Can't be beat for the price!

I bought this as a back up for a Gamo SpecOp and a Gamo Hornet. This was less expensive, lighter and IMHO more powerful than both of those. I replaced the scope with a 3-9x40 cheapo from the Gamo SpecOps and no crow within 60 yards is safe. Really a great starter springer. Wish I'd never wasted the $$ on the Gamos. I'll take this piece every time. The small diameter barrel makes it look shoddy, but don't be fooled. It performs.
EXCELLENT bang for the buck. Very Light for a springer. Very tight groups at 60 yards and maintains crow knockdown power with hunter type pellets. Break in time is minimal.
Has a gawd-awful twangy sound. Not loud but sounds like a Red Ryder. Sure doesn't hurt the performance though. Ask any crow within 60 yards. Oh sorry you can't. He's DEAD! Unless you're shooting within 15 yards the hard sights are just useless. You MUST scope this rifle!

This was my first break barrel pellet gun, and I absolutely love it. I use it very frequently, and it is great for anything up to hunting small game such as rabbits and squirrels.
Accurate, and powerful.

Great started gun!!

I bought this gun for my first break barrel rifle. I love it. My buddy really liked mine so he ordered a Gamo Hornet. I find that mine is quieter when shooting PBA ammo, which i like. This gun is very accurate. One shot, one kill when hunting cottontail rabbits. Love it. My trigger was fine, but I'm a junky for upgrading things. I threw on a charlie da tuna CBR trigger, which gave it a lighter pull.
Cheap, reliable, and accurate.

Solid and well built
March 2, 2012
Other than being a bit on the loud side, louder than my 22 rifle, I was quite impressed. First shot sorta startled me. Wasnt ready for the loudness. Would not recommend for backyard plinking. Your neighbors may complain unless your in a very rural area.

a bit loud

Buy this gun. You will not regret it.
August 26, 2011
Got mine in the mail yesterday. Shot about 30 rounds through it with open sights. Shot well but limited by my abilities. Mounted the scope this morning and shot another 100 rounds. It took about 20 or so shots to get the scope dialed. Now I am shooting 1/2" groups at 40 yards and popping soda cans up to 70 yard. By the way that is with Crosman EX which is just a good cheap (lead) pellet. This gun shoots hard and is very accurate. Some people complained about the trigger but mine is smooth as glass. I do recommend adjusting it for a shorter second stage pull and proper breathing is key. Also I have seen that some people complained about the scope not staying set or working loose but I again mine works just fine. Perhaps they need to put a little more muscle on the allen wrench when mounting that sucker. Sure its not the quality you get when you spend $100 but it is of good quality and great for plinking or hunting small game. This rifle combo is just plain awesome. For $110 bucks it should be a no-brainer. Shoot one and you will wonder why they don't charge double. It would still be worth it.

Ok. Right when i got this gun it was something special. Took it out. Sighted it in. Next day shot 56 birds. Half of the kills were head shots. This gun will dominate any other break barrel airgun. This gun shot through 20 cans all lined up. This gun is BEAST And a WORKHORSE

great for the price, drops birds, if you shoot pop cans you cant even tell you hit it because its so fast. only complaints is that the sights are slightly mishapen so its hard to hit a bird past 20 yards with it, also (this was a manufactoring error) the rail that the scope gos on was crooked but gander mountians gun smith fixed it for free and now it works great!!

crosman phantom

Bought this to revisit my youth. Practiced for a month on and off, different pellets and distances. Have taken two squirrels with it at 50-60 feet each, i did replace the scope with a barska 12 x 40. This is a hard hitting little rifle. Recently bought a ruger air magnum, which is more powerful than this. But this gun is good for reasonable hunting distances, 80-90 feet. For me the crosman premier hollow points shot best out of this rifle. I used them on both squirrels and it dropped them dead, lots of damage. All air guns are loud, heavier pellets cut that noise down alot, compared to my ruger this thing whispers. Id recoment this to some one that wants to get started or likes to hunt small game. Head shots, head shots, dont go til you can do that.

Good gun, but not GREAT
February 23, 2010
I'm a target shooter and bought this gun for my wife (her first). Its a nice sturdy gun, not too heavy, well made, and is surprisingly accurate for a "cheap" air rifle. It took a bit to get it broken in, the breakbarrel was pretty stiff at first and very hard to cock... but its much better now. I'm used to higher-end guns and while this rifle is a great value it can't really be compared to more "serious' air rifles, but its also not as finicky as some of my "fancy" guns... just grab it and shoot. Despite some adjustments and plenty of shooting, the trigger is still kinda stiiff, I like a smoother trigger pull. With some practice I learned the "feel" of this gun, and now shoot confidently and accurately. Its not quiet, and has a bit more recoil than I expected. I'd recommend this gun to someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money, or wants a mid-level upgrade from an entry level airgun without spending $200 or more. The scope is surprisingly decent and was easy to sight. It does have some power and punch with lead pellets, PBA pellets scream. This rifle has become a household favorite for shooting yard rats at 30-50 feet.. I haven't missed yet, and it's killed every rat quickly and humanely. One note about the recoil... this rifle DOES have enough recoil to break a laser sight from the recoil shock - I've gone through 2 lasers with this gun. If you want to use a laser, use a cheap one, or be sure it has shock absorbtion/isolation. I'd expect that it would also knock a fine scope out of calibration - that said, the included scope has been just fine. 5 stars for value - 3 stars for the trigger & recoil - for an average of 4 stars.

Awesome Airgun!!!
October 15, 2009
This is my third airgun and by far the best. It will blow right through a tin can without knocking it over. That's how fast it is. This airgun is very accruate, sturdy, powerful, fast, and the scope is awesome. If you use raptor velocity gold pellets it sounds identical to a .22 cal.

Great Gun
July 21, 2009
This is one great gun. Im shooting small homegrown apples at 35 yards without the scope! The scope is actually really nice for the price you pay for the gun. The gun is easy to cock and load. Ive had it for about a month, and I can reload and be ready to shoot in 15 seconds! Its also really powerful. Killed a crow in one shot. Got a sparrow from 15 yards in the head. Deadly accurate, superbly powerful, and a great value!

Powerful & fun

I bought this gun from my local Big 5 last night. immediately i brought it home and mounted scope. filled some empty milk jugs and cans and had fun. plenty powerful, nice looking and seems accurate. was able to hit my targets from ~30yds out. as soon as i get the scope zeroed in, i will enjoy even more. so far have fired ~40 to 50 rounds of the crossman pointed pellets. buddy was totally impressed w/quality over his older pump action and enjoyed squeezing a few too. A definite "buy" for anyone looking for a .177 air gun.

awesome accuracy
June 4, 2009
I was hesitant to accept that breaking the barrel to cock it would eventually throw off the accuray but... At 6 yards (after an unintentional dry fire) it held the spread to one inch. Standing I was ablr to bullseye a starling at 26 yards. Yep, I measured it because I was so astounded. Take off the factory sights, put a fake muzzle brake on it (to pump it easier), sight in the scope. That's all there is to it! AWESOME! ! ! !

Quality should start with C for Crosman.
March 27, 2009
I have recently just purchased this air rifle from my local Big 5 Sporting Goods store for $130, and it has been well worth the money. The styling/construction is excellent, it's powerful, all black finish (tactical), sturdy, and pretty accurate. The only gripe I have is that the fiber optic sights are made with plastic that can break with a certain amount of force. But they are however useful for aiming without the scope. The plastic/composite material used on the rifle stock (body) is very sturdy in composition, almost similar to a type of wood in appearance, texture, and weight. So this might be a plus for hunter(s) that are looking for a wood stock, but cannot afford the wood stock price. That is my opinion none the less. The scope can take quite a bit of time to sight in, but once it is then you're good to go. Upon shooting the rifle for the first couple of times it was loud and had quite a bit of recoil, as well as being hard to cock (barrel). After shooting roughly about 50-65 shots, mine broke in fine. So now it shoots quietly (a slight cling), and it's easier to cock now. Overall this is a good rifle, it's well built, it has the power and accuracy compared to other rifles above its price range and it has a nice tactical look to it as well. I'm not here to persuade any one into buying this rifle, but merely to share my experiences with it. And it has kept up with most of my expectations for a good rifle.

incredible rifle
January 2, 2009
this is the best pellet rifle 4 the money. shot 7 squirrels in an hour. with pba ammo, so much more powerful and suprisingly accurate. no lie, i was squirrel hunting and saw a deer at about 25 yards, and i thaught id go 4 an eye shot, just 4 the heck of it. attached a bidod, and with the scope, wich is excellent by the way, shot it right in the eye. it ran of corse, leaving a very thick blood trail. i followed it 4 about 125 yards, and saw it. it bled out in a patch of grass. i had venicin 4 dinner that night. incredible weapon

this is my second review of the 1000x, and again I prefer it over my dad's 22. rifle with banana clip.this is a great gun and has the perfect amount of kick, about that of a 22.which makes you smile with acceptance. this gun can kill a cyote which is not a suprise for a gun of this high quality. it has great penatration, and will strate up "drop" a rabbit. wow this is the gun to buy, weather you are doing shot practice, or hunting a TURKEY!!! chalk one up for crosman.

April 8, 2008
This gun is absolutely awesome. Definitely one of the best pellet guns that I have ever shot. It is very easy to reload and is very accurate. After mounting on the scope and siting it in, I killed bird after bird after bird. Some at short distances and some at long distances. I highly recommend this gun to those who enjoy killing varmints and small game hunting. Also, hallow point pellets work well with this gun and are extremely effective for killing animals.

Great gun at a great price, way cheaper than any of the other 1000fps break barrels yet it still maintains the quality of the higher priced models. If your thinkin about getting a air rifle, this is it!

Shooting tight groups (up and to the right) just out of the box. zeroed scope in 12 shots. open sights havent tried to zero yet. loud. hope that dies down. very powerfull. wadcutters go through laminate wood flooring and then 2-3 inches of phone book. have dragon claw bipod on order. hoping the harmonics will not be affected. looking at bsa flashlight/laser combo as well. the synthectic stock is good quality. cocking usually requires a slap on the barrel to get it started. great gun for the price.

when i was first looking to buy an air gun i thought this was nice but it would be to loud and to slow with the single shot action... its none of those the single shot action is wayyyy faster than if u had one of those little pump guns. also the gun scared me at first because the first 5 or so shots sound like a 22 and white smoke goes every were, but after that the gun is pretty quit! orver all this gun has great power great accuracy and has an awsome look to it! i love my crosman phantom100x.

Hard shooting rifle but has a little kick that can cause you to miss a little. Scope is ok but plan on replacing. Overall really nice rifle that will shoot as good as a much higher prices rifle.

Does this rifle come with scope mounts, or is it only the model with the scope included?
By Staff on January 9, 2012

It come with the rifle, scope, and scope mounts
By Joe Dz from Harvard, MA on February 6, 2012

What I think you are asking is does the rifle have the mounts or do you have to buy the scoped version to get the mounts? The rifle has 11mm dovetail grooves. If you buy the version w/o a scope, you must buy a 11mm dovetail mount for your scope. I recommend a single piece mount for the Phantom. If you buy the version with a scope, it is complete.

what pellets should i get for this?

By Staff on August 21, 2012

I would get lead pellets. I would look at Beeman, RWS, Stoeger and Benjamin pellets.

Can this gun kill small game in one shot to the mid section/stomach?

This gun could easily kill small game if you shoot them within 20-25 yards.

Is this air gun reliable and good for pest hunting? Is it good for the money? And what ammunition is most effective?
By Staff on April 13, 2012

This is a nice reliable airgun. for hunting, a 22 caliber is usually a bit better but if you are only hunting small game, this will be perfectly fine.
As far as pellets, I recommend hollow point shots.
