Sports Are Too Expensive!
Who said shooting had to be expensive? We never said that! It’s easy to spend more than you’d like but it takes some deeper thought and self control to achieve a plinking range for under let’s say $50.00! We bet if you look around you’ll find you’re in a target rich environment. Let’s dive in!
One of the pros to shooting airguns is the affordability. Don’t get us wrong, any sport can get expensive if you let it, but with airgunning there are a multitude of offerings from almost nothing to the decision of whether to buy a new car or an airgun.
Stereotyping…
If you’re setting up a homemade plinking course for under fifty bucks, it may be appropriate to say you may be an airgunner with a Crosman Vantage NP break barrel airgun or maybe you like Co2 and your favorite plinker is the Colt Peacemaker Pellet Revolver.
We could also be way off base and you still want an inexpensive range because you just gifted yourself the Feinwerkbau 900 LAU and a homemade range is all you can afford. If you don’t know what that air rifle is, right now, go take a look, you’ll see what we’re talking about.
The truth may very well be that money is not an object and you really enjoy getting creative, we’ll go with that. You’re going to have the best under fifty range if you are close to or close friends with a “stuff” collector.
Piles of “Junk”
As you gaze upon their piles of junk, or we should say stuff so we don’t offend, let your imagination run wild! Soda cans and bottles are an obvious choice, you can even make them resettable by hanging them on a set of old saw horses so they bounce back every time!
Here are a few items to consider.
- Different size nails in a simple piece of scrap wood.
- Lids of any sort, pellet tins, soda bottles, milk jugs, paint cans, etc.
- Bottles, soda cans, and jugs.
- Spoons, forks, and butter knives.
- Go kart, bicycle, tricycle, fencing, and old furniture.
Since most of this is considered trash, this type of range might almost cost you nothing but time and just for fun a couple cans of spray paint. Have you heard of the tac driver challenge amongst airgunners a few years ago? It’s where accuracy and power come into play.
Your Range Could Be
Imagine this is your new plinking range, the first target station is set at twenty-five yards where you have four varying nail sizes starting at six penny up to sixteen penny. They’re aligned in two rows on a piece of scrap wood, one row per shooter.
The second station is an old bicycle frame decorated with all sorts of bottle caps and lids, each side set up the same for, again, two shooters. Then hanging from some old saw horses are the soda cans and bottles ready to take a beating!
Lastly the old panel of hog fencing that was waiting to be hauled off to the dump, is standing upright with old worn out kitchen cutlery hanging from it ready to be repainted when necessary. There are many costless options when it comes to airgun plinking.
For the times when time or your imagination escapes you there are a few targets that you can place in your range that would keep you under the $50 mark. You could get five packs of the Air Venturi Shoot ‘Em Down Silhouette Targets, well maybe four to take taxes into consideration. You could also mix it up with the Umarex Multi-Shot Spinning Target, the Crosman Spinning Target two pack, and lastly but most definitely not last the Air Venturi Crazy Eights Reset Target.
There are plenty of options for an inexpensive plinkers’ range! Whether you enjoy getting creative or can’t afford not to, always safely enjoy the wonderful world of airgunning!
