A real powerhouse, the RWS 460 Magnum spring-piston air rifle has a fixed barrel and cocks with an underlever. Made by the famous Diana company, you'll get the solid engineering and quality you'd expect from a Germany airgun manufacturer. Send lead pellets downrange at 1150 fps in .22 caliber, but speed is nothing without accuracy. You'll get those small groups you've always wanted. The right-hand Monte Carlo stock is made of beech and has checkering on the forearm and pistol grip. It comes with iron sights, but you'll want to mount a scope on the 11mm dovetails to get the most accuracy. Only 36 lbs. cocking effort.

This a great varmint hunting and pest control tool. The 460 Magnum utilizes an under-lever cocking mechanism that provides superior leverage when cocking the airgun, resulting in less cocking effort than other spring airguns. With easy to use top-side loading port, micro adjustable sights, fixed rifles barrel, scope capability, and a classic American Sporter stock with rubber butt pad, the 460 magnum delivers the performance, power and grace expected from an RWS rifle.

Best spring gun I have
April 28, 2015
I have several spring guns, including a RWS 36. While my 36 has been the best of my springers, that has now changed. The first 460 that I got from AD had a rough breech where the pellet was inserted. There were metal slivers that would catch on my finger. I shot it in my garage to check the fps (Chrony) the 14 gr Crosman averaged 870fps. I returned this one and they sent another in one week. These guys are great. Always return to AD if you can, they are great, I have delt with Umerex before and it was an expensive nightmare. Avoid at all costs. Yeah, I know, lifetime warranty--blah blah. You will pay shipping & ins both ways and they will blame you first. The second gun I got is in perfect cond. and is absolutely deadly at 60 yds. using a 6X RWS scope. Diabolo 18s are best so far. The fps of this one is 850 ( with the Crosmans), so I lost a little, but it is still more than my Ben. Disc. I also bought the Williams peep for this ( just in case it eats the 6X scope) and it also works great.
Very accurate--hits hard--don't need to use art. hold--looks great--peep sight is almost as good as a scope, even with the wide front sight.
Heavy, really heavy with a scope and one piece mount. Tight space to load the pellet. If you use a scope or peep, remove the factory open sight, that will give more room to load pellets. Warning, shooting this can lead to addiction to top of the line guns.

RWS 460 Magnum
March 20, 2015
Purchased this air rifle several weeks ago, and just now had a chance to give it a try. First off, item arrived well packaged and undamaged. My first ten rounds were shot using the iron sights and I was so impressed with the grouping I decided to give it a try with a scope I purchased just for this air gun. The scope is a Hawke 3-9X40 AO and is mounted on the rifle with UTG droop compensator and weaver rings. Now, I haven't shot anything in probably 20 years so when I put the lead down range (13 yards - in basement) without any adjustments to the scope I was pretty surprised- see photo. It will be fun to shoot it when the weather warms and get to see how it performs at 30 yards. Purchased rifle with the thought of eliminating some problem Chimp Monks and squirrels but not sure if I can do it. As I mature (ok, get older) not sure I can let the air out of those poor creatures. Note, the first time I cocked the air rifle the safety did not extend fully. Not sure if every thing was just stiff or what, but the rifle would not fire. Finally after re-cocking and watching the bear trap mechanism I could see the safety was fully extended. Trigger is awesome. When it fires, I'm surprised.
Power, accuracy and workmanship.
Loading of pellet into chamber.

What everybody else said
December 17, 2014
Beautiful, well-made gun. Shot great right out of the box. If you order one, I would emphasize that the gun isn't cocked until the auto-safety is fully extended and the white dot is fully visible. I was cocking it just to the point of the anti-beartrap mechanism catching, which caused me some consternation until I re-read the instructions and noted there should be no negative resistance on the lever arm after the gun is loaded and the lever is released. The good news in all that is I ran a soft barrel cleaner through several times to back out the pellets that weren't firing, and I got a considerable amount of the preservative gunk out they come from the manufacturer with. You'll love this gun if you get a chance to shoot one.
Accurate, powerful, fairly quiet.
None that I've found yet.

Beautiful Accurate .22 Springer
November 15, 2014
This is the best and most beautiful air rifle that I own. The quality of the workmanship is outstanding. I use a Benjamin .22 Discovery with a scope as my squirrel sniper rifle, but I wanted something with on barrel open sights that does not have the shot limitation of a PCP with the same or better power. The RWS Diana fits that bill easily as my new in the field bush whacking pellet rifle. It was accurate right out of the box and I never touched the open sights at all. I am breaking it in at an indoor 50 foot range using lead free H&N Barracuda Greens and Gamo PCB. It seems to be insensitive to the pellet type or hold and accurate out of the box. In fact, instead of the usual springer artillery hold, the 460 seems to do best with a regular rifle hold. Once I got use to the 460, all were going into a one inch black at 50 feet using the on barrel open sights. In the field, the first two shots resulted in two dead gray squirrels, one at 10 feet and the second via a head shot at 22 yards, both using 14.3g Benjamin HPs. That's why I wanted power and accuracy with open sights - scopes don't do well at 10 feet and then 22 yards - most scopes can't be used at less than 10 yards. While all pellets tried have been accurate, I like the Benjamin 14.3g HPs and they are seeing 890 FPS for 25 FPE with the 460 (for reference my Discovery PCP sees 815 FPS for 22 FPE using the same pellet). I do not plan on mounting a scope - I will stay with the open sights.
Beautiful workmanship and high quality, fixed barrel accuracy out of the box, very smooth and accurate springer and exceptional T06 trigger; not hold or pellet sensitive. Some Chrony numbers: Benjamin 14.3g get 890 FPS for 25 FPE; RWS Superdome 14.5g get 883 FPE for 25 FPE; H&N Barracuda Match 21.14g get 669 FPS for 21 FPE.
None. This is a beautiful .22 springer hunting rifle.

Great Rifle
June 4, 2014
I was very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of this German made rifle. The quality of the fit and finish is better than most of my sporting rifles. The stock looks and feels like a hunting rifle. The cocking lever reminds me of the gas tube on an M1 Garand in appearance. The stock is slender with excellent balance and points very well. It is easy to cock but not quite as easy as my full length RWS 34. I have tried several pellets but have found that accuracy is very good to excellent with all of them. It does seem to have a slight preference toward RWS Superdomes, but I need to further test this with a scope (although I'm not sure I need a scope on this rifle). My rifle is in 22 caliber.
I like everything about this rifle. I would buy another one if it were available in 25 caliber. I have quite a few rim fire and center fire rifles but I am actually having more fun with this air rifle. At the cost of the pellets, you can shoot it all day at very little cost. I'm actually taking this one out of the safe before my FNFAL or Garands. This rifle is nothing like the near toy-like quality of the air rifles of my youth.
There are no significant cons. I would like the front sight to be hooded like the RWS 34.

Great Pellet Gun
May 30, 2014
I have run this gun for about one year now trying to thin our out of control rock chuck population. Dogs and wife don't like the crack of the powder burners so I gave this gun a try. At 50 yards and under(with well placed shots) it will take down big fat chucks all day long. I have tried a host of pellets and it seems the crosman premier round nose 14.3 grains work consistently well. This gun was not really happy with the 20 plus grain ammo in my hands. Get a good scope mount and a decent piece of glass for it. The gun deserves it. If you hold it right sub one inch groups at 50 yards are not difficult. At 25 yards this gun will shoot right through 5/8's plywood. This is not an inexpensive purchase but it is a quality rig that works.
accurate, powerful, not too noisy, nice fit and finish, will last a lifetime if cared for properly
little harder to load than a break barrel if your hands are large, little on the heavy side to shoot off hand at distance

Powerful & smooth shooting
February 1, 2014
This is my first .22 caliber air rifle & I'm very pleased with the way the RWS 460 shoots. It was very smooth shooting & didn't have the spring "twang" I usually experience with spring rifles. Didn't feel the need to adjust the trigger because the pull weight seemed light enough for my purpose. Accuracy is very good & variations are minimal with the pellets I've tried so far. Still experimenting with different weights & brands to find the most accurate pellet. Build quality is top notch as you would expect from a German made air rifle. The rifle has a lot of power and pellets in the 14 to 15 grain weight range do pretty well at knocking over my steel .22 rim fire targets. This will make a great small game hunting rifle for shooters 16 or older. The cocking effort is pretty stout so take this into consideration when purchasing this rifle.
1) Very high quality craftsmanship. 2) Powerful & accurate.
1) Rifle is a bit on the heavy side.

I love it, and I enjoy it!
January 26, 2014
You can shoot squirrels all day long... head shoots. If I go hunt something, I take my RWS 460 with no doubts. I don't like it as much as my tx200 for target shooting. My wife like it a lot! Her name is Diana... The gun is accurate, easy to shoot, easy to maintain. You get a nice feeling even on rainy days... just taking it out the case and looking thru the scope, feeling the weight of it resting on your hands, or just cleaning the gun. You can not regret this investment!
Very nice gun, easy to cock (easier than my TX200mkIII ), very accurate. The gun is light, even with Hawke Sport Optics EV 3-9x50 AO Panorama scope. You can carry it all day long and enjoy it. Its easy to run the cleaning pellets thru the barrel (compare to my TX200). The safety is much better than on my tx200!
The mounts for the scope that comes with it for free are not good... The scope keeps slipping all the time. Had to buy another mounts and scope (which I was planning initially, but I could not enjoy the gun as soon as I got it in the mail). If you can not afford another scope, just get you some nice mounts, this scope is better than the sights.

RWS 460 Diana 22 cal.
December 3, 2013
After reading all the reviews those gunner about this rifle RWS 460 22cal. I decided to get one for myself. Finally! now I can tell my self that this rifle is really one of the best in Spring Under-lever! I try shooting it in 20 yards! and wow its powerful and accurate! The quality, is very refined well crafted! Like my Hatzan BT65..25 cal. Its good that I did not listen to the Guy name Dirty Harry from Top Air Gun...he said that 22 caliber in Under lever or Break barrel Spring piston cannot be accurate as .177 caliber. He said too that 22 cal. pellet is too heavy for the power given by spring piston?! That's BOGUS?!! why RWS and other Manufacturer made 22 cal. in a first place! plus if you are not satisfied to the rifle you can exchange or return it anyway!
Excellent, accurate, and powerful one of its kind Spring Piston Rifle!
Zero...except those who said that this rifle is not Good!

best gun for hunting well worth the extra money!
October 10, 2013
I did a lot of research before buying a air gun. this one is hands down the best spring gun on the market! spending the extra money was well worth it. If you are looking for a great gun to shoot long range and be able to have the power to deliver. this is the perfect gun. This is the best of both worlds speed and and knock down. when you hit your pray you know. You get the "thawap" of the pellet hitting.
my farthest kill so far was 132 yards and spun the animal in a 180 and down it went. I'm sighted in at 110 yards . Look at what one shot to a can does.
The safety is not aloud to be put back to safe once taken off. So not safe if you don't shoot.

This is a finely crafted air rifle. It has a nice weight and balance to it. The cocking weight is heavy, but for the power it has that is to be expected. If you're in the market for a magnum springer, this is the one!

Very Impressive!
May 14, 2013
I took my new 460 .22 caliber out yesterday to sight it in, and was very impressed when the first three shots fired, while not on target, all went into one ragged hole. Two clicks to the left and one click down put it dead on at 20 yards. I already had a model 52 in .177, but this one seems far more powerful!
If I had a con it would be the cocking effort, which is rather stiff, but not really a problem. Its definitely not for a kid!

Best Airgun I have bought
May 1, 2013
This rifle screams nothing but quality craftsmanship. RWS takes a lot of pride in their work. The rifle is a bit heavy but I expected that. It’s not an issue for me nor is cocking. Very accurate and powerful. I found that the artillery hold works best. I’m right handed so I let the rifle lay in my left hand with open palm and I don’t butt the rifle against my shoulder. When I pull the trigger I let the rifle’s recoil float. The recoil is not bad at all; the rifle absorbs most of it. A T06 trigger came with mine and I have no issues with the rifle. AGD (Payton in customer service) went out of their way to get this to me in time for my Grandsons birthday. I’m going to buy another one for myself. Very happy and no regrets.
All around quality, you get what you pay for!

RWS 460 Magnum
March 26, 2013
In general, really like the rifle. Fit and finish is nice and is very accurate. I put out five rounds right out of the box at 15 yards that you could cover with a small button. Actually, three of the pellets essentially went through the same holes. The safety is not as positive as I would like. If you look at it wrong, it slides forward into the firing position which means you have to be EXTRA CAUTIOUS when handling it when it is calked and loaded.

A high end rifle but buyer must be prepared for some plastic parts
March 8, 2013
I ordered this gun in the hopes that I would be buying a gun that will last a lifetime. I also did not realize it has a plastic fore-end, trigger, and trigger guard. While plastic may also last a life-time, I make it a policy to buy guys that are largely metal with the exception of grips etc because I do not want to take a chance. I love the feel of an all metal and wood gun and the machining/craftsmanship that go with them. This gun as a shooter may be better or worse, but I did not shoot mine. I looked at it and boxed it up to return it. I have no experience with other RWS options but buyer beware, even though this is a high-end rifle it is not all-metal and wood, the way you might imagine.
Weight, size, stock, and everything that isn't plastic
The trigger, fore-end/sight assembly, trigger guard, and the elevation adjustment knob on the rear sight are all plastic.

A big MISTAKE... Almost!
December 15, 2012
The PROBLEM: Those pesky cute rats known as squirrels. Yes those rodents that cost me 2k to repair a pool heater, A.C., and replace all my lounge chair cushions those rodents used to make their nests. The TASK: Terminate rodents. The SOLUTION: I purchased a Gamo Bull Whisper Extreme Air Rifle. Returned the piece of junk. Then I purchased the RWS 460 from AGD. Absolutely flawless air rifle but really heavy and a challenge to cock. Although it was love at first sight, I was at an personal impasse with pros/cons. I boxed up the 460 and requested a RMA from AGD. For 6 days I passed that cardboard box with regret. On 12-12-12 AGD emailed me my RMA and as I was about to put on the shipping label I decided hold off. The following morning those pesky rodents were on my new patio furniture clawing away. I busted open the cardboard box and unpacked the 460. I cocked it, dropped in a .22 pellet, with stealth I went outside and swiftly terminated the fleeing rodent at 15 yards. The other rodents must have heard the commotion as they too fled from behind my pool heater, scampering to the brink of safety or so they thought, when I swiftly terminated a second rodent. The RWS 460 is absolutely the finest air gun system I have shot. Ok so it's a little heavier and some strength is necessary to cock it... however, flawed my initial physical interaction was with the 460, it's smooth, balanced, and crisp! WOW! I almost made a BIG MISTAKE by returning it! Ohhhhhh... BTW, AGD if you actually read this review I'm not returning my 460, sorry.
Well built, sturdy, balanced, and smooth crisp trigger. Impressive high end appearance.
Weight and pressure it takes to cock system.

AWESOME!!! Air Gun, Very Smooth, Powerful, Accurate
November 23, 2012
I was quite surprised after the first few shots from this rifle. It has it all. It is very Smooth and this is my new favorite of my Air Guns. The 460 Magnum, is POWERFUL, yet very smooth. It shoots pellets FAST with a VERY HARD Impact!! It is very accurate too. This is a quality gun that has simplicity and is elegant. The T06 trigger is a really nice trigger that is adjustable. I have not need to adjust the trigger yet. The bluing is real nice and even. All markings are very well done, all composite/plastic is top quality weapon grade and is heavy duty. I shot at a few bricks at 40 yards and it took a very large chunk out of the brick, and made a cool ricochet sound. Shooting cans at 40 yards, the pellets go through both sides of can like butter, and continue with plenty of power. Be careful of what is behind your target, as this is a beast of a gun. I have A LOT of powder guns in various calibers and I also have a few air guns, but this air gun is my favorite. Do your self a favor, don't buy the cheaply made garbage guns like Benjamin/Crosman cheap Chinese guns. Pay the very little extra and get something decent like any gun from RWS. They are the VERY BEST for the price. The RWS 34P is also awesome, just less power. This gun feels lighter in your arms than it is. LOP, length, and size is great. It has a very substantial feel that I really like. I have read that some people have said the front iron sight is too wide. I say BS, it is perfect. The target should be floating on top of the the front and rear sights, a little front sight paint is all that is needed, but a good 4-16x40 AO MD IR scope with a solid weaver rail mount will allow all that power to really reach out to those 100 yard shots. Did I mention this gun is AWESOME?? If you can only have one gun this should be at the top of your short list. Airgun Depot is great and shipped it same day I ordered. That is fast, and I had it in 3 days.
460 magnum, lots of POWER, hard hitting, power is very smooth, not hard to cock, and the trigger is awesome. It has a smooth pull w/clean crisp trigger break. The wood stock is nice. Quality! Quality! Quality! Simplicity at its best, all composite plastic is excellent! The Iron sights are nice. They are heavy duty but need to have some hi-viz gun paint on the front sight.
Things I did NOT like: nothing as far as this fine RWS gun goes. I wish I had bought a RWS gun first, instead of buying/wasting $$ on my Benjamin Trail NP .22 All Weather POS, as it is Chinese JUNK. Crosman/Benjamin American company producing cheap Chinese garbage. I wish we, the USA, could produce fantastic quality made guns like RWS does.

RWS 460 Magnum
July 23, 2010
I love this rifle. It is powerful and accurate. I had to learn the hard way. I bought less expensive rifles in the past thinking I could save money and still have a good product. The cheap guns have poor tolerances and craftsmanship. They work at first then simply fall apart after extended use. The RWS 460 Magnum is the finest pellet rifle I have ever owned. I am a skeptical person and do not give praise where it is not due. The under lever cocking is easy and quick. I have tried several types of ammunition and find domed pellets between 18 and 26 grains work best. Most hollow points just get ripped apart but JSB Exact Jumbo Monsters (25.4 grains) mushroom out to almost 3/8 of an inch for super knock down power. Beeman Kodiak extra heavy also do well.

I have been shooting air guns for 40 years.. Benjamin, crossman, gamo, they dont come close to the power and accuracy of this outstanding air rifle. came out of the box with fine groups.. cleaned it up.. scope, tightened any loose screws only one was slightly off torque... It is a workout to shoot for plinking around. not many kids will be taking it out of the gun safe... But. for me.. its just freakin awsome for an air rifle to be that powerful.. and that accurate.. 65 yards out.. nice 1.5 inch groups mainly cause I am not used to it yet. the more I practice with it.. the tighter the pattern gets. I use the RWS .22 Super-H-Piont 14.2 gr pellets. and I could not be more satisfied with the workmanship, power, and accuracy.. worth the money. I will hope to hand this gun down to my grandkids..

I received my 460 and Leapers 6-24X50 scope within a few days and had it mounted and sighted in within 45 minutes. The gun stock and barrel are top quality. I was able to achieve a 3/4 inch grouping at 30 yards and a 1 1/2 grouping at 50 yards with Predator pellets. The gun is far beyond any pellet gun I have ever owned in the past 30 years. I highly recommend the Leapers scope to compliment this excellent firearm.

RWS 460 Magnum .22 cal 1150 fps
March 15, 2008
Surprisingly good grouping straight out of the box and it definitely has plenty of power. Considering the power of this gun it has less recoil than most 1000 fps .177 cal guns that I have used. The gun has a nice weight and balance to it for free standing shots and is a considerablty lighter than the RWS 54 (no recoil) model and nearly as accurate. The cocking effort is also much less than the 54 model but please don't get me wrong, I love the 54 model. On performance it is hard to split these 2 guns and is really a coin flip between power vs accuracy. The 54 has the best accuracy and the 460 has the best power or if you don't have to choose one or the other then get one of each. First shot with the 460 went clean through a 1 gallon paint can complete with contents and made the lid pop off using an RWS Superpoint pellet. Haven't tried any Beeman Kodiak pellets in it yet. Impressive in all departments and is a quality gun.

This is a super airgun! Mine came shooting nickle sized groups at 30 yds. right out of the box with weighed and sized pellets. No 1 - 2000 shot settling in period for this one. Also, no need to look any further than the Crossman 14.3 grain domed pellets. They perform great and at reasonable cost. Want an airgun that will knock a cat squirrel off the limb? This one will do it!

how much recoil does this gun have, if you had a choice between the rws 54 air king and this gun wich one would you pick and why?
By PRIMO from MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO on March 8, 2012

All I know is that this rifle can hit soda cans at 75 yards- cal .22- on very windy days. As for recoill my 460 has less recoil than most break barrels as for the 54 which is mounted on a rail system its a question of having rws do a trial. the rws is a simple yet very ellegant rifle that shoot at 850+ fps cal .22 that gives you a big knock down capacity for hunting over 20+ foot pounds. If I had to choose 460 or 54 , the 460 is my bet : simple, elegant, accurate & powerfull. Almost forgot the 460 is an under lever way more easy to use than a side lever.
By Glenn from SE Connecticut on March 16, 2012

i cannot address choice between 460 and 54, but with regards to recoil on 460, it's really not bad. the bigger limiting factor is the cocking effort, and in my opinion, if you can cock it all day, then you can shoot it all day. i put in sessions of a few hours at a time, and any muscle fatigue is due to the cocking effort, not the recoil.

Yes I am very happy with this rifle. It is a great value for the sale price. Critters that are eating my garden this is your last warning!

This gun is TOP of the line. It's a German air rifle built to last a lifetime . The craftsmanship they put into these gun be it in mechanic or woodwork is where you see the $$$ you're going to pay . Believe me unless you have money to throw away it is only due to excellence that they can ask $500 for an air rifle when you can get a rim fire for a 10th of that.
