The Ruger Mark I shoots .177 cal. alloy pellets at 600 fps. This break barrel pistol also features a contoured grip, a spring piston and a rifled barrel. The pistol is very easy to cock with the included cocking assist handle which can be left on while shooting. This is a very nice pistol for the price. We spent some time with it on our range and were pleasantly surprised with how the pistol performed. The pistol feels very good in your hand and the weight is just about right.

You can plink for a long time without getting tired. You can also mount a scope or red dot on this pistol as it has dovetail rails on it. We did notice a lot of excess oil in the barrel so we recommend you clean the barrel before shooting.

Great gun for the price

Plenty of power for a spring powered air pistol. Cocking is an effort. Sights are adequate. I need the cocking extension to comfortably cock mine. If left on, it degrades the accuracy. This is this guns biggest draw back. It does have that spring gun recoil, and that does hurt the accuracy some. It has good power for a pistol, which keeps you limited to small game hunting. I do not use this on rabbits or squirrels as it is not accurate enough.
ProsCost to power
ConsAccuracy Ease of cocking Sights Harsh recoil

Good quality; good power; good accuracy.

I bought this Ruger Mark I along with the Benjamin Trail NP and the (not-so-good) Gamo P900. While I like the Benjamin and its Nitro Piston a little more, the Ruger has similar accuracy and almost as much power. As for shooting too low, it depends on the distance and on the pellets; at 10 Meters, some pellets group low, some group high, and some are right in the 10 ring. Sight in with different pellets for different types of targets at different distances.
ProsA solid substantial pistol; well made.
ConsGas piston technology may be better, but this is a good spring piston option.

Mark 1 refurbished
February 21, 2015
Well after all the reviews on accuracy I have to say the factory tech who refurbished this one must have listened. The one I got was a little left of target, three clicks and I'm zeroed in. Everything seems just fine to me. I too have a 15 plus air gun collection and this one ranks right up there.
Lighter then Benjamin NP I leave the cock assist on both and hit bulls eye with proper shooting
ProsCheap in cost power

nice airgun
October 16, 2014
This is a nice pistol that shoots well and is easy to cock. I have found that leaving the cocking piece on the gun at all times gives you the extra leverage needed to easily cock the gun and does not affect accuracy. The pistol I received shoots better than I do, however the groups are quite low. I attempted to remedy this by lowering the front sight but it is still shooting low so I fitted it with a red dot scope and this addition makes it easy to hit lolly-pops at about 15 feet off hand.
Prosergonomic grip, easy to cock, accurate and fun to shoot
Consshoots low and it is a little on the heavy side however it weighs about as much as a full size center fire hand gun so it is good for practice

Mark 1
April 29, 2014
First pistol I received had to be returned because of non functional action. Was returned and the replacement arrived today. The new one had a crack in the area of the hinge but did not affect the action. It shot low as stated in other reviews. It is powerful and should be usable as is. Ruger (Umarex) needs to watch their quality control closer.
ProsPower, weight
ConsQuality control

Got a screw loose...
March 11, 2014
After cleaning both Ruger Mark one air pistols. I test fired them in my basement range. They shot extremely low as has been stated in other reviews. I noticed that both pistols had a similar defect.
Both refurbished pistols I purchased had loose screws. The grip screws were so loose that you could turn them with your little finger. By placing it in the hole of the grip and rotating your finger. The barrel screw was loose enough that if you brushed it with your fingertip before removing the grips it would rotate.

After un-mounting the grip and tightening the barrel screw putting Loctite blue on the grip screws and after remounting the grip. I torqued the screws down. The gunshot nearly to point of aim. This may help others who have complained about the inability to adjust the sights enough to correct point of aim.

I don't have enough pellets through either gun to check for accuracy. I have not adjusted the sights, and will not do so until the pistol settles down. The groups do appear to be closing to an acceptable level. But this is very early.

They appear to have good power. Once the dieseling stops it will be easier to evaluate accuracy. But they seem to have the potential for a good plinker maybe more.
ProsPower, accuracy?
ConsMore attention needed proper assembly. Good gun suffers from poor attention to detail.

Fun but flawed
January 31, 2014
The pistol shoots well but sights are difficult at best to adjust. Consistently shoots low with not enough adjustment to correct. Fun hand gun , shoots hard but does have that flaw
ProsSolid build, like the sights
ConsTerrible elevation adjustment, would recommend with a warning about sight

Ruger Mark I Air Pistol
July 22, 2013
I purchased a refurbished Mark I as an afterthought when ordering a Ruger Blackhawk about a year ago and do not regret the purchase. I've had a blast shooting anything within 10 yards of me with relative accuracy.
I recently broke the cocking lever and ordered a replacement part from Umarex. Piece of advice if you need to replace your cocking lever - do not remove the barrel assembly from the stock! I did and also removed the trigger housing from the barrel and all the pins fell out... Took me a week to get her back together correctly (plus this voids any warranty).
Besides the above mishap, I have had no issues with the pistol. It came supplied with a steel weaver rail machined in to the top of the barrel (where a competitor's is only able to be scoped if you purchase additional parts), as well as a very nice set of fiber optic open sites. The pistol is fun to shoot, looks cool, is of otherwise decent quality, and is quite affordable (especially if it's been refurbished).
Prosavailability of repair parts from UMAREX. Feels solid. quality materials 3/8" weaver rail included fiber optic open sites
Consbroke the cocking lever before the first tin of pellets were used. No local repair or service location nearby.

The ONLY airgun I wish I'd never purchased
August 17, 2012
I have over 20 air guns, all of which are relatively inexpensive and many of which are refurbs and have required TLC. I say this so that you understand that I don't mind working with a gun to get it shooting right. I bought my Mark I new at a different store and I have never been able to hit anything accurately with it no matter what I do to it. I tyried scopes and adjusting the sights and tuning it and finally just gave up and took it apart for potential parts gun for other things. Biggest waste of time ever. This is only AG I have ever regretted getting.

Refurb was Sweet Deal

Really nice, well balanced pellet popper, I can use it on tin cans all day and am never left unsatisfied. It has a strong spring, so get used to that, but for the price, there is none finer than this.
ProsAccurate Strong, Simple to use
ConsI wish I had more of these !

Rugged and accurate
July 24, 2012
One advantage, other than the low price, of buying a refurbished gun is, instead of a clam shell, it comes in a nice box for storage. I installed a red dot sight on mine, and after cleaning the bore with dry patches, I was shooting tight groups. It did diesel for a while. There is a trigger travel adjustment just in front of the trigger. I screwed it down until it was tight, though I'd appreciate a few more turns. If there's anything standing in the way of accuracy, it's the trigger; it's smooth, and breaks nicely, but it takes a bit of effort to pull it back. I'm hoping it gets easier with use. This pistol is well made, and the grip assembly, held by 3 screws, is made from a sturdy plastic. The safety is not automatic, which I enjoy. It doesn't seem to be fussy about pellets, shooting consistently regardless of what I use. The cocking aid fits tight to the muzzle, which favors leaving it in place while shooting. All in all, it's a fine, fun pistol to shoot. The one I received looks brand new.

Decent gun, Clean it.
July 5, 2012
I got it new from Walmart. Two of them broke on me. This was when it first came out I have since bought my brother in law one. I had accuracy issues the brother in law shoots it same hole on the paper over and over so it will do as much as you can make it do at 30 feet. It has a bit of power and a decent kick. Clean it well. I clean both of mine (mine and the one I gave as a gift). They were filled with some light machine oil and even with cleaning dieseling was unavoidable.

ConsClean it.

Ruger Refurbished Air Pistol
June 22, 2012
I ran out of elevation on the rear sight. I am at the end of the threads to raise the rear sight. The glow dots are pointing down at a 45 degree angle. I have to aim 1 1/2 - 2" up to hit the target at 10 meters. The front sight is too high for the rear sight and there is no more elevation adjustment that can be dialed in.
ProsPrice and quality.
ConsSights and adjustment are not quality

Prosit smokes like a real gun

Great Price For A Powerful Air Pistol
May 2, 2012
I have been very happy with this break barrel air pistol right out of the box. I shot close to 100 shots with it the day I received it. I have an indoor airgun range in my garage and an outdoor range with shooting stations at 10, 20, 30, and 100 feet. This pistol is extremely accurate at 100 feet using the open sights or a red dot scope. I have had the pistol for a couple of weeks now and have shot another 300+ shots with it. A great plinker - No problems at all, just fun-fun-fun!
ProsNice power. It destroys any small breakable targets-bottle caps, cans, plastic action figures. Just plain fun to shoot.
ConsNot really a dislike, because I like the power generated by the spring - but the recoil is quite strong. If you put a sight or scope on it, make sure it is designed to take the strong recoil.

Ruger Mark I

Great high powered pistol, fantastic price, 3/8" dovetail allows for scope, sights come with it are fiber optic and very easy to see and adjust. well balanced pistol. Great for target shooting or for plinking.
ProsGreat quality air gun at a fantastic price. I am considering buying another of the same model.
Consstrong kick, doesn't bother me, can be a little jarring at first.

I just got this today and ran about 100rds through it. The rear sight leaves a lot to be desired and the screws all need to be tightened and have locktite on them.

The weight is pretty good as is the balance. I managed to hit soda cans at about 12 yards and I think with a decent red dot or scope it would do much better. Cocking effort is avarage for a break barrel gun and the cocking aid really helps.
ProsBalance, weight, shoots hard. price seems ok for plinking
ConsLong, heavy, trigger pull with a lot of creep. Rear sight leaves a LOT to be desired Screws HAVE GOT to be tightened and have locktite, they come loose extremely easy.

Refurbished Ruger Mark l air pistol .177 cal- 600 fps
April 19, 2012
This pistol is fun to shoot. My friends where surprised as will. easy to cock and load rounds. Good power for hand spring gun. The only issue was the rear site adjustment. We ran out of travel on the windage adjustment. Easy fix was to install a BSA red dot. Took 5 shot to lock in the red dot site.
ProsLots of fun to shoot. Don't have to mess with CO2 cartridges.
ConsRear site adjustment. Had replace it with BSA red dot.

Good air-pistol for the price
March 31, 2012
This pistol has the same problem all cheaper air guns have. The trigger is really bad. It's 2 stage too and takes some getting used to. There is a screw to adjust the first stage but it really isn't long enough to provide much of a difference. This gun is accurate, pretty powerful, and has good range, but the trigger pull is crazy long. I'd describe it's loudness as "medium".
ProsShort Barrel Accuracy Decent Power
ConsCocking the short barrel. The extension it comes with is cumbersome, no where to put it when shooting and easy to forget to take off. The trigger pull is crazy long.
