The Umarex Octane has a lot of things going for it: Reaxis gas piston, SilencAIR integral noise dampener and a 3-year warranty. If you like to hunt, then the gas piston and the integral silencer will go a long way toward making your hunting trips more enjoyable and less disturbing if you're shooting it in urban or suburban areas. Plus, the reduced sound also let's you take game or eliminate pests without warning other animals in the area that you also want to dispatch. Leaving your air rifle cocked a bit longer while you wait for your prey to become available won't hurt your gun at all since it has no metal mainspring. Lastly, the 3-year warranty is 3x longer than what most other manufacturers offer. So, if you're concerned about the integrity and the life of a gas spring, know that Umarex is there to support you.

SilencAir
SilencAir Technology is a 5-chamber noise dampener that’s permanently affixed to the muzzle of an air rifle and is intended to reduce down-range muzzle noise. One of the most common questions asked about an air rifle is, “how loud is it.” The technology behind SilencAir is an answer to that question—reducing the decibel reading of the muzzle noise generated by the exiting of a pellet from an air rifle.

Reaxis Gas Piston
Many of today’s modern single-strong pellet rifles use a sturdy spring that’s compressed when the barrel is broken over and released when the trigger is squeezed. Umarex’s new rifle houses what’s called a ReAxis Gas Piston. Think of a gas strut or something that looks similar to the shock on a car. When the barrel is broken over, the gas piston is compressed and locked in place. When the trigger is depressed the piston rushes forward shoving the air that occupies the receiver through the breech hole, behind the pellet, and down the barrel.

Terrible scope. Only accurate with gamo red pellets
May 8, 2015
The power is there, but power without accuracy defeats the purpose. Umarex made a big mistake with there choice of scope for the bundle. However. After trying numerous grains and brands of pellets and a new scope it's dead on. I'm grouping 1/4 inch @ 30 yards with gamo red fire pellets. Any other pellet, forget it.
Pros:
Powerful and accurate with the rite set up.
Cons:
Not balanced, heavy . Terrible scope included. Umarex should be ashamed. If they offered a better scope with the bundle the money would be pouring in.

Got it Today- I'm blown away!
February 12, 2015
I've had several air rifles in the past 20 years, RWS Diana, Beemans, Daisy, etc., but this one is sweet! Workmanship is excellent, and nitro is the way to go! and its powerful at the business end but shoots relatively quite. the scope is clear. and the service from Airgun Depot is a class act! everything was smooth as butter. and the gun arrived quick, even though I ordered it on the weekend.
Pros:
Well made and accurate!
Cons:
none!

High Octane
January 7, 2015
Very nicely engineered. Like the thumb hole in stock and the gas piston is much better than my springer rifles. Removed scope and installed Hawke 4-12 x 50 AO IR. Nothing wrong with Umarex scope just enjoy the Hawke more. Shoots sweet and has now become favorite in collection.
Pros:
Gas piston.
Cons:
None.

Umarex Octane .177
November 5, 2014
It has been the best, most practical air rifle I have. I like the high velocity and accuracy. I find that Crow Magnum, (H&N) and heavier pellets are as quiet as I could hope for with the Octane
Pros:
As a nitro-piston airgun it has many advantages
Cons:
I haven't noticed any

Love It!
August 27, 2014
This is my 4th air rifle in a week. I returned the other 3 as I was not happy with them. The gas piston is awesome it is quiet and smooth. So far It is dead on at 20yrds not getting consistent groups at 40yds yet but I will have to experiment with other pellets I expect to have this rifle punching bullseyes at 50yds. The rifle takes a lot of energy to cock but that isn't a problem also it is quite heavy but since I will mainly target shoot with it that is of no concern.
Pros:
Excellent scope and mounts for an airgun. The stock is great..177 cal.
Cons:
No place to attach sling.

great gun
February 16, 2014
I'm still sighting it in, but right now I'm hitting bottle tops from about 25-30 yards. I'm using Gamo hunter lead pellets, not to loud, but the Raptor power pellets are significantly louder! both are to loud for my suburban neighborhood. the only way I can shoot without disturbing my next door neighbor is by shooting across my bedroom through my doorway and across the yard. I've placed a sheet of two inch thick insulation foam in the doorway and cut out a 3.5" - 4" hole I shoot through. It works well.
Pros:
seems well made for being made in China. smooth break barrel action. the weight helps with the kick. I also like the scope that came with it.
Cons:
nothing so far other.

Hits the Nail on the Head!!
February 15, 2014
I bought this gun for a good price here at Airgun Depot and it is some kind of accurate. I can hit a 16 penny nail head at 25 yds and a 2 in circle at 50 yds every shot no problem. This gun is very balanced and it is very quite for the velocity that it is shooting. The scope is extremely clear and crisp with very fine tune adjustments. The trigger was terrible when I got it but I found a little screw that need to be tighten and now it is just perfect. Airgun Depot has terrific service and wonderful products. If you want to buy an air-gun for cheap and something worth paying for buy it here at Airgun Depot. Thanks a lot Airgun Depot!!!!!
Pros:
Incredible Scope Very Balanced Quite Shooting Nice Trigger Adjustments
Cons:
Not one thing is wrong with this great airgun.

Just as advertised.
November 13, 2013
If you are looking for some backyard target fun or even small game hunting, the Umarex Octane .177 is the ticket. Out of the box as well as 500 pellets later, the power and accuracy is consistent. We are talking groups within 1" at 30 yards with Crosman Destroyer pellets. The noise level with standard pellets is certainly tolerable for In-town back yard use. However, using the high velocity alloy pellets where super sonic FPS levels are obtained, breaking the proverbial sound barrier may be too loud for most inner City back yards. Overall satisfaction Is such that I have already recommended this very rifle to my brother and many friends.

Wow, Don't Forget the Ear Protection
November 12, 2013
This rifle delivers a fast and accurate shot. The trigger has a light pull. The rifle sites well. The pellet velocity is very high, and went through my targets and backstop like a bullet. I had not used a gas-piston before and was surprised at the noise at firing and the smell after the first shot. It felt and sounded like I had fired off a shell. My ears rang for about 5 minutes. Don't forget the hearing protection. Oh yes, and read the instructions.

Excellent Air Rifle
October 19, 2013
Purchased the rifle, received excellent service from Airgun Depot. The gun shoots with plenty of power and is very accurate. I bought it in 22 cal and find it will do the job on small game, I feel the rifle is mainly suited for hunting, due to the fact that it is quiet, and that it is very hard to pump. You would not want to pump this one just for plinking.
Pros:
Plenty of power. Quiet and very accurate. Inexpensive. Pellets are relatively cheap. Well made and very sturdy. Made in Japan.
Cons:
Would like a softer butt plate, not for recoil but when cocking. Takes a lot of power to cock.
