Modular Competition Air Rifles, One Air Rifle, Many Uses

With the various things there are to use an airgun for, some airgunners may be looking for a platform that in some sense does it all, or at least, all that they would like it to do. Other airgunners may be content and able to purchase multiple air rifles for each intention.

For those that prefer a “many airguns in one” air rifle, let’s dive into some of the modular airguns that can be dual purpose. From competition, to backyard plinking, to hunting, or long distance shooting— some of the best airguns to maximize their utilization are available now!

Macavity Arms

One of the newest ones is the Macavity Arms MA8. It has features that not many, if any, other airguns offer. It comes from the factory available in .30 caliber, but accepts the FX STX barrels from .177 up to .35 calibers.

The ability to swap calibers creates an adaptable airgun for multiple purposes. Also, with the FX STX Barrel Kits, you can choose the length more suitable for your needs. The 500mm is great for a compact platform or 800mm for long range high power shots.

What about the externally adjustable regulator that can be adjusted up or down without degasing the pcp? Again, choose low power for some backyard plinking or high power for hunting, a tried and true single platform and extremely versatile.

This is just a condensed explanation of why these airguns would make a great option for one airgun that does it all. We’ll leave the rest of the details for a Definitive Guide in the future.

FX Airguns

FX Airguns has a few offerings in this category. The FX Crown VP MKII which also comes from the factory in .30 caliber but has the option to swap barrels for different calibers or lengths to transform your airgun into the one you want it to be at that moment.

Another FX is the Impact M4. You can order the M4 in calibers from .177 up to .30 and add the other caliber barrel kits to your arsenal to swap it out. One air rifle with little limitations. With so many barrel kit configurations, from caliber to length and type of barrel, the possibilities are almost endless.

Barrel Length

If you are going to shoot a large caliber at a long distance, a longer barrel would be your best bet. If you’re shooting smaller calibers, the length doesn’t really improve the accuracy and velocity because it doesn’t require the time to achieve speed that a larger projectile would.

For example, if we are shooting .30 caliber pellets at 100 yards, I may install the 800mm barrel to increase the time spent in it to build up maximum velocity for the best results at that distance.

For Instance

Here’s another scenario, we’re traipsing through the woods squirrel hunting with a .22 caliber FX Impact, what barrel do you think is best? If we’re considering the terrain and maneuverability, the shorter 500 or 600mm barrels would be best. It doesn’t take the smaller calibers as much time to build speed and perform accurately.

Many airgunners are collectors and prefer their arsenal to contain a multitude of airguns, maybe there are some that prefer one airgun that does it all! Whichever one you are, be happy and shoot safe!
