The AirForce Texan made headlines throughout the firearm industry when upon release it was billed the world's most powerful production air rifle. The Texan turned heads then, and AirForce building upon that success with the AirForce Texan SS big bore air rifle! The Texan SS can give you up to 400-foot pounds of muzzle energy out of a compact size. Compared to its older brother, the Texan SS is just over 43" in carbine length while the older version is around 48". But within that compact size, AirForce also added a fully-shrouded barrel built Sound-Loc System technology. Compact size, sound suppression and big bore power are attributes to the perfect air rifle hunting platform. The AirForce Texan SS, a big bore without the big sound.

Pros
well constructed airgun

Cons
would make power setting a bit more functional to adjust on the fly would like a picatinny rail adjustable stock would also be nice

It is not a sonic boom that scares animals. So when you shoot it does not seem to spook them. It is powerful enough to comfortably and humanely harvest big game. I am thinking with one full fill on my carbon fiber tank I will have 3 solid shots possibly 4 when hunting but I have never needed more than 1.
These big bores are a lot of fun a little bit of a learning curve on them but once you have it all down you will have the confidence to actually hunt when you see your groups.
It really dings the steel plates and is way cheaper to shoot once you get past the initial cost of rifle/compressor. Makes for some fun days.

See the attached picture.

Pros
Great shooter. Bought the SS Texan with the carbon fiber tank from Air Gun Depot end of last year and put on a leuopold scope and it drives tacks. Took a doe at around 50 yards. No kick very quiet. The doe just stood there and I thought I had missed. I glassed her and saw a ruffled place on her shoulder and she then just dropped over. Did not spook her at all. Hit behind the shoulder but did not get a pass through. Might experiment more with my ammo. Did not stress the animal so the meat was delicious. Love the feel of the air rifle and the safety.

Cons
I added a padded rubber stock plate to add a little length due to the carbon fiber tank being shorter. I also used a dull carbon fiber wrap on the barrel to keep it from getting scratched up on my stand. Thing I would change is go to a standard pictany rail instead of 11mm and add swivel swings for a shoulder strap. I have added these things already.

I have had a failed valve on my spin loc tank....reached out to Airforce and they popped a replacement in the mail free of charge ...customer service has been fast and easy to deal with. No mechanical device will last forever, having a company not only stand behind its product but be pleasant to deal with fast and courteous is worth a lot

Pros
Hits hard. This rifle is a tank and its fairly quiet. After shooting large cal firearms for years its nice to have something hearing safe accuracy is great for hunting. Coyotes really don't stand a chance in 100 yards

Cons
Would love to be able to remove the automatic safety. Have had it stick several times when trying for quick follow up shots and its cost me a missed shot. Also be prepared for a work out if your a hand pumper ... You will go through a lot of air

This thing is a MONSTER!

I have the .45 with the carbon fiber tank. The stock rifle is a beast, but I added the Airforce bipod, a couple of Airforce dovetail to weaver rails, an ATN 4K with the external controls and laser range finder / ballistic calculator, the ATN Supernova IR illuminator, a rubber grip sleeve on the pistol grip, a rubber buttcap on the "stock", sling swivels, and an offset mount for a light with a remote switch above the trigger. Now, it's a MONSTER KILLER.

As for the "SS" option . . . WOW. My first shot shocked me by how truly quiet it was. I live outside the city limits and other than the safety concerns with such a big slug and high velocities would consider this "backyard friendly". No where near as loud as a .22 rifle, and LOTS quieter than my .50 black powder rifle. LOL

God help any medium to large predators that come sniffing around my chickens now.

Pros
Quality build, Precision fit and finish, adequate instructions.

Cons
Better packages with essential accessories for one price.

I have the 357 cal ss I can say without a doubt this one is a shooter. I get less than an inch groups at 100 yards with 106 and 120 grain swaged ammo that I make myself. I have taken out to 200 yards with most groups opening to around 4" but im shooting from sticks not a bench rest.

Pros
accurate, powerful

Cons
none

Very nice Airgun, heavy but solid. I’m not a great shot but with the right ammo, can get a pretty tight group at 50 yards.

Pros
Accurate, solidly built

Cons
Heavy

Well guys, this is my second TEXAN SS. First one is .357 cal and I'm so impressed with it's power, accuracy and shoot counts per fill. Make sure to follow instructions when tinkering the power adjuster I'd say. Also experiment with different slug weight to get what you wanted. This .457 isn't a toy so MAKE SURE YOU LOCK IT UP when not in use. Precious and precise piece of engineering I must say enough to sell my other air rifle. And just excitedly as soon it arrived I started to drink so much monster energy drink and coffee then yapping so fast(here we go again..)I..I.. unboxed it, clean the barrel using patches and #9, clean it again, put the pieces together, fill tank with Nomad2, AF bipod, adapters on, ATN scope on, round balls up, steel plated boxes on ground filled with dirt and bricks then layered with used 7 carpet tiles, then targets line up, OMG! Lo and behold everything smacked even bricks turned to rubbles. Just as I said before in the .357 version: (Just imagine I'm talking in your head now, ok! Here we go..) OHHH MY GOD! And I'm talking really hyper fast in your brain now.. This creation of air rifle is SUPER awesome! More than anything I ever owned and more powerful than any air rifles or air guns I ever shot. This .357 cal is so so so so so.. accurate all the way to some distance Mr perfect shot have his jaw dropped. I tried with many different slugs and weight but ended up with some varieties NSA recommended and OMG!! Again! They were right. Shot many birds, smart water bottles, protein bars, bottles of ketchup, bottles of mustard, skunks, bottles of baby powders, amino energy drink containers, cafe du monde tin cans, dillos & dildsoos, sardine cans, instant noodle packs, peptobismols, paper clips that hold my paper target, 7 ronin nails on plywood, hersheys and kit-Kat chocolate, pork ribs are all gone and smacked. Dang..power and accuracy goodness as many said before and proven are true. And that's why I go ahead bought a bigger cal of this version for more smacking fun with whimper targets. Nuff said.. Just buy it bro!!

Pros
Just the 4 words again: lightweight, powerful, accurate, and expensive. More POWER than any other super expensive air rifles that doesn't shoot slugs. This can handle both just make sure it fit.

Cons
Why the cons?! It's none actually except only if someone could come up with sideload magazine even for round balls only would be cool.

I have been looking for a new hunting challenge and this year I found it, Big Bore airgun hunting in Texas. The problem was, I could find some big bore guns, but not the one I was looking for, the Texan SS in .45 caliber. To my surprise, the company rolled some out to the dealers and I immediately jumped on one. Granted, the season was almost over, but I quickly casted some slugs, sighted the gun in and set out on a pig adventure to the ranch. The first morning sit went great, pigs came in and I dropped one on the spot with a shot to the ear. The gun is a little loud and the pigs scattered, but didn't run far enough as I was able to load another slug and drop another at 50-yards.

Awesome smooth shooting gun. Any ammunition I load is handled by this gun with little to no effort. Nothing but bullseye at 25 yards. I am 100% satisfied with Airforce for producing a great airgun. Can't wait to take it on the first deer hunt over the Christmas holiday. I am excited by what my AirForce Texan SS 457 can do!
NOTE: My 22 years old daughter who have never picked up a weapon before shooting my Texan SS scored several bullseye every time we visited the range. She loves how this rifle handles. Can't wait to take it out on the outdoors range soon.

Pros
Well balance and accurate!

Cons
Not enough upgrade options.
