Top Picks
With Athlon Optics 8-34x56 the main event is First Focal Plane.  With First Focal Plane scopes, holdover adjustments go the way of the dinosaurs.  No longer do you have to do math to place accurate shots at varied distances. When you zoom, the illuminated mil-dot reticle zooms too!  Forget adjustments, just ZOOM AND BOOM!  If that wasn’t good enough, these hardy scopes are trail ready, with aircraft aluminum tubes and fogproof, shockproof and waterproof construction (shooting underwater not recommended for accuracy). Once you shoot a first focal plane scope, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without this feature!

I've never really understood why optics should be so prohibitively expensive. The Arogs SF is a good example of a very nice scope that has everything you need and is not unreasonably priced. The glass remains mostly clear throughout the focal range. The reticle is excellent and detailed without being obtrusive. All in all for those needing a scope for medium to long distance, this is a great choice and a good comparative value.

Pros
First focal plane scopes are far and away simpler and more effective than second focal plane scopes at distance. This scope gather light very well and the glass remains clear in the greatest majority of the focal picture at all magnifications.

Cons
Could use a large side wheel for paralax adjustment.
