Let's face it...If you don't teach your kids to shoot, someone else will. Wouldn't you rather be the one to show your kids the ropes, proper gun handling, safety procedures and more? The Gamo Recon G2 Whisper air rifle has a lot going for it, including its light weight. It shoots pellets (either lead or alloy) and is great for instruction as well as hours of shooting entertainment. This rifle is part of Gamo's Youth Precision Airgun line. Of course, that doesn't mean only kids can shoot it. In fact, the low velocity and light weight make it attractive for adults who just want to do some plinking without a Herculean cocking effort. Most shooting instructors recommend starting with open sights. Once the shooter is accomplished in using them, mount the dot sight for further instructions using optics. Move your shooter along and help him progress to a higher level of marksmanship without having to buy another air rifle. Remember to get some reactive targets that immediately deliver feedback to the shooter without having to go downrange to see what happened. Showing the shooter where the shot landed helps hone shooting skills and keeps him interested. Lastly, this is a pellet rifle. Unlike guns that shoot steel BBs, the ammo from this rifle has a significantly lower chance of ricocheting and bouncing back to the shooter. That said, everyone (not just the shooter) should wear safety glasses. Remember to remove all pets from the area so ricochets don't bounce back to them.

I bought this gun as a first gun for my son, excellent for that use because it's light and easy to cock. It is very accurate with the open sights. The only reason I didn't give it a five is the red dot sight that comes with it, would have preferred without the sight and a few bucks cheaper. Overall very good.

Pros
Excellent beginner, easy cocking, very fun.

Cons
Red dot sight very difficult for accuracy.

Needed a starter for a grandchild. I looked and looked for one that had a decent FPS, open sights and would fit his short arms, this will fit him perfect. also comes with a reflex green dot sight. easy to see back and front sights, back sights have 2 green dots on either side front sight has a red dot. easy for young shooter to see and learn how to sight down barrel. We have not shot it as of yet. But the shipping from Airgun depot was spot on. In fact it arrived a couple days ahead of due date. Just as soon as I can get him to shoot it and see how it performs will come back and update this review.

Pros
Great starter for a child, light weight, open sights, also comes with a reflex green dot sight.

Cons
Not to thrilled about location of safety next to trigger.

Needed inexpensive, short range, shorty air rifle for rabbit extermination in a suburban neighborhood. Didn't want too much power since homes are quite close. I am an experienced shooter. My usual shot range for the rabbits is 10 yds avg. Didn't use the tactical scope. Too blurry. Iron sights are OK but I took them off and put on a fixed 4x BSA crosshair for $39. Sighted for 20 yds so i hold high for the short shots. Head shots only for clean kills. Using crossman premier hollow points. They don't expand. I am guessing the velocity is only around 600 fps with these pellets based on trajectory I am getting. Very accurate at 20 yds. with these. Cloverleafs on three shot groups.

Pros
Price. Very easy to crank. Good kid gun or for very close range pests.

Cons
None to think of really.

Your cocking effort is advertised incorrectly for the GAMO G2 Whisper. It's advertised as 30 lbs. That's the amount for the adult size rifle. This should be around 19 lbs.

asked STEVEN CHISHAM

Hi, Gamo says cocking is 19lbs and you are saying 30lbs I would truly like to know which is which? Many thanks [email protected] This regarding the Gamo recon g2 whisper

asked james Stanley

Will this rifle kill a rabbit or squirrel at 25 yards ? 750 fps seems slow for a small varmint rifle.

asked richard

yes, but it would kill a human at that distance with a temple shot or do some type of brain damage, i've killed rabbits with a red ryder so 750 fps is scooting right along, remember it's not about fps it's about shoot placement.. try this stand 25yds away and have your buddy shoot you in the leg and lets see if you still think 750fps is slow ??

robert from USA

I doubt it, it won't break a bottle. As the add says it is good for youth to learn gun safety and shooting prowess.my 7 yr. old loves it but would like more power. As soon as he can handle a larger rifle I will upgrade.

Shawn

This gun is .177 caliber which means you'll need good shot placement but to the point whith the right shot yes

Gibson

No, I can guarantee you that it will NOT kill a rabbit humanely from any distance unless with absolute perfect shot placement. This rifle would be able to take a squirrel if you place your shot properly. This gun is meant for target practice and plinking mostly

Jake the goat

I have killed three rabbits with mine in the last week with head shots at 10 yds in my small suburban back yard. It's quiet. Tactical scope is worthless. Use iron sights or mount a scope. Got to hit them square at close range with this on but it will definitely kill em.
