Definitive Guide to Air Venturi MicroStrike
This little gem is so versatile, shoot it as a pistol or attach the six-position adjustable AR foldable stock to transform it into a compact stow-away carbine. The butt stock is equipped with a rubber butt pad for comfort as well as a QD sling mount.
The total pistol length from tip to tip is 16.5", or as a carbine from 25.5" to 29". Altogether it weighs 4.5 lbs. The description is in its name!
Advancing to the action on the right side of the pistol is the push button safety and the breach to insert one of the two included rotary magazines. (10 rounds .177, 10 rounds .22, and 8 rounds .25) You'll also see the text that gives the max fill pressure of 300 bar or 4,350 PSI. Under that text you may normally find the caliber, but this one says multi-caliber instead.
On the left side of the action is the side lever cocking handle and the name of the pcp MicroStrike pistol.
Next is the AR interchangeable pistol grip with finger grooves and a thumb rest for comfort. In front of the grip is the trigger guard and the two-stage adjustable for pull weight trigger.
In front of the action is the 80cc air cylinder with a max fill pressure of 4,351 PSI (300 BAR). There are two gauges, the front displays fill pressure, and the rear displays regulator pressure. Included is a probe with male quick disconnect to fill this pcp near the muzzle.
The ring located on the air cylinder is the external adjustment for the regulator, the MicroStrike must be degassed before making adjustments. The degassing screw is located on the left side of the air cylinder directly beside the regulator pressure gauge.
While we're talking about adjustments in a tuning sense, the hammer spring is also adjustable with the stock on or off. The tension screw is accessible by folding the stock or removing it.
Above the air cylinder is one of the most important components to any airgun, the barrel. Said barrel is rifled and has a total length of 10.65". It also allows for a moderator with its 1/2X20 threaded muzzle. Air Venturi has made the MicroStrike barrels interchangeable so you can go from a .177 to a .25 caliber within five minutes.
The MicroStrike air pistol comes equipped with a full-length Picatinny optics rail and removable front and rear sights. These sights are adjustable for windage, as well as two-position adjustable rear sights for functionality as a pistol or a carbine.
Setup & Operation
Regardless of the version you decide to utilize your MicroStrike in, always check the safety and ensure it is engaged, and keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. If you've decided to use it as a pistol with the included sights set up, it is going to be quick.
Pull the cocking lever to the rear position and then push it forward, basically cock the air pistol so the spring tension is relieved and the valve can close properly to hold air. Next, twist the dust cover to reveal the fill port. Insert the fill probe until it is seated properly, and fill the air cylinder to its max pressure of 300 bar. Then bleed the valve, remove the probe, and return the dust cover over the fill port.
This airgun is equipped with a single-shot tray or a rotary magazine. If you'd like to use the single-shot tray, follow these steps:
- Pull the cocking lever to the rear position
- Slide the tray into the breech
- Load one pellet head first onto the tray
- Return the cocking lever to the forward position
- Take aim at your target, disengage the safety, and squeeze the trigger
If you plan to utilize this in its carbine form, please review and follow the safety steps. Then mount the adjustable and foldable stock onto the Picatinny rail located on the butt of the pistol. When mounting a scope, depending upon the rings and the optic, you may need to remove the rear sights for a proper mount. Once you've attached the stock and optic, the filling process is the same.
If you'd like to repeatedly send lead down range without reloading a single pellet, that is what the magazines are for. To load the magazines, simply rotate the clear top plate clockwise and insert the pellet head first. That should lock the plate in place and allow you to rotate to the next hole to insert 8-10 pellets, depending upon the caliber.
Once you have filled the magazine, pull the cocking handle to the rear position and insert the magazine from the right side of the pcp. Push the cocking lever to the forward position, aim at your target, disengage the safety, and pull the trigger. It is a very simple process, whichever version you decide to set up.
The Air Venturi MicroStrike allows for experienced shooters to make adjustments, only if they want it. The regulator and hammer spring are externally adjustable for tuning to a specific pellet or type of shooting. Turn down the power and hammer spring tension to achieve a higher shot count or turn it up to achieve more energy! Remember to adjust the regulator; you must degas the airgun. To increase the reg pressure, while monitoring the regulator pressure gauge, turn the ring to the left. To decrease, turn the ring to the right.
Performance & Accuracy
After getting the MicroStrike pistol in .25 caliber set up in carbine form and mounting the Hawke Airmax 2-7x32, the sight-in was simple, and it was time to test the performance. From the smooth cocking handle to the comfort of the adjustable stock, in every aspect it performed well straight out of the box.
After testing three types of pellets at 25 yards, it was difficult to decide on the favorites. The JSB 25.39 Grain Exact King, the H&N Sport 20.1 Grain Field Target Trophy, and the JTS 25.4 Grain Dead Centers were neck and neck. When forced to make a choice, the JSB Exact Kings would be it, with every impact touching the other.
JTS 25.4 Grain Dead Center results at 25 yards:
- High: 715 FPS / 28.8 FPE
- Low: 708 FPS / 28.3 FPE
- Average: 712 FPS / 28.6 FPE
H&N Sport 20.1 Grain Field Target Trophy results at 25 yards:
- High: 793 FPS / 28.1 FPE
- Low: 785 FPS / 27.5 FPE
- Average: 790 FPS / 27.5 FPE
JSB 25.39 Grain Exact King results at 25 yards:
- High: 723 FPS / 29.5 FPE
- Low: 718 FPS / 29.1 FPE
- Average: 721 FPS / 29.1 FPE
Summing Up
There are so many reasons we recommend this pcp to the airgun community! This pcp has proven to be effective in energy and accuracy for anything from plinking to small game hunting. It adjusts to each shooter for comfort, shooting style, and despite the just under 11-inch barrel, the accuracy and stability are reliable at longer distances than most pcp pistols in its class.
A few accessories we recommend to accompany you on your adventures with the MicroStrike are the Air Venturi RovAir portable compressor, the Air Venturi Crazy Eights target, and some Balistol multi-purpose oil for regular maintenance.
For very little the shooter can change this air pistol from .25 caliber to .22 or .177 with a Caliber Change Kit. The same pcp offering three caliber options at this price point is unbelievable! Air Venturi has knocked it out of the park with this compact, multi-caliber, adjustable pcp pistol!
