Great gun for the price
December 23, 2013
This is a nice gun I was surprised with the good quality of this gun at such a low price. after about 30 shots I worked on zeroing in the scope in no time I was getting quarter size groups at 15 yards all day long only knock on this package is the scope which is blurry at best but for the price I can live with it for now. Great job Airgun Depot for on time delivery.
Pros:
Accurate gun low price not too heavy easy to shoot
Cons:
None really other than a poor quality scope

Great gun for a great price!
July 29, 2013
I simply love shooting this gun! Fun to shoot, easy to cock and $ for $ a great rifle. I have mine sighted in for 25 yards but can shoot 3/4" groups at 50. Mine is not real pellet picky and will shoot what ever pellet I load, but does best with JSB exacts or Crosman Primer. Squirrels and other pesky critters fear this rifle if they get a chance to see it before it throws something at them. Simply fun to shoot. I did polish the trigger sear and put some action magic on it. It was a whole new rifle! Groups went from out of control to 1/2" or less at 25 yrds.
Pros:
Value of $ spent vs what you get!
Cons:
Trigger sucks! Crossman can you hear me? I said your trigger SUCKS! You should look into doing something. Great value on rifles but sucky triggers! Why?

Ok I guess?
July 23, 2013
i'm a So Cal guy, so any sort of shooting is rare. The guy checking me out to pass Army Basic Training back in the late 60's had to tell me where the targets were and even then was very gracious in passing me. That being said, I found the gun heavy, loud and inconsistent. Please remember, these remarks are not for a 'shooter', but for some guy like me who has squirrels eating my beautiful avocados. After zeroing in the scope the best I could, I waited for the return of the varmint. That was two days ago and still nothing. The only conclusion is that the noise from the gun scared him away. I'm serious. This is not written to be funny. I live 10 minutes from downtown Los Angels with city homes all around me...I barely know one end of the gun from another...BUT my nemesis is gone forever...I hope. But, if he chooses to give it another try, I am now ready for him/her.
Pros:
Cheap!
Cons:
Heavy. After the 10th round, cocking it becomes a work-out. Loud...startled me on the first shot. Not for a 'city boy'.

Definitely Solid for Pest Control and Target Shooting
December 12, 2012
This was my first pellet rifle. After doing hours of research, I chose Air Gun Depot and the Vantage Break Barrel. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The rifle is very powerful against squirrels and birds. So far I've taken out about 5 or 6 squirrels that chewed a hole in my roof. One shot kills with the Crosman Destroyer pellets. The break barrel is easy to use but the user does need some strength as the tension is around 30-40lbs. I suggest using only Crosman pellets as other pellets may not fit. I was able to zero in on the scope after about 100 shots. You definitely have to take your time to be dead on. Air Gun Depot customer service is top notch.
Pros:
Cost Easy to use Terrific for small game hunting and pest control Looks like a real rifle Air Gun Depot customer service
Cons:
Have to reload after every shot but that is expected with a break barrel rifle

A real solid buy!
December 1, 2012
No problems with this weapon, it's not a toy! It's solidly built with a wood stock and shoots strong. Nearly penetrated 5/8 inch pressed wood while target shooting at 30 meters. I'm an army guy and have put a lot of rounds down range. My only problem out of the box was zeroing the scope. After reading several other reviews I purchased better quality pellets to get the job done. I bought this weapon for pest control (skunks) but they have chosen not to come around anymore. Still, it's a great weapon to shoot and would recommend it to anyone for casual shooting.
Pros:
Solid build, shoots like a real weapon. Price is reasonable for what you get. Airgun Depot sent it right away.
Cons:
Demands a particular type of ammo, cheap ammo shoots very inconsistent with this weapon.

Great product
October 14, 2012
This pellet gun is truly excellent. The power is amazing. Generally speaking it is a one shot, one kill weapon. My problem has been pesky pigeons. Due to their larger size, they are hard to bring down. However, with this gun at 15 yards it is no problem. The scope is helpful but could be improved though. Overall a great gun and I would buy it again.
Pros:
The best feature is its power. The break barrel and no need for CO2 provides excellent flexibility. The wood stock is a very nice feature as well.
Cons:
The gun is excellent but the scope lacks the ability for fine adjustments. I have it sighted in to within 1.5 inches at 15 yards but have not been able to do any better than that. The open sights are very accurate but I would prefer a better scope.

remington-vantage-air-rifle .177cal 1200 fps w/scope
July 27, 2012
This rifle is flawless. If directions are followed........ I have had no problems with the scope or mounts. In fact i got the scope zeroed with two adjustments and in two shots ! ! ! Then I had an accurate and tight pattern. I have since pegged the target that is placed in the cross hairs. It is loud and has a kick, but has since quieted down. The best bargain for the money. The 1200fps is only achieved with lead free pellets. I shot an apple core with a lead hollow point and it vaporized it ! ! !

Vantage Air Gun
June 23, 2012
I have had this gun for about a year now. It is a little heavy but you get used to it after a while. Probably the amazing wooden stock. I have used it for target practice around 30 times and have about 500+ rounds through it and still performs great. No chips in the finish. I plan to hunt grey squirrel, rabbit, and California quail with it this fall. I give the gun 5 stars but the scope is terrible. A gun like this should be sold with a much higher quality scope. Will buy a new one by this fall. I do wish the trigger guard and sights were made of metal.
Pros:
Powerful Looks great Good open sights
Cons:
Bad scope Heavy

great gun!
April 2, 2012
i own 5 air rifles and this is my second favorite after my benjamin marauder. i highly recommend putting a better scope on it or buying the gun by itself. the barrel sites are good enough, but once you have a respectable scope on it you'll fall in love. i use it for 30 yards or less and find it to be very accurate. its not the Ferrari of guns, its more like a reliable accord with leather seats.
Pros:
great feel / weight / and balance great look easy for new shooters
Cons:
a little on the loud side the trigger will not bother you or give you any trouble but people that have used a match grade trigger may be left wanting more.

Accurate
March 24, 2012
I have had this gun for about half a year and at 44 yards I am able to put the pellets on top of each other using a bench rest of sorts. The only con that I have had is the scope, It's ok but it does not have very good light transmission. Also if you don't get good results right away use different brands of pellet and types, also the barrel will take time to break in so don't be disappointed if you don't get amazing results right away.

Great Gun
December 22, 2011
It was definitly worth the money. It's a little heavy, but isnt really a problem. Yes, the first shot is loud (like a .22) but gets quieter after each shot and now mine is great. I oiled it and it definetly has some more power to it after that. I use Crosman Premier Hollow Points or Crosman Destroyers, both work well on small game (i turned a starling inside out with a Destroyer). I tried a lighter alloy pellet from Gamo and it was much less effective at a distance. slows down considerably and dosent go nearly as fast after 25 yards. The scope used to be a problem from time to time but i clapmed it down pretty tight and havent had issues sience then. Shot several squirells and other pests around then house and have had clean kills. Great gun. Great price.

December 13, 2011
Slightly heavier than I'd be used to for small game. However, without much site set up on the scope at all, my very first shot at a squirrel from a good18 yards (after one practice shot to check the scope) Got a neck to body shot on a squirrel fairly high up in the tree and took it out. Very pleased with this, and obviously has good luck. Not much I'd change, has really good power, easy brake barrel and is a great looking air-rifle, Would recommend to anyone. Thanks.
Pros:
Accuracy, Power, looks,
Cons:
nothing really, a tad heavier than I expected, but it's a built in weight like some of my real hunting rifles. This is not a toy by any means.

Inaccurate at first initial use..
December 6, 2011
Not accurate at first use. May need to thorough put it through "break in" period. Instruction states up to 200 shots to "break in" It is hard to believe all the 5 star positive reviews, which do NOT state the need for break in period. At this "break in" period, the air rifle IS INACCURATE. I will need to update when completed the 200 shots, and continue to adjust sights. Have not tried the scope yet. The air rifle seems very well made, and it packs a punch. It also seems louder than .22 ruger long rifle.

Great gun
November 25, 2011
This gun is quality made. It feels solid in your hands, not flimsy and fragile. It has plenty of bullet velocity to take down any small game, but bigger game (goats & pigs) are possible with a well placed head shot. The iron sights are deadly accurate, and the scope is equally as deadly. Great gun for little money.

Everyone is sayin "oh the scope sucks" no it doesnt. use lock tight on the screws and it wont move or just make it really tight i just started shooting it again after not using it for a (i didnt know how to adjust the trigger) i adjusted it so theres no drag until the second stage. with out the scope being sighted in it still shoots great. If you want iron sights, rip the old ones off and order some new ones. If the scope still doesnt stay good with lock tight get a rail mount.

Pretty good but.....
November 14, 2011
I got this air rifle a year ago on sale for 100$ to hunt squirrels at my house with and I've so far killed 5 squirrels 2 rabbits and many many chipmunks that got into our garden. I was impressed with the power and accuracy of this gun even though it could be a little better but I only gave i four stars because the scope that came with it wasn't good and the nice wood stock on the gun was very soft and scratched and got dented very easily, if you would like to know I replaced the scope with a simmons 22 mag. scope 3-9x32 for 50$ at dicksporting goods i would recomend this scope to anyone with this gun it is perfect.
Pros:
accurate powerful good for small game and pests
Cons:

Very impressed with the accuracy of this gun. Have not had the problems some of the reviewers had. The scope really can't move if mounted properly, have fired over 300 shots without a problem. The optics could be a little better but what can you expect for the price? The Gamo Rockets pattern best out of mine, 1/4" groups at 25 yards. Have tried 5 different types of pellets the worst was 1/2" at 25 yards. Gamo red fire were a close second, almost same point of impact.

what a great rifle!! 3/4 inch 5 shot groups at 25 yds 923.9 fps av. with 7.9gr pellets, almost 15ft-lbs some reviewers say the scopes on theirs were trash, well this one has lasted over 1000shots, hasn't drifted an inch!!! the sights worked well, so you dont need a scope, but i recommend one on any hunting air rifle because a precise shot is needed my final take: the vantage works perfect for what its intent is, a powerful rifle to make an impact on your target, but not your wallet(pun intended) this rifle will easily take care of a squirrel, rabbit, or even groundhog so if you see one, buy one, they may not stay in stock long, and they are worth the money!!!

Remington Vantage
May 31, 2010
With the high price of long gun ammo, I decided to buy an air rifle just to keep up my skills. I didn't want a toy, nor did I want to spend a small fortune, so I did some research and ended up with the Vantage. I have been very pleasantly surprised with this rifle. It is very accurate and much more powerful than I expected. I have a range in the basement where I shoot my old Crosman pellet pistol. My back stop is 1/2 particle board which is fine for the pistol. The Vantage blew through the particle board and through the wall behind it. Needless to say, I had to build a new backstop. This gun is a blast and worth every single penny it cost. I am considering buying a second one just to have one with and one without a scope. Do not let the kids play with this rifle. It is not a toy and it isn't your dad's bb gun.

8 kills (house-eating tree rats) 5 of them were 1 shot 1 kill, 1 miss. All shots from 60 to 100ft. We are able to shoot tin cans at 120 feet without missing. The Crossman Premium pellets all go right through every kill. I agree that this is really built for hunting and needs adult supervision. Hard to imagine a better gun. Maybe if it were a little lighter... but you would have to give up the great wood stock.

Wow. this gun surprised me right off the bat. Loaded and shot. the first shot sounded like a .22 shell and smoke came out of the barrel from the oil I imagine. Not so loud after a few shots. Good kick. Scope kinda stinks. Really tough getting it zeroed. The sights are pretty dead on and easy to see. Really bright. Got this on sale for $120.00 and worth every cent. I was looking at the Benjamin that shoots at up to 1,500 fps for $299.00 and decided this was a better value for the money and for how much I would be using it. Glad to hear it takes care of those pesky Tree Rats. They all hid from me today. Tomorrow morning then, heh heh heh, Good quality, nice weight, the trigger could be a little lighter as far as action goes, I'll try the adjustment for it tomorrow too. Don't want to shoot in the dark. Be safe. This is not a toy by any means.

This gun is advertised at 1200 fps with lead free pellets and I believe it! This rifle comes with very crisp and easily viewable fiber optic sights that are ideal for close to medium range shooting of small game. The scope that was included (4X32mm Centerpoint) for me was not very good and I thought had too little power for the gun, so I mounted a centerpoint 3-9x32mm instead, which was sighted in very easily. The hardwood stock on the gun is absolutely gorgeous and very smooth and durable. For me, the gun is very light, easy to maneuver and handle, and shoulders very nicely. At first, the gun is pretty loud for a springer, but it quiets down as the gun becomes more broken in with each shot. Outstanding accuracy at all distances (I had consistent dime-sized groups out to 30 yards). The trigger is two-stage adjustable for your shooting preference and it breaks very nicely. The gun has a little bit of a kick to it (as do all springers) but that should definetly NOT be a problem in the accuracy department. It is extremely powerful (I took out a coon at 30 yards easily--even though its only a .177!!!) so be extremely careful! I highly recommend this gun to any airgunner for hunting, target shooting, or good ol' fashioned plinking!!!

April 13, 2009
First thing first..... this gun is NOT a toy. I bought this thing thinking maybe I could let my son shoot it, but wow is it powerful. He has a Daisy powerline 880 and I figured I'd get something with a little more kick, and so I did. The stock is great on this thing and it is far lighter than the crossman x1000. I wasn't sure what to expect at first so the barrel seemed a bit hard to break all of the way, but pushing that kind of power I guess it would be. When I took my first shot with it my jaw hit the floor. I set up an indoor range for the 880 with 1 1/4" drywall backing. This rifle blew right thru it like it was nothing. This thing is every bit as loud as my Ruger 10/22, so don't expect a quiet shot out of it. I'd imagine you could take down a decent sized animal with a well placed shot out of this thing. While it took me by surprise, I'm not gonna lie, I LOVE IT!! Will definitely recommend to anyone that asks. Probably the best $130 I've spent in quite a while.

Have had my gun for longer now and i have realived the front sights adjusting screws fall out and you lose them in the field. The stock scratches very easily but is very fast with Crosman SSP ammo. I have clocked (ha) it at 1160 fps average with it and 970 fps with lead (usually, with hollowpoints), but is 1010 average with wadcutter ammunition. The trigger pull is very long compared to my brother's Gamo SOCOM Carbine. The interworkings overrule the outers. Good, accurate shots with it and not much recoil. See you again, Tucker

Answer:

By Brad from Maryland on March 19, 2012

Answer:
well you could always get destroyer pellets. youll turn anything smaller than a vulture into mush
By Chevota from CA on May 7, 2012

Answer:
I'd use the best hollow point for a clean kill so the little guy doesn't suffer. Either the Crosman Destroyer or Beeman Crow Mag, they're the only hollow points I know of that actually work. Other HP's don't open up, but you can tell by looking at these two how and why they do. I prefer the Crow Mag because they are far more precision and work better in more powerful guns like this, but they're also more $ so it's up to you. A pointed pellet will just make a small hole in the critter and pass right thru, it's kinda like shooting it with a dart which just leaves it to suffer until it bleeds out. A hollow point that opens like the Crow Mag is far more of a shock to it and will kill it much sooner. Anything above it's diaphragm will likely shock it unconscious instantly and it will die in seconds from the massive trauma. A good way to check how a pellet performs in your gun is to use clay or ballistic putty which leaves you the imprint of the damage to see. Make a tube of clay about 3" in diameter to simulate a squirrel's body, you'll be surprised at the damage a true HP does.

I've been looking for a quality airgun for two months. I found this Remington Vantage and the Hatsan Striker 1000s with a bipod and scope for the same price. I have done much research and I want to see what air rifle is best for me. In the answer please describe the quality of each rifle for pest control like birds, and common garden pests. Also I am getting Crosman Destroyer pellets for the best rifle. Include good things about each rifle and concerns about each rifle. So over all which rifle is better?

I've been looking for an air rifle that fits my needs for a while and I have almost came to a decision. I have found this Remington Vantage and I also found the Hatsan 1000s Striker .177cal with a bipod and scope for the same price. They both seem good for pest control and plinking. For pest control, mostly bird and squirrels up to 30 yards, and common garden pests up to 20 yards. I will be buying Cosman Destroyer pellets for the gun I get. If you have used pellets that you believe are better, please include in your answer. So in the answer please include good things and concerns about each rifle. Then in your opinion state which gun you would pick.
By Conor from Sunnyside, Washington on August 24, 2012

Answer:
I think that the Hatsan will be more accurate, and that's what I'd pick. Try H&N Barracudas or some JSB pellets. You really need to try many different pellets to determine what your gun likes best.
