a coon in the garden, about 40 yards away. The coon will not be in anyones garden again.

GREAT
August 23, 2010
I am only 12 but i am an air rifle expert. i recieved the Whisper for Christmas for '09. it is a extremely great air rifle. I have killed a bird at about 10 yards. The reason that i am including this is because i hit the bird behing the eye on one side but tore most of the head off on the other side. The gun is called whisper for a reason! it wont wake up your neighbors in a neighborhood. The balistics for this gun are AMAZING! the gun is inaccurate at 100+ yards. Please correct me if i am mistaken. This gun is a definate powerhouse. For best accuracy; stay with one pellet always! I currently am waiting to see if the gun has the power to kill a coyote. Due to the ballistic coef. this gun matches up.This gun makes a great birthday or Christmas present, and a great rodent exterminator!

I wouldn't call it quite a "Whisper". It is a bit louder than I anticipated - however is a very well made / quality airgun. It is extremely easy to use and as accurate as the shooter pulling the trigger. 8 for 8 chipmunks at 20 yards. I live in a residential area and shoot this gun quite often without drawing any attention from the neighbors.

July 15, 2010
I have read a lot of reviews complaining about the scope. Here is what I experienced on my Gamo Whisper Deluxe with 3 x 9 scope. Every screw, and I mean every one of the bolts and screws in the mounting rings were loose. I had to focus the scope initially and that took a lot of turns of the eye piece to do so. Then I set the eye relief which was comfortable for me. I tighten down all of the ring mount screws (diagonal alternate each screw) Then proceeded to sight it in at the intended distance to target, for me only 35 yards. I found the best consistency with Crossman Max and Gamo red tip deep penetration ammo. The gun shoots well and I will probably upgrade it to the nitro air piston. The included gold ammo shoots much faster so with it, I am about a inch high than with the aforementioned ammo. I will use it for greater distances if needed. Love the weight of the gun, it is fairly easy to pump and feels solid. I do recommend this gun.

Review Gamo Whisper
July 9, 2010
Great rifle. Have been shooting this rifle now for 6 weeks and it is extremely accurate and quiet, at least with the 1000 fps pellets. The 1200 fps break the sound barrier and therefore make a loud crack which you'd expect. I find the scope accurate putting pellets into a 1" target at 30 yards, and the trigger seems fine once you get used to it. Well worth paying extra for the RWS Superdome pellets, as they are devastating on squirrels, chickmunks, crows etc. and always right on when target shooting. Highly recommend.

May 21, 2010
Regarding spring piston, it seems like, if Gamo REALLY wanted to reduce noise, they should have made ALL of them ONLY with air pistons, because the spring is very noisy (to which others have also attested at other sites on the web, comparing its apparent noise to actually greater than a good RWS or Beeman of comparable quality). That said, it is a pleasure to have a full sized pellet rifle that is not as heavy as a standard hunting rifle (5.8 or so versus 8-9 pounds).

Gamo Whisper .17
May 21, 2010
A bit loud when heard from my end of the barrel, probably the spring. I have not heard it fired by someone else, so cannot attest to any "52% noise reduction" (how do they derive that precise a figure, anyhow!?) - it sounds as "loud as" my old "child's" RWS rifle, which seems also more accurate at short range [under 30 feet]. I do NOT like the scope, as it seems to be off after a few shots, and I always liked iron sights - the glowing sights on this gun are amazingly easy to see, even in low light. I "should have" got the .22 for what this does... however, too late.

Well after getting this Rifle I felt it was going to live up to the hype. It did for the most part. First it is not as quiet as one would like. (looking into this) and the Trigger is lacking some! as for this weapon with the light ammo it is fast but all over the place. After taking it out of the box I loaded it put the open sights on a can about 45 yards out and nailed it good! after spending days looking to get the scope zeroed in - with the lite ammo it wouldn't I put one round right in the back of the first one thinking I had it, then the next day I was off 2 inches to the right and the next day it was low 2 inches, this will make you crazy! GOT TO FIND BETTER AMMO. All in all I give it a 4 and thinking I should have went with the .22 cal weapon!

The pellets the gun comes with are bad they might go fast but are not accurate. If you want quiet power that is fairly accurate this is you gun.

June 2, 2009
I guess everyone has a different slant on things. I found the scope on this piece to be easily installed and very easily sighted in. Once on, I've not noticed any changes. I can consistently hit small targets the size of coke cans at 50 yards, with lead pellets. I've not done much 100 yard work yet, but suspect that the Raptor Pellet is the one for long distance shooting. I positively couldn't be more satisfied with this product. The trigger is two stage alright, but quite manageable. As one gun writer wrote, " Americans have been brainwashed to think you have to have a light trigger to shoot well". Get used to the trigger, and it will serve you well. I downed one of those obscene black birds at about 50 yards. The only live target I've shot so far, but am expecting good hunting from this piece.

Just got the gun yesterday, took a while to zero in the scope, but able to group within one inch from 25 yards. Had a Crosman with very little power. Needed something to take care of a groundhog problem. Waiting for it to show its head. Gun is great with good power. Highly recommend. Only caveat, trigger needs to be replaced. Is this easy to do?

Accurate and Silent
April 26, 2009
Tried various munitions and have settled on Predator Polymag as my pigeon killer of choice. Extremely accurate with said ammo. I have to dig the pellets out of the backstop to prove that yes, they all did go in the same hole. I didn't hit once and miss 4 other times like my friends claimed. CRT3 trigger and a much better optic system is the only changes I have made to this weapon.

This is a fantastic gun. Great for people limited by space and neighboors. Good for suburbs and remote areas alike. VERY quite, accurate, good for teenagers and adults. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. If your not sure, let me tell you BUY IT. you will not regret it for a second. If your not looking to kill animals, this is a GREAT plinking/target shooting gun. great value for the money as well. my ONLY problem with it is the trigger. but don't fret. just spend a bit more and buy a nicer trigger. Enjoy!

February 4, 2009
Liked overall appearance and quality of the rifle. Horrible trigger must be changed to CDT and then you can get down to some serious work. My rifle is ammo sensitive so you will probably need to try various pellets. Mine is very accurate with heavier pellets and less so as pellets get lighter. Scope is very good and performs as expected. Be sure to lock it down to lower rail. Silencer is quieter, but not quiet. All in all an excellent value! 5 squirrels and 1 crow the first week.

I'm extremely pleased with my .22 cal Gamo Whisper. Got this baby for pest control (damn birds!) and got rid of them thanks to this rifle. Very accurate (excellent grouping all the time), extremely powerful (awesome knock-down power!), and pretty quite. My neighbors are still wondering what happened to the birds... I told them is the climate change. :) I don't know why people are complaining about its trigger; it's alright as it is. Trust me, this is a good investment. Get some RSW Superdome pellets with this puppy too!!

Having had the Whisper .22 for some months I can give it a big two thumbs up. After installing the scope I put the third pellet thru the second pellet`s hole at60 ft. I can always get a 1" group at 60'. I did replace the original trigger with a smoother CDT replacement which I highly recommend. That said the squirrels in my back yard hav`nt a chance, it puts them down right NOW. After testing many different brands of pellets I am convinced that the Beeman Kodiak Heavy is the most accurate of the lot......... not to mention the most carrying power. It`s subsonic so it`s ultra quiet. The range and accuracy improvement over other pellets is astonishing. This is a great gun for the money.........it`s a no-brainer.

Whisper
November 25, 2008
The whisper is a great rifle. Accuracy with the fiber optic sights is very good. My Crosman Pumpmaster (625FPS) would barely imbed in a 1/2 inch piece of wood at 30 feet, the Whisper goes right through it. As a former Drill Instructor I can say the Scope isn,t very good. I spent two afternoons zeroing it and then the 3rd afternoon it was back to 2 inches off to the right. I wish the M-16 had this fiber optic sight because I,d qualify expert every time. Its also Very Stelth looking. With pointed Crosman ammo my neighbor said she couldn,t even hear it. The one shot I shot with the PBA made a slight Crack so I,ll wait till I,m out in the woods about 100 yards before I use it and there should be no problem. Airgundepot had great service and you can,t beat the price. The nearest compertitor was about $30 higher and most were $50-$75 higher.

I wanted to get a new Air Rifle and the reviews and the quietness advertisement guided me towards the Gamo Whisper. It came doudle boxed and when I opened the box and first saw the rifle I was extremely pleased. It looks like some high tech sniper rifle.I mounted the scope and took it to the local indoor shooting range and sighted it in.Shoots great with really tight groups. It is very quiet except for the spring piston snap. The PBA rounds really hit the target hard and really notiveable over the lead pellets.I had read some folks do not like the trigger, it seemed OK to me.I ordered a GRT3 trigger same time i ordered the rifle but it was not really needed in my opinion.Buy it.Yeah baby!

October 22, 2008
This is a great gun and it is very quiet. But you dont notice how quite it actually is when youre shooting it. I mounted a centerpoint 6-25x50mm scope on it and is very accurate. I also put a bipod on it so i could shoot rabbits with out them seeing me. The fiber sites are nice but I perfer using a scope. Kill range is about 100 yards. hit or miss beyond that. I did notice the trigger is a bit short and harder to pull. But it didnt bother me too much. The shipping was on time and airgundepot sent me the trracking information the next day. I also got a cleaning set. Very useful, I cleaned my old gun and found a bunch of lead in the barrel.

I recently ordered a Gamo Whisper pellet rifle from you, and I was very impressed with your follow up emails on receipt of order, shipping instructions and tracking number, etc. Very proffessional. I received my order exactly when it was stated and I was very impressed with the rifle. I am an avid big game hunter so am very familiar with rifle and scope mountings, etc. It took me about 20 minutes to mount the scope and then I set up a bench to sight in and that only took about 10 minutes. The rifle is outstanding and so is your service. Thank you so much! John Stone III

Great power needs accuracy
July 5, 2008
This Rifle has decent kill range aprox 85-90 yards past that it's hit or miss as to wether it will penetrate with pointed pellets. I have made a kill shot at 100 yards but it was a lucky hit i think as the grouping expands to aprox. 5 inches...this is from a bench mind you. The weapons effictive range is 0-60 yards within that range it consistantly returns 2 1/2 to 3 inch groups all day from a benchrest. the pointed .177 pellet has a very high velocity at thoes ranges and takes out almost everything. It is quieter than my pump action corsman which only shoots 650 fps but when using the Gamo "gold" ammo it can at times break the sound barrier and there is a small but distinct crack. The stock scope is ok not great but not bad either the stock fiber optic sights are great i've gotten better groupings with them at 25 yards than the scope (only marginally) overall this a is a great rifle but not perfect i wish it had better effictive range and slightly better accuracy than again thats what 4 years in the military will give you.

Super air rifle! Retired my cheap Winchester. PROS: Well... QUIET! (without PBAs) Light, comfortable, good trigger pull, accurate, easy cocking, good quality scope and more than adequate for an air rifle, very good fit and finish, well balanced and the suppressor REALLY works from the side and down range. I put multiple PBAs through 3/4" plywood ... that's right ... through! They did go super sonic though. CONS: um...eh...aaaa... I KNOW... IT'S JUST TO FUN TO SHOOT!

May 4, 2008
I took my whisper air rifle muskrat hunting. i got 4 of them today. the PBA raptors pretty much make the noise suppressor a moot point and the scope is poorly designed because the recoil of the gun throws the scope off the back of the gun into your face. I tore the scope off finally to take a swimming musk rat since the scope was of no assistance. mut the gun has great power and is deadly accurate and looks great.

i'm a big fan of this gun
May 1, 2008
I just got my whisper today. I put the scope on it and took some time dialing it in. Once that was done it was just plain deadly. It looks very intimidating with the noise supressor and scope and it packs one hell of a mean sting with PBA shots in it although I have to admit the PBA pellets do take away some of the noise supression when they create the expected shock wave in our thick michigan air. I don't mind though after I witnessed the devistation the .177 PBA round wrought on a toy pt cruiser I used for target practice. It punched holes clean through the die cast toy and kept going through the target, through the primary bachstop and finally came to rest deep inside a box full of old clothes I put behind that. I have no doubts in my mind that this gun is NOT a toy, is as accurate as my m-16 I used in the army if not more accurate, and could no doubt take out a 250 pound boar as I saw on a you tube video shown here with the varmint hunter which is basically the same gun without a silencer and a scope upgrade to a tactical scope. If I could get the varmint hunter's tactical scope with laser and flashlight this would be a wonderfully illicit gun for any game poacher with noise supression, laser and flashlight with PBA shot! My professional evaluation of this gun is 5 stars and 2 thumbs up. if you got the varmint hunter scope I believe it would be over the top. I tried the fiber optic scope on the gun too and found it very reliable, very easy to see and sight and once dialed it using the profesional grade windage and elevation dials it's just as deadly without the scope and I believe twice as accurate. I've never been a scope hunter so the scope is new stuff to me. I like it. Keep it up Gamo, these are excellent guns!

Great gun, scope needs work
March 14, 2008
The gun I really do like. The down-sides: It is plastic. It feels great once you ignore the plastic, however. The trigger is a bit too short - but I'll have it tuned, and put in a new trigger to solve that. A bit too much spring "twang." And finally the scope mount. The scope itself is OK. The mount needed to be shimmed or there was no way to zero the thing. I used up all the play in the trim pots and was still 3" off at just five yards. Shimmed the rear of the scope, and then could finally dial it in. Pros: Astonishingly accurate and powerful. The alloy pellets will produce a sonic clap. The lead makes the gun quiet. I just can't believe how I can keep putting pellets on top of each other at the target. I have to keep walking up to the target to make sure I actually shot something! Light weight and easy to cock. Relatively quiet. All around it is a great gun that I would recommend at this level.

Gun has awesome power if thats what you are looking for. Dropped a groundhog that has been tormenting my wifes garden from about 20 paces. I head shot and he was done. Scope however was terrible. I zeroed this scope about 15 times before taking it off and using the iron sights. I would get it shooting 1 inch patterns at 25 paces. The very next day it was off by as much as 3 inches in a group. I use a case and it does not roll around in the back of my truck and such. Good gun but next time I will probably wait and save a little more and buy a Beeman.

I just bought this for my son for Christmas. As we live in an urban neighborhood (and a liberal one at that), noise was a concern. In fact, it's the main reason I picked the Gamo rather than something else. Seems pretty quiet to me, and so far (about two hundred rounds) no complaints from the neighbors either. Also, no complaints from the Boy. In fact, he's ecstatic.

I have owned several air rifles/pistols in my time. CO2 as well as pumps, however this was my first break-barrel air rifle with substantial power (over 750fps) Out of the box this gun is amazing. Sleek looks and solid construction. The feel of the gun is great as well. After one shot, you can understand what separates a good quality air rifle from a 60.00 special at wal-mart. Intense speed and precision accuracy make this by far the best air rifle I have ever invested into. Highly Recommended!

Best of the best here people. This rifle has amazing accuracy. I killed a crow sitting on a power line form exactly 105 yards and 3 inches. Some people say this gun isnt queit at all well there stupid. This thing doesnt seem quiet to the shooter because your right next to the gun but when you get a few feet away you can barely hear it. This gun also has good power with pba ammo. With pba ammo its shoots 1200 fps and with lead pellets it shoots 1,000 still good. To get a feal for this gun let me say this. This gun shoots the same speed as a cival war musket rifle. 1,000 fps! It shoots faster than a musket with pba. Amagin the power of this future weapon. The looks are also great for a pellet gun and the silencer makes it look even cooler. If you want to be a real sniper and want to kill anything within range i would recomend this beast of a gun. GO GAMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Fine Air Rifle
November 19, 2007
This is my first air rifle, and I am very pleased with the purchase. I was looking for a straight shooting rifle for target shooting, and have found it to be just that. The noise reducer on this rifle seems to work well, but as I haven't owned any other rifle, I can't give a real comparison. I have been able to fire it in the attic of my boarding house without disturbing the residents, so it does have a quiet action. Included scope is decent, but the reticles are too thin, making precise aiming with it a bit hard. The iron sights on this rifle are neon green and red fiber optics that light up brilliantly. A set of high-rise sights allow you to use the scope and these excellent iron sights. I also recommend a cheek pad of some nature, as the molded one on the stock is not tall enough to effectively aim with the scope. All told, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others.

How does this "silencer" compare with the nitro piston rifles which are supposed to be up to 70% quieter than regular air rifles? I am interested in .177 but compare the .22's also (in case I opt for that instead), which already have a reduced velocity versus the .177. Thanks.
By Brodie from Atlanta, GA on February 10, 2012

Answer:
The silencer does a good job of silencing the gun. However since the gun shoots around the speed of sound it does break the sound barrier with certain types of ammo and that really can not be silenced. When the gun is shooting sub-sonic the silencer does help reduce the noise. I do not own a nitro piston gun so I don't know how it compares to those. I have had the gun for a month now and I love it
By Conor from Sunnyside, WA on February 13, 2012

Answer:
Nitro piston air is probably a bit quieter, but this is nearly the same....
By Joshua from Pittsfield, MA on February 13, 2012

Answer:
I love my gamo whisper it is a nice quiet air rifle. Granted if your the one shooting it you can't really tell how quiet it is because that's how the silencer works is in throwing the air back at the shooter. If you are in front of the rifle or beside it when its shot it is nice and quiet though. As far as the nitro pistons though they happen to be even more quiet one because of the silencer which like I say I feel is quite nice but also in the fact that you don't have that stiff metal spring releasing and making all that noise. I myself tried a nitro piston gun and hooked just because it will last longer than a spring gun because you don't have to worry about the spring wearing out and thus making your gun lose velocity with time. so it breaks down to nitro piston guns are quiet and less maintenance and a longer overall lifespan.

If I live on a 1/2" acre piece of property, and I already own a .22 rifle, will the "noise reduction" on this one allow me to shoot from my deck without raising suspicion that it is anything more than a pellet gun?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
By Conor from Sunnyside, Washington on August 17, 2012

Answer:
This is quiet, but this is "just a pellet gun"! :) It is definitely much more quiet than a .22 cal, but the loudest sound you will hear is the pellet hitting the target.

By RG from Birmingham, Al on July 25, 2012
I bought this rifle last week. The first shot from the gun had the noise I expected, a little loud towards me the shooter. That was with standard ammo. The second shot, and every one since has just sounded like a spring twang. Even with PBA ammo, same noise, a spring twang. No loud noise, or apparent sound barrier noise. This would seem ok, if I were concerned with the actual noise. But, the accuracy seems off from all the reviews I read. I cannot get an accurate grouping at even a close distance. I am wondering if there could have been a malfunction with the gun? The lack of a louder noice, especially with PBA, and inability to get a tight grouping seems to tell me there is something wrong. Should I ship this go Gamo for repair, etc., or is it just me expecting too much from this rifle?
By Conor from Sunnyside, Washington on August 17, 2012

Answer:
If you were getting 2" groupings at 10 yds, then yes, the gun is malfunctioning. 1" groups at 20yds is a fair group I'd think though.

Is a 1.77 cal. stronger than a 22 cal. ?
By Staff on May 9, 2012

.177 is usually a faster shot as far as FPS.
.22 hits hard though since it is larger. In the end, there isn't much difference.

Which rifle is more effective on small animals, Gamo whisper 1.77 cal. or 22 cal. ?

caliber doesn't end up mattering too much since .177 travels faster, but .22 are larger.
They hit about the same on small animals.
However, I would recommend .22 regardless of that fact.
