A lot of fun
By John from Orlando, Florida on April 27, 2012
I shot this rifle over at my friends house all the time it has never bored me. Its a great price for a great gun. For plinking you can't go wrong with this rifle. Do keep in mind the FPS is low so this is NOT a hunters rifle. But if your bored and you want to shot something thats cheap to buy an own, buy this rifle
Pros:
Lot of fun
Easy to use
Large "magazine" capasity
Cons:
The coking handle feals a little weak.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Greatest Begginer Gun on My Opinion
By Andrew from westbrookville New York on December 10, 2011
I bought my younger brother one of these he is 9 and i was just showing him how to shoot and i wanted to see how strong it really is so i backed up about 30 yards and i tested the distance and i hit a milk jug so it does have some power but it barely hit it and in my opinion this is the best begginer gun ever. I can probably kill something if given the chance with this thing. But my brother is now getting bigger and i would like to buy him a bigger gun to grow with him so please answer my question in the questions and answers section!
Pros:
Great Gun
Amazing Accuracy for the Price
Highly doubted
Capable of killing Small Pests
Great for Small Children
Cons:
Shows wear over time
Doesnt accept Pellets
Isnt strong enough for long range hunting

I would recommend this item to a friend.

very cool
By patrick on May 31, 2011
this was my first bb gun i got it when i was four it was the most fun i had and i still thank my dad for getting me into the wonderful world of airguns it is one of the most rugged, accurate, and fun guns i have ever had i am 13 now and i can still remember when i killed a dove with ONE SHOT in the back of the head of course i left it out in the rain i dry fired it i did everthing but jump up and down on it and it held up EXTREMLY well over the years and being that im 13 i dont shoot it much anymore i like to drop squirrels with one shot with higher caliber rifles

great bb gun
By keanan1 on February 3, 2011
this is a great bb gun i love it i found it to be very accurate i can hit a pop can at 50 feet. The gun shoots at 350 fps not 280 look on the Daisy website it will tell you. All in all great bb gun for the price.

FUN FUN FUN
By abc123 on January 15, 2011

By the green ryder on August 10, 2010
this was my first bb gun. its not accurate over about 20 feet, but a great beginers gun, and rather powerful for its class. mine put a dent in some pine. overall, great gun.

By jake on April 18, 2010

Just bought it
By Chris on February 4, 2010
Just bought this gun I have a hammerli in the mail coming and I wanted something to tide me over. Super fun gun to plink with in the garage. In the process of teaching my 6 year old how to shoot. Already has the ten rules memorized.

Great for plinking
By fallen tree airsofter on December 8, 2009
THis gun is amazing for plinking around in your back yard. It has a range of about 200ft (not accurate at this range). I have had mine for 7 years and it still works perfectly. One of the things i love about the red ryder is the lever action function, it makes it fun and easy to shoot and this gun hardly ever miss fires. It holds a lot of BBs so u can extend your fun! If your thinking about buying this gun just go ahead and buy it totaly worth 39 bucks.

awesome
By red ryder lover on December 3, 2009
had mine for a few month peirces cans and other targets it was a great 11 birthday presennt

For all you people looking to hunt with it
By John on August 4, 2009
This gun is great but to all you people saying it can't kill a bunny... it is because it is not made for that. This gun is made for dad's to teach there sons how to handle a real gun because it feels like the real deal. It is not made to hunt if you want something to hunt with look into the more expensive break barrels... i recomend a gamo but i just wanted to say this gun did what it was meant to do

best gun ever
By Trent whitted on August 4, 2009

A suggestion
By rick on April 15, 2008
Please, please, please, make a "soft air" version of this gun. EXACT same form and function, just plastic bb's! bb guns are a "firearm" in NJ. Guns that shoot plastic bb's are not.
Thanks!

By Adam on February 6, 2008
This was my first gun that I had ever shot in my life. I shot it at my friends house after Christmas when I was 7. I can almost guarantee that anyone who owns a gun of some sort, that this was their first.

NRA Qualified 3 cheers
By S H on July 14, 2007
I quallified official National Rifle Association NRA Pro-Marksman with the Red Ryder Model 1938B 10 year old's youth rifle at the age of 63. This was one of the first times I had fired live ammo since I qualified with the 30-06 M1 Grande rifle in army basic training almost 45 years ago. Three cheers for the Red Ryder BB gun.

Just Like My Old One
By HH on July 7, 2007
My folks surprised me 60 years ago with the Daisy Red Ryder for Christmas. This new one looks and performs exactly like the first one.

ok
By DM on May 18, 2007
this is a great gun for a kid or a younger person. I had one when I was 11 and recently gave it to my son. He enjoyes it, and it doesnt have to much power for youngsters.

dads gun
By josh on May 17, 2007
my dad gave me this same gun that is now 39 years of age. truly outstanding quality. but it wont go more the 15 feet, but still, its funt to have. im loking into some how souping it up/upgrades for it, but for rightg now, its fine.

Excellence
By mr.ME on December 31, 2006
a great begginner airgun. while it does have many great features, when the begginner has shot this many times they will yearn for more power and expandability. but that is th only complaint i have

Great overall
By nutyhermit on December 28, 2006
I still have mine...the 2nd version from about 15 years ago. Unfortunately the cheap little plastic bridge on the back site is missing. The rear site fell off but I glued it back on. I only wish the gun had a bit more power, like the one you used to pump from the barrel length-wise. It was a real squirril killer! The safety is a nice touch the old ones didn't have and thankfully the stocks are still "real" wood! Get one.

red ryder
By geneo on December 25, 2006
very good choice for a starter gun I got mine when I was around 8 or 9 and I still have it and it shoots like new I am 34years old now! I just bought my 8 year old one for christmas!

Black Bart

Daisy Classic Red Ryder 1938 BB Gun
$39.90
By Toubouc from Montreal, Canada on March 6, 2012
Is it possible to put a scope on it?
By Staff on March 6, 2012

Answer:
No.

By Andrew from westbrookville New York on December 10, 2011
My little brother has a 70 year anniversary red ryder and i was wondering if he can kill anything with it. I think its the same exact gun as this just says 70th anniversary. If he cant kill anything what is a good gun i can buy him to kill a squirrel maybe for under $50 a clean kill. He is about 80 pounds and 4' 10" tall if that changes anything. I really dont want to give him a .177 silent cat becuase i dont think hes ready for it but i would like to get something for him that is large enough and strong enough to take down a squirrel from about 20 yards. Or should i just let him use one of my rifles?
By Staff on December 29, 2011

Answer:
Hello Andrew,
You would have a hard time killing any animal with the red ryder since it is a bb gun. Pellet guns hit much harder. The Gamo Recon is a youth pellet rifle with fairly low FPS (525) that is still powerful enough to kill small animals like squirrels. The rifle is a bit smaller than adult rifles so your son would have no problem using it.
The gun is $75 which unfortunately is a bit higher than your desired $50.
I hope this helped

By Bob from Tucson, AZ on March 10, 2012
I heard that on some of the Red Ryders the lever was made of plastic but was later changed to metal. What year did they go back to metal and how do I make sure I am not getting the model with plastic via an internet purchase ?

By Staff on March 12, 2012

Answer:
I would recommend calling Daisy and seeing when stopped making them with plastic.
