Definitive Guide to Air Venturi OmniStorm

The Air Venturi OmniStorm break barrel has a very rare adjustability, and unlike previous models, all the equipment is included! It allows the shooter to increase or decrease the power as well as increase or decrease the cocking effort using the same tool, the OmniTuner. With the same rifle, you can decrease the power as low as 500 fps for some good old backyard plinking or increase the power up to 1,100 in .177, or 850 fps in .22 for backyard pesting or small game hunting! That's what makes the OmniStorm different. Check out our detailed review to learn all about this interesting break barrel air rifle.

Detailed Review

The OmniStorm is a single-shot, gas piston break barrel air rifle. It has a rare feature allowing the shooter to adjust the power produced with the included pump, OmniTuner. Let's talk aesthetics first!

From the recoil pad of the one-piece synthetic stock and 19-inch barrel, the total length is 46.5 inches and the total weight, without an optic, is 6.75 lbs. The included optic is a 4x32 scope with mounts, and it won't add much weight to the setup.

The two-stage trigger is housed in the trigger guard and is accompanied by the automatic blade safety to prevent accidental firing.

Utilizing the optic isn't necessary; this rifle comes with fiber optic sights and with the rear sights being adjustable. If you'd prefer to use an optic, the 11mm Dovetail rail is perfect for your optic of choice. Remember this is a break barrel so not just any scope will do, there are specific scopes for the backwards recoil these produce, like the Hawke Airmax 3-9X40.

On the right side of the air rifle just below the optic rail is the OmniPiston fill port where the OmniTuner can be attached to decrease or increase the power and the cocking effort to suit the shooter's needs.

The adjustability ranges from 205-550 PSI, producing between 500 and 1,100 FPS in .177 and 500 to 850 FPS in .22. Similar to a PCP, this break barrel can be tuned for different ammo. Slow it down for the lighter ammo and speed it up a bit for the heavier pellets.

The adjustable range of the cocking effort is from twenty to fifty pounds, making it suitable for a youngster or an airgunner who enjoys shooting endlessly and doesn't want to tire out.

Setup & Operation

To begin shooting, remove the protective cap from the OmniPiston fill port, then line the threads up on the connector of the OmniTuner pump and screw on until it stops, then back it up one to two times. Press the valve engagement lever down to engage the valve. It should now show the current pressure of the OmniPiston. If it shows zero, it is most likely empty. Pump the pump until you reach the desired pressure.

Remember, operating pressures are between 205 to 550 PSI so be sure to stay between those parameters. Once you've completed the Piston adjustment, press the engagement lever up to unlock it, unscrew the connector, and replace the protective cover.

If you decide to go with the open sights, there is no need to mount a scope, it's ready to shoot. If you decide to mount the included 4x32 optic, remove the optic from the packaging, mount it on the 11mm dovetail rail, and tighten the screws.

To cock the Omnistorm, hold the forearm of the airgun firmly, place your opposite hand at the farthest place of the barrel you can reach and pull down. Next, insert the ammo into the breech, return the barrel to its original position, locking it in. Then aim at your intended target, disengage the blade safety, and squeeze the trigger. Rinse and repeat!

Performance & Accuracy

Using three types of pellets, the H&N Baracuda FT 9.57 grain domed pellets, JTS Dead Center 10.4 grain domed pellets, the JSB Exact 8.44 grain domed pellets, and the included optic, the testing began. The pellets used varied in weight as well as manufacturer.

The largest group produced was about one and a half inches and the smallest was less than an inch. The .177 caliber Air Venturi OmniStorm with the OmniPiston set at 450 PSI, seemed to like the heavier pellets, like the JTS Dead Center 10.4 grains.

The cocking effort is most likely a bit much for a youngster at that pressure but suitable for a hunter. Below are the results for the velocity and foot pounds of energy produced with the setting mentioned above.

JSB Exact 8.44 Grain Pellets results at 15 yards:

  • High: 930 FPS / 16.1 FPE
  • Low: 915 FPS / 15.6 FPE
  • Average: 920 FPS / 15.9 FPE

H&N Sport Baracuda FT 9.57 Grain Pellets results at 15 yards:

  • High: 832 FPS / 14.7 FPE
  • Low: 828 FPS / 14.6 FPE
  • Average: 829 FPS / 14.6 FPE

JTS Dead Center 10.4 Grain Pellets results at 15 yards:

  • High: 806 FPS / 15 FPE
  • Low: 789 FPS / 14.4 FPE
  • Average: 798 FPS / 14.7 FPE

Summing Up

The Air Venturi OmniStorm caters to an airgunner who wants one platform but multiple uses. Maybe you're introducing a youngster to the plinking world. By simply attaching the OmniTuner to the fill port and pressing the bleed valve, you can decrease the PSI of the OmniPiston which will decrease the power and the cocking effort.

After they finish their shooting session, attach the OmniTuner again and pump it to the max of 550 PSI for some high-power pesting, hunting, or just some hard-hitting target shots!

This platform is available in multiple calibers suitable for plinking, pesting or small game hunting. For those of you who love having the option of open sights, whether that be your first preference or find comfort in having those as a backup, the option is there!

One break barrel with multiple applications and piston settings, it's unheard of! Here are a few things you may find go well with the OmniStorm air rifle:
