Powerful gun
It's a great gun. I shot heavy grain bullets out of it and it is still louder then my 22lr. I have shot this gun at phone books and it's gone to about page 650 at 25 yrds. It's a very good gun. However, I recomend getting a one piece mount for this gun bc it has a lot of kick.
ProsA lot of knock down power.
Consloud and a lot of cocking effort

SOCOM is an awesome weapon
One very nice air rifle. I wish I bought the .22 but the .177 is still very capable. I'm thinking about having it drilled and grooved to .22 caliber just because it has so much power. I did some breaking in with about 200-300 rounds and woke up with an aching shoulder. I did get it to group into a nickel size pattern, then all heck broke out with the scope. Adjust knob slipping, internal flake on lens, sliding up mount which cut into frame of scope with mount, then cross hairs started to spin to the point where I just use the center power glow point anymore. I have a better scope on order (can't wait to see how it works with a 10 X 40 X 50) that should show paper fibers on the target. I bought another Gamo that is 1000 fps, but the SOCOM has already spoiled me. Was looking at PCP rifles and found another brand high power break barrel and will try it first. They are running out of .22 at most sites, so I'm thinking another discontinue is coming.
ProsI look at this like a flyer of hello's. They say it can't fly but it beats the air into submission. It's fast, heavy, and loud, but I love it. Best air rifle I've ever owned. Has good grouping with work. I use the Eunjin 16 gr. .177 pellets.
ConsFor the price, they might burnish the sharp edges and put a scope stop on the base mount. They discontinued the line and no upgrade barrel available, that I could find and by talking with Gamo on the phone. I recommend it, but good luck finding one.

Gamo Socom Extreme .177
Purchased this gun last week only took 2 days for delivery. Mounted the scope that came with it. Met some friends on Saturday for a afternoon of shooting. It only took 6 shots to adjust the scope and I was off and running. Very accurate shooting at 100'. I was surprised at the noise from the pellets that came with the gun Aluminum. Not for shooting around the neighbor hood with the noise. With heaver led pellets noise was much less. just as accurate. The scope works great no problems at all. trigger a bit stiff. I would recommend it to any one looking for a good fun gun to shoot.
ProsPriced right. accurate. fun to shoot.
ConsNoisy with aluminum pellets. Trigger a bit still

gamo socom extreme. 177 cal
This gun is awesome ! Looks, feels and performs great.
ProsI love this rifle! Its look, texture and power are all awesome. 1650 Fps! Unheard of in other brands.its crazy accurate! I'm the envy of all my friends that have rifles.scope came ready to go right out of the box.
ConsIts too loud,a gun like this should have a silencer, or noise suppressor. The tactical socom has it and I think this one should have one too.other than that.this gun kicks ass!

socom extreme
hello. first this gun is powerful. i bought it to kill some squirrels. it will do that and then some. it passes thru large pumpkins with ease from 40 yards. the downsize is the noise. it is louder than a 22 long rifle. it is not for use around neighbors. this was a surprise for me. if thats not a concern for you then i recommend it.

is there any sound reducer one can get for this?
By Staff on January 5, 2012

Hi, no you can't get a sound suppressor for this because it would be illegal (without proper permits at least) The ATF allows sound suppressors on air rifles only if they are permanently attached to the gun.

is the 1650 spiral bore or smooth

By Conor from Sunnyside, WA on February 24, 2012

It has a rifled barrel (the "spiral barrel").
By Chevota from CA on May 25, 2012

It is rifled ("spiral" as you put it). It says this in both the Description and Specs section.
I believe all the beak barrel guns sold here are rifled. The only smooth bore might be a few of the cheap pump or CO2 guns, especially the pistols, but if they're smooth bore they'll also say they shoot BB's. All of the rifles that only say they use pellets will be rifled All the guns that say only BB's are smooth bore. All the guns that say both pellets and BB's could be either way so verify before you buy one of those. Regular steel BB's and Lead BB's are very different, the steel BB's will damage a rifled bore because they are harder than the barrel and since many steel BB's are deformed and oversize in some dimensions they will tear up the rifling lands. Even if the mfg says steel BB's are ok in a rifled barrel (like the Crosman 760) they should never be used, not even once, unless you don't care about the damage. Lead BB's on the other hand are soft and won't hurt the rifling, but they're very hard on piston driven guns like break barrels because there isn't enough weight/resistance to them and like a dry fire it causes the piston to bottom out hard. So lead BB's should only be used in pump, CO2, and pneumatic guns which don't have a piston to worry about. Also note that very light pellets like alum or alloy (Gamo PBA, Crosman Super Sonic etc) are also hard on piston guns in the same way, and the more powerful the gun, like this one, the harder it is on the internals. Same with cleaning pellets which is exactly like dry firing, so always use a lead pellet with a cleaning pellet to prevent damage.

what does the scpe look like-when you look through it. Does it have a red dot or regular crossairs or something else?

By Conor from Sunnyside, WA on January 31, 2012

It has regular cross-hairs.
By Chevota from CA on May 25, 2012

It's a standard looking reticle with the option of turning on a colored dot in the center for better visibility in the dark. Look on the Gamo website for better pics. Scopes work well at night, but usually the reticle isn't visible so this solves that. It also helps when shooting a black/dark object where the regular black reticle is lost in the background. The reticle is also etched into glass vs the usual thin steel crosshairs because the more powerful airguns like this can break them.
By Todd from SoCA on May 25, 2012

It has a regular reticle for normal use, plus a small lit dot in the center for low light/night conditions, or black/dark targets where regular black cross hairs are not visible. I believe you can set it for red, blue or green, and adjustable brightness. I had a similar scope and the light is very nice for shooting rats in the dark of night. The cross hairs are also etched on glass because more powerful piston guns like this can break the normal and very thin/weak steel cross hairs. Once you break those your scope is pretty much useless. I broke a hair on a scope once and used the only replacement I could find, a hair from my head! It turned out terrible, my hair was much thicker, blurry, and translucent. It worked but it looked like hell and was too thick for real accuracy.

can iget the gun with a diffent scope?
By Staff on March 19, 2012

It comes as a kit from the manufacturer.

By Jim from Montana on January 27, 2012
Does the rifle shoot true to point of aim through the scope, after many cockings? How often must it be re-zeroed?
By Conor from Sunnyside, WA on January 31, 2012

Once you sight it in, it shoots at POI.
By Chevota from CA on May 25, 2012

Like all the piston driven guns they scopes will move aft if not secured well enough, they need strong mounts and usually some kind of stop to prevent the mount from sliding back on the rail. So as long as it's secure it should not change zero. But keep in mind that parallax will affect zero a great deal, and since most people don't know what it is, and the fact that most scopes are off, there are a lot of complaints about scopes and/or accuracy with airguns. Google parallax for a better understanding, and once you have that you can adjust it by turning the front lens in or out. Good luck!

Hello Dmitriy,

We leave discontinued items on our website for a few months after they've been discontinued because sometimes we will still get some of the last stock from the supplier or we will sell refurbished versions. Also some of the discontinued items get replaced by a new version of the item, and we use the same ID. To answer your question, yes, there is a chance that you can purchase this particular item, however, we do not know when it might become available.
