Besides magnum power, the Hatsan 85 Sniper Vortex air rifle will convince you that gas pistons are the way to go when hunting and eliminating pests. The smoother cocking and the lack of vibration usually found in metal mainsprings makes the air rifle that much more fun to shoot. With the integral silencer- you can take out prey without alarming other prey...or your neighbors. Hatsan Vortex gas piston technology is developed and manufactured by Hatsan to be specifically used in most Hatsan break barrel and under lever airguns. Vortex gas pistons utilize regular air instead of any other type of gas. Gas piston power provides a smoother and quieter shooting experience, so you can forget about the grinding noise a spring powered gun can make. Cocking a vortex gas piston is also much smoother than a spring piston. The life of your Mod 85 Sniper Vortex air rifle with cycle past your other springers, since you won't have to worry about spring fatigue or many moving parts. This rifle will provide you with quiet accuracy and all the features that come with a Hatsan air rifle.

I have a major squirrel problem.I got one of these (22 cal) and put on a Barska scope , with some $10- rings (MAKE SURE TO LAP THEM) .i now have a pretty effective squirrel gun its pretty good out to about 45 yds It does hold zero good . Its a great device for the money Ive tried traps, poison shooting these critters is the only way to get it under control .I gave it 5 stars as its dependable good value and accurate.

I dialed in the factory scope at 25 yards after only 15 rds. (Anyone bragging about a hole in a hole at 20 yards means nothing, almost any rifle can do that). Then I moved out to 45 yards, and started shooting 2" groups using Vortex Supreme domed 14.56 grains. And I'm sure it will get even better after break-in. I also have a Hatsan 125 Sniper in .177 which can shoot 3" groups at 60 yards using Kodiak tapered domed 10.65 grains. Also have a Hatsan .22 pistol with reflex red dot sight, very accurate as well.

Pros
Light, VERY accurate, great knockdown punch, the scope works fine. You can't go wrong with Hatsan products!

Cons
For you crybabies: The bi-pod is for display. The scope is fine, learn how to use it! The twang sound means nothing, man-up!

Very happy with this gun has plenty of power, the pellets shoot 10 times better if you tap them into the breach 1/8 inch. Most pellets are off size and don't fit other than that it shoots just like a .22 rifle.

I am vary pleased with this model. It is very quiet in .22. I purchased this last year to help with raccoon and possum problem. I lost track at around 50 kills since then. Its not a toy, box says lethal to 600 yards. The scope is not terrible its surprisingly clear at night but the gun deserves more magnification. Cocking effort gets lighter after around 1500 shots. Barrel break in took about 1000 shots. Very accurate after break in. At 20 yds it shoots a hole through a hole so well you will think your missing the target. I have used 6 different pellets all with the same results.

Pros
Great for target and hunting. Lighter ,quieter and as much power as my other 100 dollar more NP magnum rifle.

Cons
Bi pod is garbage. Stock feels hollow.

Got this after having some issues with my Stryker 1000x Vortex gas, All I can say is it's a performer, I've never really had a break barrel rifle before. Until I got the Hatsan's these are great rifles. Excellent power, shoots straight, less shock and vibes with the Vortex Gas and SAS system, Quattro trigger, muzzled, very nice features for the money. Put a Centerpoint 4-16x40 illuminated scope on it, zeroed it in and Wow very consistent shooting from this setup. I did take it apart and grease it up good I suggest moly paste on metal to metal parts will greatly improve the smoothness of cocking this beast. As far pellets I've tried the Crosman premier hollow points they shoot good, as do the H&N Sport target 13.6g, the Hatsan Vortex domed work well 14.66g. Grouping at 25yds was dime size. I'm sure with some more practice I'll have them hitting the same hole at 25yds.

Pros
Trigger is nice compared to what I've shot, it's powerful, quite

Cons
A little Twang after the shot.

Great Gun. Very accurate. Shoots well. All mechanics work perfectly. Comes with a nice sling and the Bipod is actually functional. Scope is junk. Will need to put on a good scope in order for it to be all it can be. Pretty heavy., tough shooting off-hand. Pretty quiet. Very satisfied with this product.

Pros
Accurate. Good quality.

Cons
Scope. Heavy.

I bought one and the synthetic stock broke by the pistol grip. I hatsan replaced it no problem. But I was wondering if this action would fit in a Wood en stock and whick one?

asked Dennis from USA

Does the gas ram make this easier to cock?

asked Dennis from USA

No. Gas rams are not easier to cock. They behave very much the same as a spring in a gun.

Mark from USA

What is the cocking force?

asked Dennis from USA

35 - 40 lbs

Mark from USA

What type of pellets have you tried? What were the muzzle velocities (FPS) for each? How accurate were the pellets used and at what distances? Do you have any other specs for them such as the FPE? I am going to use this rifle for squirrels, rabbits, possums and raccoons. Have you used it for this purpose? If so, what distances and what were your results? I would be shooting from 10 yards to 35-40 yards.

asked James

My experience has proven this weapon and one similar in 22 cal to be more than adequate for small game up to 50 yrds max.....due ti drop off and loss of velocity, 90% of all shooting regardless of what anyone thinks or say is usually within 25-30 yds max. It is illusion we think as hunters that most shots are long range. Most of my kill shots were closer than 25 yds. One shot...one kill nearly always. I have only two times that I remember needing a second round to finish a kill humanely. I advocate practice....using alloy pellets only. Lubricated high quality if you can buy them, Speed seems greater with more inertia...meaning more humane kill-shots. I used one with Berneyy---Arizona 575 FPS velocity in a 22 cal...killed many small game targets. This is 650 with 25 cal....more than adequate.

Berney

I am concerned about noise. Is there any way to rate decibel level at 50 feet or 100feet from muzzle?

asked Jay

I'd be surprised if I could barely hear it at 100 feet. I'm 66 and my hearing isn't the best, but to me its no louder than slapping the kitchen counter hard with my hand. My neighbors on either side of my 100 foot lot know I shooting my pellet gun, but that's it. I have a berm on two sides so I have a backstop. Without the backstop I probably wouldn't shoot in my tiny backyard.

What is the difference with the Vortex gas? Is it better than the other Hatsan 85? Im really new and trying to read as much as I can... Me and my son are going into this as something to do together.

asked Scott from USA

The other Hatsan 85 uses a spring piston, meaning that there is an actual spring in the receiver that launches the pellet. Vortex is just Hatsan's name for a gas piston system, which uses a cylinder of gas rather than a spring.

George

Does this Hatsan have the TO6 trigger?

asked FRAN

No, the TO6 trigger does not belong to Hatsan. That trigger is from RWS/DIANA rifles. Hatsan makes the QUATTRO trigger which is really good.

Emilio Manuel from Argentina

What kind of quality are the trigger and scope on this rifle?

asked Walton

Agree. Trigger is very good. Very little creep. Reasonable pull weight and crisp break. The scopes are not worthy of a rifle with this quality and accuracy.

Dana from USA

Great trigger, poor scope.
