Gamo Rocket DX
October 10, 2010
I check marked that I would NOT recommend this to others only because I am having a lot of difficulty finding accuracy with this particular gun. I will throw "flyers" at least 3 out of 5 shots on paper at 25 yards. This is shooting off of a rest in near perfect conditions. I've tried several different types of ammo and still have not hit the "sweet spot" if you will, on accuracy. Gun quality seems to be OK, the scope is pretty cheaply made, although I am accustomed to high power rifle scopes and such. I am afraid that it is going to be a long journey trying to find the pellet(s) that will shoot with accuracy out of this gun.

Best rifle for $$$

Why would you buy any other Gamo rifle? They are really all the same, packaged a little differently (style of stock or addition of Whisper) but this Rocket DX is the "Cats Meow". This is the lightest rifle of the bunch (in some cases by a few pounds!!) is not ridiculously long, has the latest and greatest Gamo power plant/spring, a good scope... all for $160.00 +/-. Save your hard earned money, Gamo is just selling a dozen different versions of the same rifle...but this one is the best. I was intrigued by the whisper, but have heard it really is not that quiet. Pick up some Predator Polymags or JSB Diablo exacts, and you are set with this rifle. This rifle has an excellent, comfortable stock with rubber inserts for grip and balances well. Weight wise, this is the lightest Gamo available... along with the Bone collector version. If you really want to step it up... take a look at the Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston in the Laminate stock - now that's a rifle - but for $160.00 you cannot do better than the Rocket DX!

The possum attacked my cats at night. A week later, i saw him walking across the back yard. Went to the window, aimed and downed him from 20 yards. Needed one more shot to put him down, but this gun's got a serious punch. Take that vermin!

I've been looking at this gun and it looks nice but i was wondering how it shoots from different ranges since it doesn't have iron sights. Also, how hard it is to tune the scope? I know that some air rifles are only accurate without a scope.
