Browning Gold 177 review
December 20, 2014
Almost 50 years of shooting and honing my skills has maybe made me to harsh of a critic, although the quality was there as well as a great fit and finish we all expect from a Browning the accuracy was very disappointing. In the guns defense I shoot some very expensive match guns w powder charge and am not much of an air gun expert, I do own a Russian Made IZH46M air pistol that is astonishing at 30' that gun will put 4 out of 5 shots in s circle the size of a dime, this browning had a group the size of a softball at 35 feet, to me that is NOT acceptable from any rifle. I tried steel sights, different scopes and different pellets. I bought this gun because of the Browning logo after shooting it I would bet a months pay browning didn't make this gun and they should not have pimped out there great name to sell some air guns.
fit and finish was excellent, quality is obvious, the gun is very stout meaning it sure looks and feels like it will last a long time based on how beefy everything is.
not accurate, shoots like a smooth bore, takes a LOT to cock this gun and it is loud for an air gun, again I am no air gun expert but was shocked how loud it was, shooting it in the backyard of suburbia will most likely draw some attention.

It's a Beauty

I have the wood stock .177 Gold. I bought this gun as no one (No one!) had the gun I had been waiting to buy. I wanted the wood stock as it was the best looking gun this side of $500. There is nothing else like it, very unique and still a blast to look upon. I wanted in .22 cal to keep the speed in the 800s as I hear the gun is a by "jumpy". So I stuck with a .177 cal unless I want to change the barrel. (maybe) I saw no sample defects with my unit. Quality control seems acceptable. Because the gun is mostly a show piece, it is not a "go to" gun. I am keeping the sight off of it. I have slung a few pellets through it. My first impressions are that the gun does have a kick to it. I was shooting at 10yds and the accuracy is fine. I suppose it was not amazing, but I did nothing to improve my hold or change pellets, etc. The second big thing was that there is a good distance between the pistol grip and the trigger. You have to have a big hand to make it work well. My hand is a pretty average man's hand and I'm just in the range of the trigger distance. I do not like it. It feels too far away for good control of my finger. The trigger itself feels crisp, light and clean. The iron sights are pretty much as I desire. (I did not make any adjustments to sight)
1. Easily and most importantly, the wood stock looks. 2. I got the last one (ok one of the last)! Interestingly, I like the look and reviews of the Old Benji Marauder and its gone without me getting one (I was still saving $). Also I thought I'd add the Walther Lever Action in nickel finish. That's right, it's not made anymore either unless perhaps you have $650+. (I don't) I was not ready to buy this one (or want this configuration), but I had to rush the purchase or loose this gun as well.
1. The movement after the trigger is pulled (perhaps this will change with use or pellet weight?) 2. The trigger distance. 3. She's a heavy (beautiful) beast! My recommendation is only for those who have huge muscles and huge hands
