The Texan from AirForce Airguns has been at the forefront of the big bore airgun world'since its release in 2015. Almost since then AirForce has been at work to bring us a suppressed version of the venerable Texan to give the platform just that much more of an edge as the premium option for big bore hunting air rifles.

The Texan SS retains the same solid extruded aluminum frame, the same side lever action, and trigger as the original Texan. You will also find the same 490cc on board air tank and 2 stage trigger. The only major differences feature wise are the Texan SS has a shorter barrel and of course, Air Force's proven sound suppression technology. While this shorter barrel comes at the sacrifice of some power over the un-shrouded version, the ability to shoot such a large caliber round at near silence makes up for it. The Texan SS is still plenty powerful for hunting up to deer sized game and does it at just a whisper.

If you are looking for the ultimate big bore game rifle, the Texan SS is it. Quiet, powerful, reliable, what more can you ask for? When you are ready to take your air gun game to the next level then the Texan SS from AirForce Airguns is ready and willing!

Wait was worth it
April 23, 2019
The Texan SS .457 that I received was everything it was billed to be. Great design, solid construction and quality product. I have only one gripe, the long wait to receive my air gun. The site didn't inform that item was out of stock. Other than that no issues nor concerns. Would recommend AirGun Depot at any time, just work on the delay issues.
ProsAll pros. No issues. Can't wait to take my 1st Whitetail this fall/winter hunting season.

Best in the airgun game
December 10, 2019
Came firing great out of the box. The Hawks scope works great. Spot on accuracy as all the other reviews will state. Very quiet, comparable to a 22 LR or less, with less "snap". Almost non existent recoil. Currently using with a hand pump, which takes up to 20 minutes of good effort to pump to 3000 psi. At least 10 good powerful shots until power drop, and even then still very capable. Not too difficult to source ammo. My primary use is big game hunting.
ProsPowerful, quiet.
ConsLow round count before empty tank.
Best UsesBig game hunting, medium game hunting.

Superb Rifle with one major exception.
October 27, 2019
I have this rifle in .45 cal. I bought it elsewhere because I got tired of months of out-of-stock.

I love this rifle with the exception of one thing. With a straight line architecture (no stock drop - air tank in line with the barrel), there is no space to get a shoulder plant, a cheek plant and see through the scope. I'm a tall guy but with a pretty standard neck length. I have to turn my head sideways to see through the scope. My wife has helped me measure and I need between 4 and 6" of scope rise to have my head fully upright.

The way other straight line rifles such as the AR-15 handle this problem is to put the rear sight up on top of the carry handle - about a 4" rise.

I've searched and haven't found a scope mount with that much rise so I'm talking to a gunsmith about making me a set.

I also bought the ATN electronic scope. Not the stubby one sold here but the full length one that looks like a scope. It is an amazing scope. I just wish I'd had the extra $3k to buy the version with a night vision sensor
ProsHandles and shoots like a firearm. Incites envy in other shooters :-) Very cheap to shoot. Interchangeable barrels are very nice. I have a .30 cal on order Very well made
ConsNot enough scope rise. No picatinny rail on top.
Best UsesHere in the mountains of E. TN, feral hogs are listed as a pest. No season, no bag limit and no license required. With that ATN scope (infrared sensitive, rifle comes with an infrared flashlight that clamps to the BOTTOM Picatinny rail), eye shots are the norm. Also picking a lot of crows out of trees. The elevation compensation built into the ATN scope is wonderful.

Great Gun
September 30, 2019
I ordered my 45 cal. Texas SS about a month ago and was told they was not available until the 15th of October but I received mine on September 27th. They stayed in touch with me to let me know that the item was on back order. I was surprised to get it this early. Itā€™s a great fun and Airgun Depot has been a great company to deal with.
ConsThe price but you get what you pay for and I wanted the best.

Must be a great rifle
September 26, 2019
I ordered this rifle about 2 weeks ago knowing it was on back order. I received an email from them this week telling me the status of my order. This must be a great gun if you stay out of stock. Their customer service is top notch and Iā€™m really looking forward to killing my first deer with a air rifle

.308. I bought this combo about a month ago. I use the Benjamin compressor to fill it (works perfectly). It will drive tacks at 50yds+how much time you put into learning the gun. Iā€™m extremely impressed all around. From 55 grain pellets to 138 grain bullets the accuracy is unreal. The hawk scope is a perfect match. Learn the dots, drive tacks. Iā€™ve shot it out to 85 yards with extreme accuracy (55-138 grain). I know once I put some time in, 150yd shots will be absolutely no problem with the 99-138g VERY VERY impressed. Thank you AIR FORCE. My 7 year old will be dropping deer like flies next year!!! Minimal recoil and extremely quiet.
ConsNone so far

Incredible rifle
January 13, 2019
I am very impressed with this gun! I got a chance to take a nice 8pt this year with it. I'm not shooting common air gun pellets though. I am using 200 grain jacketed hollow points made by Hornady in the.45. The round is designed for reloading for hand gun use, and expands at lower velocities, however this gun really likes them. I also experimented with some muzzle loader rounds. They worked very well also. I chose the Hornady because of price and quantity. According to the diameter and weight you can fine tune the rifle to accommodate different rounds which is nice. I have the hawk scope sighted in 1" high at 50 yards and it's clear as any I've ever had. Shots are within 1" groups. The buck I shot was at 75 yards and it hit right on target. Was a clean pass thru. Buck ran 25 yards, never left my sight. Recoil is bare minimum. My 12yr old son loves to shoot it. It's a heafty investment but not at all disappointing. I wish it came with a sling or at least a way to mount one. Definitely not a plinker. This one is for the serious Hunter. I'm planning on getting another for the wife this summer! Excellent gun!!!! Perfect performance!!!
ProsPower, accuracy, large choice of bullets.
ConsNo way to mount a sling

Great Combo!
December 22, 2018
I recently bought the AirForce Texan SS, Hawke Scope Combo, in .45 Caliber.

I was amazed on the quality of the gun, solid, simple and functional design.

I bought several types of ammo to do my own testing, used the Hawke app to select on the chart the "sweet spot" of a distance to set it based on weight , speed, and ammo's Ballistic Coefficient, by the way there is no much info on the BC's of .45 ammo.

Additional to this combo, buy a Bipod, and a "scuba" type tank, this rifle needs continuos charges after every 5 or 6 shoots to keep it a zeroed in.

ProsPower, Construction, Materials, Simple to operate, nice safety. looks cool!
ConsNo Case included. Air Tank only enough for 4 to 6 precise shoots.

Texan SS in 45 cal
August 31, 2018
I just received the Texan SS, so far is everything I was hoping for. Much more silent than its big brother. I have been shooting it with 250 hollow points and 300 grain flat heads so far. T 300 flat heads seem to be harder hitting but the 250 grain hollow point give a much more accurate shot without having to compensate for drop. I was happy with the 45 Texan I had but way to loud even being on top of a hill out away from most people. The SS is great when I shoot it all I here is the hammer spring going off. Very happy man.

Texas SS in 457
August 18, 2018
Just received the Texas SS and it is great. so great I do not care how long I waited for it. I have the Texas 457 without sound suppression and I love it, but even though I live in rural area it is a bit load. The SS is as good if not better for different reasons, the SS hits hard over a long distance without having to use such giant pellets. The SS has plenty of power to bring down a large animal with much less noise. Love it its accurate right out of the box but will check back after some scope tuning.
ProsAll yes, great gun you will love it.
ConsNone, except if Texas Air guns is going to put out such a great gun they should be stocked and ready to fulfill everyone's dreams of a great air gun.

Awesome Airgun!
March 8, 2018
I have been shooting both cartridge and muzzleloader firearms for over 50 years, and reloading cartridges for most of that time. I recently jumped into the world of airguns with the AirForce TexanSS. When the Texan arrived I was amazed; I had never seen an airgun of such amazing capabilities and haven't shot any of my firearms in the couple months I've had it. It is rather heavy, but I installed a small bipod that helps when shooting off the bench. I have found the TexanSS to be very accurate, having bench-fired it out to 100 yds. It's very consistent for the first several shots until the tank pressure drops below 2000psi (about 5 shots with 250-gr. bullets). By recharging when the pressure drops to 2000, good velocity and accuracy can be maintained. This is a by-product of AirForce's use of the same size air tank as on their smaller caliber airguns; the TexanSS is considerably larger and heavier and would have benefited by having a somewhat larger air tank. And being heavier it might have also benefited by having sling swivels or attach points, which it does not have. This airgun uses a LOT of air, and a plentiful air supply is a must - I recommend a compressor or large SCUBA tank - or both - if you plan to do much bench shooting. I tried a little 90 cu in carbon-fiber-wrapped auxillary air tank, but it only provides about 3 recharges of the Texan - maybe 15 shots compared to the 150 shots the same air provides in the Condor .22 cal. airgun. Being a reloader of .45 Colt and .45-70 cartridges, I have a supply of plain lead bullets - the only acceptable ammunition for the TexanSS - and have tried weights from 180 gr. through 400 gr. with all performing very well due to the TexanSS's air metering system that automatically adjusts each shot based on the fired bullet's weight. A frequently-overlooked benefit of a 45cal airgun is that when target shooting one can see the bullet holes without a spotting scope - something you can't do with the smaller calibers! I am thoroughly happy with my new TexanSS and look forward to giving it an extended bench test when warmer weather arrives. I would readily recommend it to anyone wanting a quality, big-bore, powerful, quiet air rifle!
ProsHandles a wide range of bullet weights. Accurate. Highest quality construction. Well-engineered and constructed. Excellent trigger. Muzzle energy of a .45acp firearm. Quiet - the integral suppressor works well.
ConsButtplate attached with only one screw comes loose frequently (some Locktite might cure that). Very few shots before needing recharging. Ammunition more expensive than small-bore airguns.
Best UsesHunting hogs, javalinas, coyotes, deer, bowling pins, gallon-size and 2-liter water jugs.
