The new Marlin Cowboy, synonymous with Annie Oakley--"Little Miss Sure Shot"-- is styled for shooters who appreciate the nostalgia of old-west Cowboy Action Shooters. The Marlin Cowboy is classic in its look and feel. Sized for youngsters, it’s ideal for entry-level shooters and intended to satisfy the demands of young shooters at any skill level.

The innovative, ratcheted lever helps protect young shooters from the annoying lever snap-back noticed on some other lever-action rifles. The ratcheted lever remains in position until it’s fully cocked before allowing it to gently return to the stock--no matter how far it’s cocked. This BB air rifle is both lightweight and dependable, making it the right choice for developing lifelong shooting and marksmanship skills and for teaching safety.

just a fun rifle to use and shoot

This gun brings back the memories of being a kid and getting your first Bob gun. It is just a basic, have fun gun that can be appreciated by young and old alike. The only reason it did not get five stars, was because I feel they did the gun a great injustice by scrimping on a few cents and putting a plastic cocking lever on it instead of steel like the older guns had.

Pros
Just a basic fun gunn

Cons
Plastic cocking handle

I tried zeroing this rifle at about 40' and despite adjusting the sights I could not get it to fire less than approx. 3' high at 40'. Penetration of a cardboard box at 15' is good for one side with the bb left in the box. When the amount of BB's gets low you have to rock the rifle up and down (just like the old Daisies) to get it to load.

Pros
Price and construction.

Cons
Just as inaccurate as the old Daisy air rifles of the 50's.

It looks more like a real lever-action firearm than a toy. The wood stock is blond-finished with visible wood grain. The major assemblies are bolted together. Because it looks and feels like it's built well, I gave this little airgun more of a chance than many other reviewers. I'm glad I did! Now that I've swabbed out the crap they greased the shot tube with at the factory and run about 500 bbs through it, my accuracy with it is very close to my Daisy Red Ryder and it keeps getting better. It's got a bigger punch that makes backyard (and indoor) plinking MUCH more satisfying. Today, I shot a couple #2 pencils with it from 15 feet. Now, that's fun!

Pros
Power! I don't have a chrony to measure it, but I shoot them one after the other and can tell from the damage inflicted on the target that the Marlin is stronger than the Daisy. Rips through aluminum cans, buries a lot deeper into a telephone book backstop. Classic lever action is fast and feels natural. Competition is good! Daisy had changed the cocking lever to plastic; I guess Red Ryders were lasting too long. Then Crosman strikes a deal with Marlin to sell a "Cowboy" bb carbine, and they make the lever steel again. Buy it so Crosman will keep selling it. I'm getting another.

Cons
It's true that it's harder to cock than the Daisy, but that's why it thumps instead of plinks. The sights seem to be harder to use than the Daisy, judging by the number of people who say that can't hit with it. To me, the front post is a bit thin and the rear notch is a bit wide. The trigger pull could be bit lighter. But, I can hit a pencil with it at 15 ft, so... More risk of ricochet due to higher velocity. No kidding; please wear eye protection!!

this is a fun little bb gun. all the pieces are wood and metal, a little small. the lever is extremely heavy, would be hard for a child to use

I am curious if it is a good bb gun overall. I may get it for my cousin jakes birthday. He is going to be 10. I want his brother alex to be able to shoot it. They are both very small, about 4'2 on average. They don't have the best judgment ever but okay judgement/maturity. Would it be safe a safe for them and a suitable size?

asked Zachary Williams

Yes it would be safe but with close supervision it should be treated like any other weapon.

mike

Can it shoot pellets of 177. Cal too?

asked Brendan

No. .177 BBs only.

Douglas from USA

this rifle shoots only bb's.this rifle is basically the same as the daisy red ryder, unfortunately the newer daisys have been cheapened greatly since the one i bought for my son 20 years ago. the marlin has raised the bar and built a very solidly built rifle. my grandson who is 7 loves it and can operate it with no problems. has more power than the daisy...great little rifle for the beginning shooter to learn safe operation of a fire arm....

Garry from USA

No, 177 cal BB's only.

BillK

Is this stock short enough for a 6 year old of average size?

asked Barbara

I would think it should be and it is light enough. The tail stock is 10.5" with the overall rifle measuring approx. 35".

Bill K

Absolutely. My four year old can almost hold the stock on his shoulder by himself. A six year old should do just fine. Remember to provide close supervision and to treat it with the same respect and safety as with any firearm. These lessons learned early on will serve them well through life.

Douglas from USA

I personally feel that it would be of okay size but the action of cocking it may be tough for a six year old.

Wiley from USA

Where do you load the BB's?

asked elijah from USA

Does it come with ammo?

asked paula

Ammo will need to be bought separately. It doesn't come with any. Don't forget to buy safety glasses too.
