Single-pump pneumatic with side pump lever;standard bolt action. AVANTI's intro to mid-grade pistol. The Avanti 717 is a great air pistol for high school, scouts, 4-H, and NRA target competition and training at a great price. Match-grade air pistols generally cost hundreds of dollars, sometimes well over $1,000. The 717 Triumph is an exception to the rule. This .177 caliber single-stroke pneumatic air pistol truly delivers match accuracy at a suggested retail price of under $200.

The Triumph weighs about two and one-third pounds and measures 13 and a half inches from end to end. It has a blade and ramp front sight and an open rear sight that is fully adjustable for windage and elevation simply by turning the appropriate screw on the top or right side of the sight.

The single-stage trigger is adjustable from one to four and a half pounds of pull by turning a small screw located in the pistol frame just under the trigger guard. The grips are molded, checkered plastic with a contoured thumb rest. Left-hand grips are available at additional cost.

Loading the Triumph is straightforward. First, put the pistol on safe by pushing the trigger safety from left to right so that no red is showing. Next, rotate the bolt handle upward and pull it back. This cocks the action. The Triumph cannot fire with the bolt open, but the bolt must be open to pump the gun.

Next, pump the gun by pulling the pump lever, located on the left side of the pistol, as far forward as possible then returning it to its original position by pushing on the curved end of the lever with the palm of your hand. About 17 pounds of force are required to complete the pumping stroke.

With the bolt back and the gun pumped, load a pellet, solid end first, into the feed track in front of the bolt. Push the bolt forward, then rotate the bolt handle down. Make sure the Triumph is pointed in a safe direction and click the safety off. You're now ready to fire. Squeeze the trigger, and the pellet will zip downrange at around 360 feet per second, depending upon the weight of the pellet.

The 717 Triumph is a favorite of IHMSA silhouette shooters not only because it is the most accurate air pistol that qualifies for the air pistol production class, but also because it is competitive in all other IHMSA air pistol classes. Many world records have been set with the 717 Triumph, and it can be used for entry-level 10-meter air pistol competition.

In addition, the Triumph is an excellent pistol for high-accuracy friendly competition in the back yard. With a Triumph, a tin of pellets, and a box of ShatterBlast targets, you'll likely be amazed at how far and how accurately you can shoot with an air pistol.

An adjustable piston in the single-pump pneumatic system for consistent velocity maintains pinpoint accuracy, shot after shot. Also features an adjustable trigger and match-grade choked steel barrel. This is a no-nonsense match pistol

People call in all the time asking, "What is the difference between the 717 and 747 pistols?" There is only one difference between the two models and that is the trigger assembly that is used. The 717 uses a non adjustable two stage trigger that makes it less expensive. The 747 uses an advanced single stage trigger that has very little pull to it making it excellent for competition shooting. Features:

  • Ideal gun for 10-meter target practice<
  • Useful for training new shooters on gun safety
  • Good accuracy
  • Right-hand, molded-plastic grips with thumb rest
  • Receiver, frame & cocking mechanism are metal

Why oh why can we no longer buy this gun new (and it’s siblings) in the UK

Pros
Superbly accurate, lovely gun - I owned one of the first ones imported in the late ‘70s and enjoyed it so much I have had to replace it (but would love a 747 and a 777 as well (.177, of course!)

Cons
Slightly more power would be nice

A very nice hand gun, and being my first .177 caliber I am pretty proud of myself. All the reviews worked for me and allowed me to make a fine choice. AirgunDepot is a great place shop for this typw of weapon!

Pros
great fee in the hand

Cons
little heavy

Very accurate. Very easy to cock and load. Well balanced. Loves 7gr match wadcutters. A very low cost pistol to star a venture into target shooting. This gun is good enough to compete with. For most of us you couldn't score higher with a gun costing ten times more. An excellent gun at twice the price.

Pros
Everything Cost Accuracy Trigger Easy cocking and loading.

Cons
Can't think of a thing!

I had to make a minor adjustment in the front sight, and it's heavy with a huge grip for my granddaughter (ages 9 & 11). But it's great for me (72), my son-in-law (37), and my grandson (13).

Pros
Easy, accurate, and most of all fun.

Cons
Too big and heavy for little girls.

I bought this pistol a month ago, I have a collection of air pistols; Webleys,Walther umarex, two other crosmans and a few bee mans most at twice the price. There are likes and dislikes of all the guns, most being difficulty or in possibility of making trigger adjustments; accuracy dependent on ammo brand, etc. the Avanti 717 has none of these hang-ups! It shoots very accurately all the brands and types of .177 lead ammo, trigger adjustment is super easy. Also it's the quietest of any pistol I have ever handled. I can shoot targets accurately at 33 feet(10m) in the house or the garage, sometimes late into the night without bothering anyone.I often set a time to stop but it's hard to put this gone down.

Pros
Perfect weight, very easy to pump, Great trigger, Match grade grips easy to load

Cons
This is the only pistol I own that I have everything to like about it; ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, and it deserves more.

I gave this product a less than favorable review earlier. Daisy sent me a repair slip to send it back for repairs. I have now received this piece back from Daisy and am well pleased with the results. This piece is perfect for ten or fifteen meter practice in the back yard using the little Gamo pellet trap. I find every aspect of the piece favorable, from the large sights to the adjustable trigger. It is a large and heavy piece compared to the other airgun pistols I have, but this just gives me a little change of pace or variety. Excellent piece. I'm glad I have it and it's brother, the 747.

Pros
It's all good! What not to like.

Cons
Nope

The jury is still out on this one. I purchased this piece along with it's brother, the 747. The 747 does fine. This piece has an oddity, in that it has to be fired without a pellet in it the first time, then shot normally, or else it is under powered. In other words it has an air leak. I have just contacted Daisy and they sent me a return slip through fedex. I am in hopes that the error can be corrected, and I can start enjoying the years of shooting that this piece should provide. Since the grips are designed to shoot with only the right or left hand, I ordered left handed grips for my 747 and right handed grips for the 717. This allows practice with either hand. I hope I can update this review later and say that Daisy did their duty and fixed the problem

Pros
Nice piece. Well built and easy to pump and shoot. Very accurate for my fifteen yard backyard range. Seems to shoot any and every kind of pellet with accuracy. I haven't at all felt the need to shoot anything but the least expensive Daisy pellets. They do just fine for the off hand shooting that I do.

Cons
Air leak, but I am supposing that quality control, even at Daisy, can have a bad day. Probably made on Friday at around 3:00PM. Hope they come through and get it fixed.

I am a terrible shot handgun, but I want to get better. Going to the range is expensive and inconvenient, not to mention the difficulty of acquiring ammunition. Acquiring this pellet gun allows me to practice whenever I have the urge. When first firing it, I was all over the target. I spent some time sighting the pistol on a rest which quickly allowed me some tight groups. I am now able to group all rounds in a 3" circle and expect my accuracy to improve. The pistol is accurate and easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their handgun shooting. PLUS IT IS FUN. Ask my neighbors....

Pros
Accurate and easy to use. Convenient for daily practice at home.

Cons
Expensive but isn't quality?

The newer 717's have an adjustable trigger just like the 747 from 1 to 4 lbs. This is exactly the same gun as the 747 except for the Lothar Walther barrel & even comes now with the 747 manual. The balance, great adjustable sight, wonderful trigger, good fitting grips (for my hands anyway) and accuracy, easy single pump all makes this a great shooting target pistol and Daisy customer service is the very best. I LOVE THIS GUN!!

Pros
Everything

Cons
Wow! wish I could think of something ?

This gun is a real shooter. With 65 year-old eyes, I can put 8 out of 10 shots in a 1 1/2 inch circle at 10 yards shooting offhand. With a rest, I can almost put the holes on top of each other. I have large hands, and the pellets are a little hard to get seated properly, but other than that I have no complaints. The gun has a good trigger and is easy to pump. Unless you are a competition shooter and want to impress everyone with an expensive gun, I can see no need to spend more than this for a target pistol. I highly recommend this gun.

Where can I get a rear replacement site for this pistol?

I started shooting matches with a 717. It shot much better than did I. After much practice and several matches, I was able to keep 1/4 inch groups at 10 meters. I'm more than likely to purchase another in the near future. Hope this was helpful.
