Unfortunately AD (and their sister company PA) both think they can just dump the product on the shipping dock and everything will be fine. Maybe so if you ship with a responsible carrier but their carrier of choice is UPS and UPS strives to destroy the contents of ANYTHING that travels in a long box. AD assists UPS in this effort with double boxing with very little packing between the interior box and the exterior box. The result is that the product package can fly around inside( the unprotected space building up a lot of energy before it slams into the end of the larger box. This approach to shipping expensive products has been going on for at least a decade that I am aware of in spite of my bitter complaints about it. Their east coast sister company does exactly the same thing. I no longer order from their sister company (on the other side of the continent giving UPS more time to destroy the product en-route). AD is slightly nearer with slightly better shipping results.
Pros
I'm very positive on all aspects of this air rifle. I like the AR motif, it's familiar and functional. I'm VERY impressed with the engineering of this rifle. Not only the performance and quality of the rifle but also the obvious commitment to cost control. FX as a company was on a "moon mission" for a long time with wildly escalating costs for cutting edge only technology. Now they have reversed course apparently and are applying that now mature technology into wonderful and reasonably priced air rifles. I thought this day would never come and I'm thrilled that it has at last. The concept of a "wrap-around" the barrel reservoir and using the apparent "magazine well" as a location for a performance tuned plenum chamber is brilliantly executed. The result is a relatively light rifle with a very adequate shot count that is accurate and quiet relative to it's potential without having to resort to an expensive add-on moderator.
Cons
The magazine. With all the brilliance of the rifle the magazine is disappointing. In my case the first round served by the magazine is almost always a flyer. I haven't yet figured out why so the work-around for now is to not use the first hole. Supposedly there stainless steel covers available from FX that improve the performance of the magazine, especially with slugs. But they aren't available (at least not in June of 2026) in the US. After market manufacturers make an excellent solution refined for either pellets or slugs but they are not available in a size that fits the DRS Tactical. So the hope is that the rifle will be successful in the market and someday soon these important accessories will be available in the US.
