crossman optimus .22 review
August 14, 2015
After months of use I have to say that the rifle has a good weight. It is a hard kiking rifle. Do to the hard kick i have gone thru 2 scopes. I just installed a Hawke HD 4x32 to it. I hope it holds on to the powerfull kick. The kick makes the rifle a challenge to be accurate. By accurate I mean to hit the bulls eye on targets at 75 feet away. I am hitting the bulls eye at that distance. The rifle is set within 1" kill zone. The max. range to shoot pray would be around 105 feet. Zero it at 25yrds. This rifle kills pigeons and chicken with authority. Rifle is well made. It is easy to dissasemble and clean. The trigger can be improved to be lighter in the pull. There is a fix on you tube. Adding a heavy muzzle to it would help accuracy and muzzle lift when you fire. Archer Airgun sells one for 15mm barrel diam. I recommend this rifle to anyone.
Price. Good construction. Knock down power. Easy to dissasemble.
You have to work on accuracy because of the hard kick. Needs a better scope to handle kick. Trigger a little on the hard side. Shoots 800fps. or less with lead pellets. Max. range is around 105 ft. At this distance pellet has dropped around 3/4". The rifle is not a long range shooter.

Very good beginner gun
March 22, 2014
It's a very good spring beginner gun, I like the simple design. It has a nice feel, a nice finish, very good looking. It's very powerful. However, there's no way to put a sling on it without drilling into the body. It gets very heavy carrying it. It has a nice hair trigger and safety switch as well.
Price Power Scope Finish Feel Hair trigger Safety system Easy to clean, oil, and maintain Good beginner gun
Weight Lack of ability to put a sling on Spring

great value

I have the optimus in both .177 and .22. I did a lot of reading after I got the .177 and learned about the spring piston air rifle and with that knowledge I find that the optimus is a great gun with a little discipline and use of the artillery hold. I liked it enough to get the .22 and it is great as well. the only thing I have to say "bad" about them is the trigger. but look online and there are easy fixes and there is the grt-lll.
great value, accurate, powerful
it has a crosman trigger

what a killer
May 3, 2013
I live in Puerto Rico and we are very restricted on fire arms, so a pellet gun is our only option. We have been invaded by Iguanas that grow up to ten pounds and are very destructive. I have a 3 acre garden that was being destroyed as they like new young plants. After getting my Crosman Optimus, my problem was being solved. When you hit them in the head, end of story. Body shots are also effective as the 22 cal pellet penetrates the skin easy. This pellet gun has no problem killing these big lizards. Thanks for such a good product.
Great price and well made
Have not found any cons yet. Shipping was a bit high

Bird's worst nightmare!!!
March 19, 2013
I got this gun last spring and since then, I have shot around 150 of the most annoying birds. This gun has great accuracy but I would definitely recommend a better scope. I used a 3-9 by 32 scope last summer, but I bought a Centerpoint 4-16 by 40 scope and with this scope I should be able to shoot birds at 75 yards or more. I have used the new scope as the rings that came with it were to big so I have to buy some. This gun is very powerful and could take down rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and probably groundhogs.
Accuracy Light weight Easy to cock
not anything

What are the best kind of pellets for this rifle?
By raclarkus from Portland, OR on April 29, 2012

The best ammo? Only you can answer "What is the best ammo". I've had good patterns with pellets with taper points and with rounded points.

Try some of the Crossman taper-type ammo and compare it to the Benjamin round-point ammo and see what you think.

I use both and like both types equally well.

Can this gun take out groundhogs?
By Conor from Sunnyside, Washington on August 21, 2012

Maybe with a headshot at 10yds, but no further.

Is the stock on this rifle fitted for kids or adults? The Quest model was fitted for adults, but many models have shorts stocks better suited for younger folks.
By Staff on April 27, 2012

The optimus is a full size 43 inch gun.
It is fitted mainly for adults.
