The Umarex Octane has a lot of things going for it: Reaxis gas piston, SilencAIR integral noise dampener and a 3-year warranty. If you like to hunt, then the gas piston and the integral silencer will go a long way toward making your hunting trips more enjoyable and less disturbing if you're shooting it in urban or suburban areas. Plus, the reduced sound also let's you take game or eliminate pests without warning other animals in the area that you also want to dispatch. Leaving your air rifle cocked a bit longer while you wait for your prey to become available won't hurt your gun at all since it has no metal mainspring. Lastly, the 3-year warranty is 3x longer than what most other manufacturers offer. So, if you're concerned about the integrity and the life of a gas spring, know that Umarex is there to support you.

SilencAir
SilencAir Technology is a 5-chamber noise dampener that’s permanently affixed to the muzzle of an air rifle and is intended to reduce down-range muzzle noise. One of the most common questions asked about an air rifle is, “how loud is it.” The technology behind SilencAir is an answer to that question—reducing the decibel reading of the muzzle noise generated by the exiting of a pellet from an air rifle.

Reaxis Gas Piston
Many of today’s modern single-strong pellet rifles use a sturdy spring that’s compressed when the barrel is broken over and released when the trigger is squeezed. Umarex’s new rifle houses what’s called a ReAxis Gas Piston. Think of a gas strut or something that looks similar to the shock on a car. When the barrel is broken over, the gas piston is compressed and locked in place. When the trigger is depressed the piston rushes forward shoving the air that occupies the receiver through the breech hole, behind the pellet, and down the barrel.

Amazing Accuracy & Power
November 22, 2014
Mine was just delivered yesterday. I researched online and decided on the Octane .22 after considering a dozen others in the 'Under $500' price range. I could not be more satisfied with my decision. You can feel the quality as soon as you take it out of the box. Within 15 minutes, after cleaning the barrel and attaching the scope, I was ready to zero. After five shots I as getting dime sized groups at 25 yds. I moved the target out to 50 yds and it was just as accurate. I then decided to try 100 yds. I was drinking a Pepsi and put the can at waist level deciding to see if I could get center of the 'P' in Pepsi. I hit dead center first shot. I am amazed with the accuracy and down range power of this rifle. The scope was far better than I was expecting after reading other reviews. Has stayed on target through over 100 rounds. Highly recommend the Octane to anybody reading this.
Pros:
Powerful Accurate Easy to load Perfect weight balance

Nice Gun
November 17, 2014
It took a little bit, but I got the scope sighted in. I have a 1.5 inch grouping at 30 yards. I am using JSB Diabolo Jumbo Heavy. I also tried the Crow Magnum with mixed results. So far dove, three ground squires and am looking for some turkey. I like my gun.

Umarex Octane .22
November 17, 2014
I purchased this air rifle due to a wrist injury . I still wanted to shoot at the rifle range near my house but the injury made recoil from a centerfire rifle nearly unbearable. When I opened the package I was very pleased with the overall quality of the rifle. I read a lot of reviews prior to purchase so I was prepared for the weight of this rifle. I cleaned it and took it to the range for a break in session. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. Cocking the rifle was easier than I expected and the sights only took a small adjustment to dial them in. I have not mounted the scope and the open sights were easy to see even on a very sunny day. The rifle got a lot of attention from other shooters on the line and I had a group of interested people around my shooting bench. The rifle was more powerful than I had expected and this rifle will double as a small game rifle in addition to target shooting. The accuracy was only fair with the groups being about 3 inches at twenty five yards until after about 100 shots. The rifle settled in and was shooting groups of 1 inch after about 150 shots. I am looking forward to scoping the rifle and experimenting with different brand and weights of projectiles to determine the rifle's preferences. The rifle has exceeded my expectations.
Pros:
Quality of construction Power level Ease of use Accuracy potential
Cons:
The front sight needs some type of protection to avoid damage

Happy customer!
September 30, 2014
This is my fifth and most powerful break barrel rifle. So many things I like about this gun I don't even know where to begin. Well, let's start with the price. For this level of power accuracy and craftsmanship. You can't beat it! Before firing the first shot I disassembled the gun, cleaned it with a dry bore snake and put it back together with blue thread lock on all screws. After reading several reviews and watching several YouTube video reviews I decided RWS Superdome's where the way to go. Zeroed in the gun at 15 yards with the iron sites in 3 shots!!! After having a blast firing off the first 100 shots, I mounted the scope. It literally took me five shots to zero the scope in at 15 yards. Within 10 minutes I was plucking lizards off the fence at 20 yards! (Side note, I would not suggest that. This thing rips through 5/8 inch plywood fence like a wet paper towel)
Pros:
Price, power, accuracy, good scope.
Cons:
A tad heavy to carry for long periods without a sling. Cocking takes a lil effort and focus... Nothing major though.

wow!!! Great Powerful Machine for the price
September 15, 2014
wow!!! Great Powerful Machine for the price. I was upgrading From my .177 Gamo Bone Collector(which. I realy like) but needed more power for hunting larger game namely GroundHogs. There realy destroying the property. So i looked around and found the Umarex Octane.22.WOW what a difference in machines. This thing is accurate with the JSB Match Diabolo Exact Jumbo Heavy .22 Cal, 18.13 Grains, Domed. Within 35 yards no critters were safe, but still felt confident on shots as fars as 60 yards. The scope it comes with is not bad for stock,it give you some time to save up for a much better one without having to rush into one. The Umarex Octane is heavy compared to the Gamo, and the cocking is also much heavier, but its worth it. So far 16 Groundhogs down...they don't stand a chance...and yes it is backyard friendly, very quiet (the first shot was so loud, because of the lube inside the barrel, but once i cleaned it got quiet quickly.) ....one more. Thing ...it feels more comfortable with heavier pellets, the shots are more in control. This thing is great...don't think you could get a .22 at this price range that's this good and accurate.Great way to move up to a .22 and not be disappointed. I do recommend this air rifle.
Pros:

September 8, 2014
Besides this .22 being sold out in many places letting us know sumthin is up? So I bought it here at the best price with some 13.8 super domes. Sights and metal of this is just like my Diana 52 but in .22 not .177. I got it to get rid of my squirrel and raven problem. First day I got it I cleared through 55 gallon drum at 20yrds showing me this thing meant bizz nizz!!! To date I gave removed 3 squirrels at 50yrds and 3 ravens at 60yrds. Open sights no scope it's my preference. You absolutely can't beat this .22 for the money and I dare you to name a rifle that will as I've been collecting air guns since 1981.... Buy it and let it be your .22 basher!
Pros:
Power, accuracy and cost.
Cons:
Takes a little more effort to cockthis thing. Lol

Comparison against Hatsan 125th and Benjamin Trail NP
September 1, 2014
Comparing the Octane .22 to my other air rifles... Stock quality - equal to Beni Trail NP and better than Hatsan 125 Trigger - equal to Hatsan 125 and better than Benji trail Accuracy - MUCH BETTER THAN BOTH Supplied Scope - never used on any of these Cocking effort - more than Benji and less than Hatsan 125 (the 125 is a beast to cock) Quietness - just a little louder than the Benji and way quieter than the Hatsan 125th Velocities - see chrony test in supplied photo
Pros:
Very accurate. Don't hate the automatic safety like I thought I might- I got used to it pretty quick Smooth Cocking - fairly easy Seems well balanced and easy to handle
Cons:
The narrowness of the top of the stock makes a sore spot on my leg when break the barrel to cock it numerous times

Much more powerful than I expected
April 3, 2014
I have only ever used conventional firearms and I expected an air rifle to be maybe a powered up version of an old Daisy or Crosman BB or pellet gun and I was skeptical of the FPS advertised for this rifle as it would mean that that it matches my S&W 10/22. The skepticism was unjustified. This rifle is very near as powerful as my conventional S&W which is quite frankly shocking. It did take some time to get it zeroed in and get used to the loading/cocking mechanism but it works great, it is quiet, powerful and accurate. Overall a very positive first air rifle experience.
Pros:
Accurate Powerful Solid Relatively quiet
Cons:
Heavy

Solid, Hard hitting, accurate
March 22, 2014
Bought this gun mainly for pest control and I am not disappointed. The break in period isn't long as some others have stated. The scope is actually very nice and usable. I'm using the JSB Diablo 18.13 grain pellets and have some great accuracy. At 30 yards I got a 5 shot group that measured a bit less than half in inch.
Pros:
Very well built, quiet, powerful
Cons:
Barrel came a bit dirty

Not a toy. This rifle is a bargain for the price!
March 5, 2014
This air rifle is not a toy. The quality control from the factory is not great but if you take a half hour to Loctite the stock and barrel screws and clean out the manufacturing oil, this is a very nice rifle. Using the stock scope with JSB Diabolo Jumbo Heavy and JSB Diabolo Jumbo pellets, I'm able to get quarter size groupings at 25 yards. This rifle likes heavy pellets. On the Chrony with Crosman Premier Hollowpoint pellets, I'm getting an average of 890 fps (haven't had a chance to Chrony the JSB pellets yet). Like other reviewers have reported, they put a card on the breech seal when shipped that flattens the o-ring. Either go online or to the hardware store to get replacement O-rings. This rifle requires good Artillery hold technique to get good groupings. If your form is off a little, so your groupings will be.
Pros:
Hits hard and is accurate with heavy pellets and using good technique. Value for price is also very good. Rifle is pretty quiet and backyard friendly as long as you have good backing to stop the pellets. I'm using at least 2x4s behind my targets to ensure they don't shoot through the backing. Very sturdy stock and scope is usable out of the box even if it isn't a mil-dot scope. Pretty cool looking rifle also.
Cons:
Very heavy rifle. Weighs close to, if not more than, 10 pounds with scope mounted. Rifle has a lot of kick which will impact accuracy if technique is good. It is also much harder to cock than my Gamo Bone Collector Bone Whisper but it also hits a lot harder.

My dad Vinny bought this and made me camp on the couch to get it from FedEx. Pulled this yummy rifle out of the box and was all like "Ohhh this is cool" Cleaned up the old oil and put new oil in, Shot this thing and I was totally in loveeeeee! Great Air rifle for a mild shooter and someone interested in a good starter to mid range high speed air rifle. Accurate as all get out, like creepy accurate. Love this Rifle, I have shot a lot of guns (types and sizes, hand and long rifle alike) and I was shockingly surprised with this firearm. Picture below was from 20 yards. out of the box (after cleaning), and with the sights.
Pros:
It made my day, Looks sexy, Accurate like a genius in math class. You most likely will not regret this, Unless you are a big jerk.
Cons:
Break has heavy pull. I didn't buy two. Trigger has long pull (not heavy) just long until you find that "sweet spot"

Got off to a rocky start... But all is well now.
February 19, 2014
The packabe arrived on time and well padded bia FedEx. Upon taking the box from the driver it became clear that this was bo toy!!! I carefully unpacked and install the included scope. I then took it outside to test fire a few pellets. That is when things went a little sideways. Apparently the assembler was having some issue that caused him or her to over grease the action and cause it to discharge unexpectedly Once I blew out all the excess grease the rifle started to shoot consistent groups immediately and does send a CPUM sonic so try to stay up near the middle weight range of pellets so you drop whatever your shooting at on the first try. The folks at AGD were more than happy to offer another replacement, but since this was already the second time with a similar issue I wanted to take a little closer look without taking the gun apart and voiding the warranty
Pros:
Well balanced Extremely powerful Very accurate straight out of the box Pretty decent combo scope. Free Armor piercing pellets 3 year warranty AGD's best in the business Customer Service All bolts and screws were properly tightened and has loc-tite on it
Cons:
Better quality control inspections before shipping a batch or lot. fiber optic fibers are too weak to remain on the gun for long provision for a sling at the front pivot point for those long days in the field I would love to see a chrony slip come with every rifle that's sold in the U.S.

February 1, 2014
Big gun small price, opened the box and whaaaam there she was just eagerly waiting to be named, at first I thought the gun was bigger than what I had imagined,a lil heavy but easy to get used and then I thought wow that's one heck of a silencer ,the stock felt solid as expected with good quality the first shot sounded like a 22 rm and kicked like a 410 ,and I was like wow, I used the Gamo PBA armor alloy rounds that came with it. well couldn't couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 20 yards with iron sites,so I went to walmart got some Crosman hollows threw the scope on and have it shooting holes at 40 yrds scope windage cap had a small ding on it .the scope seems to be of decent quality the stock screws were a lil loose ,tightened them up and good too go. Also the rounds that came with it had fasting strikes on them and some were a tight fit a loose fit and nothing in between ,junk that's why they're free with the gun! good solid gun for small game and target the trigger stage 1 is almost non existent and the pull is fairly stiff but after my first twenty rounds I am use to it just like anything practice is the key! other than that It is all good!
Pros:
solid feel ,good quality ..........fun to shoot! heavy hitter very accurate!
Cons:
stiff trigger pull, lil heavy , the rounds that come with it junk

great gun out of the box accuracy
January 4, 2014
as soon as I got it couldn't wait to shoot it. shot about 50 round without cleaning the barrel and still after cleaning the barrel it shoots even better. would probably shoot better with a new breach seal, but I still hold groups at 50 yards after a couple hundred rounds and already have multiple kills 5 barn sparrow ranging from 25 to 50 yards. for sure worth it for the price I have watched a bunch of reviews and with JSB jumbo heavies it puts out about 25 fps that's great for hunting small to medium game I shoot Crosman hollows 14.33g and H&N barracuda power 21.14g and they both work great. I also put a centerpoint 6 by 16 by 40 scope on it a little more powerful scope for a powerful rifle
Cons:
a little heavy trigger pull takes a little bit to get use to and wish they would set new breach seal

Umarex Octane .22cal. - One powerful yet quiet air rifle.
January 4, 2014
This rifle overall is great for hunting or target shooting. However, this rifle does require some strength to break the barrel. Therefore, I do not think that this air rifle is good for kids or someone has limited strength.
Pros:
I like the rifle because it is fun to shoot and build up my muscle at as well.
Cons:
The plastic stock looks and feels cheap, but it is functional as a stock.

Five stars if better trigger and sling mounts.
December 30, 2013
Like the title says, this would be a five star gun, if not for the fact it has a very stiff trigger, and no sling mounts. This gun is very quiet with standard pellets. My gun is running around 860 to 880 fps with the Crosman premiers( wally world). Also a new breech seal helps a few fps. The scope seems fine, not bad for a combo deal. I have only ran a couple 100 pellets through it, so not broke in yet. The gun feels well built, shoots well, a bit heavy, but over-all I am satisfied. Hopefully the speeds settle in as it breaks in, need to try lots of brands of pellets, as each gun is different. I looked at allot of guns over before getting the Octane in 22 cal on paper and online( no airgun dealers near me for hands on). I gambled and came out a winner . I like it and I'm kinda picky.......
Pros:
Decent speed, quiet, gun looks sporty. Steel in its place and plastic in its place. Easy trigger mod( set screw point polish). Scope is usable for most. Fixed sights just in case. Not a back breaker to cock. Solid lock up at barrel.
Cons:
Stiff trigger pull. No sling mounts. No mil-dot cross-hair on scope( that's just me though). Speed rating is for people that don't have a chronograph. I have one and this gun is not going to do the posted numbers with anything I would use on a daily basis( hunt). I was hoping for 950 fps with a standard pellet, but fell short. Still faster than most in this class( price range)

Umarex Octane .22 Cal
December 5, 2013
This review is for the Umarex Octane .22 cal. I had high hopes for this gun, but had to deduct some stars for the following reasons: I wanted to break it in using the metal sights, to save the scope, but even after adjusting the rear sight up, as high as it would go, it still shot 3 inches low at 10 yards. Subtract one star. So then I mounted the scope, since I couldn't zero the fixed sights and that cheap scope didn't even make it through the break-in period. Subtract another star. After a 150 round break-in, I cleaned and oiled the gun, tightened all the screws, mounted a better scope and sighted it in. Then I got out my F-1 Chrony, to check the FPS. Umarex claims 1250 FPS with non-lead pellets. I tried the PBA non-lead at 9.8 grain and the best it would do was 1055 FPS. That's just about what Umarex claims for lead pellets. Then, I tried my lightest lead pellet, the Benjamin Discovery, at 14.3 grain. That came in at about 850 FPS. Subtract another star. I thought this gun would like heavy pellets, but out the dozen I tried, the worst groupings were with the Eunjin 28.5 grain and the JSB Jumbo Monster 25.39 grain, at 20 yards. I did however, get pretty good groupings with most of the other pellets I tried. This gun is made in China, which explains a lot. I'm surprised that the German companies are now following the rest of the world and trading quality for profits. Welcome to the new world.

Powerful, accurate and fun
November 14, 2013
I'm only a few hundred rounds through the gun at this point but I am very impressed. The scope is fine for the time being. It feels like it is made on the cheap and most likely will not last. For the price of the gun, I care very little about the scope. The Octane has great knock down power. I misfired on a squirrel and hit him in the rib cage. The pellet traveled through the ribs on the one side and through the ribs and out of the other side like nothing was there. Dropped him instantly. The first shot out of it sounded like a damn rim fire, much quieter now. Other than my preference for a wood stock as opposed to this synthetic stock, I really have no issues or complaints to speak of. Fun to shoot!
Pros:
Powerful and accurate. Cool pistol grip style stock that is very comfortable.
Cons:
As a personal preference, I would like to have a wood stock over the synthetic.

November 8, 2013
First this gun is one hard hitter! It ripped through a lot of stuff. I mounted the scope it was very accurate, I stacked 10 into 1 hole at about 10 feet in my garage. Then while setting up outside to zero it at some distance, I dropped the gun and hit the optic hard and now, well I can't get it to zero correctly, my bad, soo I will get a better scope later. This has forced me to get much better with the iron sights which is good and they are fine. Overall this gun is kinda heavy but solid well balanced, more accurate than I can shoot it. Yeah it needs trigger work but I am used to it now.
Pros:
Hard hitter, well balanced, accurate

Like this air rifle
October 30, 2013
The wife gave me grief for spending $200 plus dollars for a BB Gun. Well we live on a very rural farm in N. Arkansas and one early evening just before dark she came to me about an armadillo that was in her garden. So I went to get the .22 rifle but instead picked up the Umarex instead loading it with an H&N .22 cal. 21.14 gr. Barracuda power pellet. She made a comment about the BB Gun again. At a distance of about 30 feet the pellet passed completely through a medium sized armadillo killing him where he was at. Have not heard anything else about a BB Gun. The rifle is very accurate right out of the box, however I have issue with the less than satisfactory scope included. I have since replaced it with an RWS model.
Pros:
Powerful accurate rifle.
Cons:
Scope quality not up to par with rifle quality. Umarex needs to take a serious look at this

Umarex Octane .22 cal.
October 11, 2013
This is my first gas piston air gun and first experience with a .22 cal. air rifle. I am very pleased with the overall look feel and quality of the Octane. When I got the Octane I was looking for an air rifle for hunting small game. I thank that I made a very wise choice. The scope that comes with it seems to be up to the job. I also like the open sights that come on it. They are very good and should work well out to 30 or 40 yards. I set the scope with JSB Exact Jumbo Diabolo 15.89 gr. They hit very hard and group well. Just playing around and still getting used to it I was able to get 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards. Also the Predator Polymag shoot just as well. I think that I should be able to take small game with no problem. The power of the Octane seems to be that of a subsonic .22 cal. long rifle. I have not shot any pellets through the chronograph yet but I will be doing it soon. It is also quiet so if you are going to shoot it in an urban area you will be ok just make sure that you have a very good backstop because it has very good penetration. It was able to shoot through a gal. milk jug full of water with the JSB's from 20 yards and it kept going. I also shot through a 3/4 inch piece plywood with the Predator Ploymags. Do not waste your time with the non lead stuff. They did not seem to do very good in it. The H&N Baracuda copper plated 21.14 gr and the Gamo Rocket also did well and had very good penetration. I must say that this is not an air rifle for kids because of it's power, weight, size, and that cocking effort needed. I will be making another review when I have some more data as far as penetration tests and velocity.
Pros:
Very powerful, accurate, good looks, and good build quality all from a very reasonable price.
Cons:
I have found none at this time.

.22cal Umarex Octane, great gun for the money
October 7, 2013
I received my airgun on the exact day that it was supposed to be at my house. Shipping was perfect and FEDEX updated me the whole time. I ordered the .22 caliber Umarex Octane. The first thing I did when I got the box open was read the manuals on what not to do. I%u2019m a 20 year Army guy and I figured it was best to read the %u201Cdash-10%u201D. There wasn%u2019t much in there unless you%u2019re a beginner. I started by using a bore brush and some rifle bore cleaner. Breaking the barrel for the first time was a serious pain. I%u2019m a big guy and I thought I was going to have to call a buddy over. One thing the manual doesn%u2019t tell you is that can%u2019t use a bore pusher and a patch. The patch will get stuck in the baffles of the suppressor. I then proceed to remove and degrease all of the bolts one at a time. I put on some blue thread locker and put them back in. Of all of the bolts and screws only 2 had thread locker on them. After about 50 rounds my shot group started to jump all over the place. The barrel locking screw came apart. I took everything apart and redid the thread locker. It would seem that I missed a bolt. This is when I noticed that front fiber optic had come out. I don%u2019t plan on taking my scope off and using the iron sights so it%u2019s not an issue for me. The pellets are Daisey premium hollowpoint. Before having to redo the barrel lock I was able to get 5 shots inside of a penny at 15 yards. Once I get the gun broke in some more I%u2019ll zero at 30 yards and see what the drop compared to 15 yards. Everyone says the trigger is adjustable, mine doesn%u2019t seem to be same. There%u2019s a flat plate holding the trigger in on mine and no cross tip screw to adjust. The trigger is stiff. I%u2019m hoping it breaks in over the next couple of hundred rounds. Lastly the Umarex Octane .22 caliber weighs about 9 pounds with the scope mounted. The listed weight here is 5.22 pounds. For my target stop I%u2019ve got 1/2in plywood with old phone books screwed on to it. The pellets I%u2019m using will bust through the following: Metal trash can, both sides 1in into a 2x4 in plywood Crosman Premier .22 cal Hollow Point Pellets (14.3gr) fire nicely. I haven't crono'd it but Cristian said his was 849.8 /- 5.9fps for Gamo Pro Hunters at 15.66gr and 717 /- 4.6fps with H&N Barracuda at 21.14gr. I'll post more as I break the gun in.
Pros:
Hard hitting, fairly quiet (compared to a Beeman .177 springer or Ruger .177 springer)
Cons:
Needs locktight from the factory, the exposed front fiber optic falls out, the gun is on par with the rest in the class it's heavy. The trigger is stiff out of the box for the first 50 rounds at least.

The first Accurate Gun from China
September 20, 2013
The first thing I did out from the box was to fill the gun in my shoulder. I say hmm.. fills good and balance. I did NOT even mount the Scope that comes with it, cause all ready other guys in their reviews say is a junk and did not wont to spend any extra time to play with it. I had a Hammers 3-9X40 Scope and mount it on. The first Pellet I try was the RWS Meisterkugeln .22 14 gr.. This one went Super Sonic and make a noise like .22 Rim Rifle. The second Pellet I try was Webley & Scott .22 14.3 gr. and that was a lot better and start find a 50 cent Coin size grouping in 65'. With out do anything to the Scope I try the JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy Diablo .22 18.13 gr. and man I was going to the right direction. Out of five shots 3 were in the Bull eye and the other two 1/4" from there!! I do not need to do more tests in this Rifle and I can say it shoots like my RWS 350 Magnum(s) accurate and as my RWS 34 (s) in this distance.
Pros:
Accuracy, Power, Feels a lot lighter then the RWS 350 Magnum, Likes heavy Pellets so more knock down power
Cons:
Scope. The Trigger a bit heavy. If the trigger was a bit batter will be a ***** Rifle.

Very, Very Accurate, very heavy trigger.
September 16, 2013
This is a highly accurate rifle when shot with the proper tehnique and pellet, capable of putting 5 shots in the same hole at 20 yds. Very quiet, ideal to shoot in neighbour surrounded reas (if safe, of course). Though heavy because of the power, a pleasure to cock, and a very smooth and steady barrel lock. I had to disassembly and polish the trigger because it was extremely heavy. After a simple work it is now fine. Do not have the actual trigger weight figures before and after but shooting effort definetly improved a lot. Good scope to mate the rifle, for the price. Still standing though still too few shots to tell.
Pros:
Powerful, very accurate, quiet, nice cocking effort.
Cons:
Very heavy trigger.

Accurate....quiet--if shoot heavy .177 pellets.....smooth shooting..no spring "twang"..lower recoil....
August 13, 2013
Received the Octane today.....Open sights were right on target at 18 yards. Mounted the scope and hit close to bullseye on first shot...Made slight adjustment to windage and put 3 shots in the 1/2 inch bullseye at 18 yards. Feels good when brought up to the shoulder...scope is clear and feels solid. Gun is a little heavy, but this makes it easier to keep the gun on target for follow through. With Gamo hunter pellets, the sound is about the same as my former Ruger Blackhawk springer. I suspect when I get some heavier pellets (9.7 or 10.5 gr), the sound dampener will "shine through".......Great rifle.
Pros:
Accurate, less recoil when shooting due to the gas piston (Reaxis piston) ......solid....good scope......
Cons:
VERY minor issues.....The front sight could use a hood to protect it. Also, on low magnification, the red portion of the front sight is visible (albeit blurred) in the scope......These are minor issues. If you shoot lighter pellets then Gamo Hunters or Crosman Destroyers, it will sound like a .22 short

Worthless scope
August 12, 2013
The rifle by it self is OK. In my opinion, the cost of the scope should be removed from the overall cost. It is a real piece of junk. Don't even bother to try and sight it in.
Pros:
Rifle OK
Cons:
Scope a total piece of junk!

Fun to Shoot
August 2, 2013
The Umarex Octane feels nice in my hands and is fun to shoot. It is powerful and accurate. I can consistently hit a quarter at 30 yards and it will go through a 1 inch pine board. It takes a lot to cock this gun as expected. The butt pad rubber was a bit tacky (sticky). After about 150 shots the crosshairs on the scope broke.
Pros:
Powerful and accurate. Smooth cocking. Nice feel. Good value.
Cons:
You can not use felt pellets to clean this gun because they will get stuck in the silencer. There should be an option to buy without a scope because the one it comes with is flimsy.

Powerful, accurate and great price!
July 26, 2013
The Octane holds a pattern the size of a quarter at 30 yards and was able to punch through a 2x6 one time out of multiple shots.
Pros:
Power, accuracy, and price.
Cons:
The stock butt pad should be more firm and less thick.
