The Texan from AirForce Airguns has been at the forefront of the big bore airgun world'since its release in 2015. Almost since then AirForce has been at work to bring us a suppressed version of the venerable Texan to give the platform just that much more of an edge as the premium option for big bore hunting air rifles. The Texan SS retains the same solid extruded aluminum frame, the same side lever action, and trigger as the original Texan. You will also find the same 490cc on board air tank and 2 stage trigger. The only major differences feature wise are the Texan SS has a shorter barrel and of course, Air Force's proven sound suppression technology. While this shorter barrel comes at the sacrifice of some power over the un-shrouded version, the ability to shoot such a large caliber round at near silence makes up for it. The Texan SS is still plenty powerful for hunting up to deer sized game and does it at just a whisper. If you are looking for the ultimate big bore game rifle, the Texan SS is it. Quiet, powerful, reliable, what more can you ask for? When you are ready to take your air gun game to the next level then the Texan SS from AirForce Airguns is ready and willing!

Finding the right ammo is a bit of a chore, start at medium and go heavier till you find the right one for your application.

Pros
Great gun, easy to operate, adjust and very accurate with the right ammo.

Cons
I wish it came with a carbon fiber tank and a better valve.

This is my first ever air gun, I have been looking at this product for a while. I bit the bullet and purchased this combo. First day shooting it I am very excited to finally own one. If you don't have a PNP compressor my suggestion is to purchase the JTS compressor. I had it hooked up to a spare battery that I charged night before, compressor did its job flawlessly. I got to shoot 4 times with the 300gr pellets after that it reached 2000psi had to fill up tank to 3000psi. with the JTS compressor took 8 minutes to fill to 3000psi from 2000psi. First time to fill 3000psi 13 minutes roughly. The video attached is my first shot with the Texan SS.

Pros
I was really excited when I got the Airforce Texan SS in the 457. When it arrived, I was like what did I just get, being this is my only big bore air rifle. Assembly was really easy, and I read the instructions over and over making sure everything would work. It did just that after getting the JTS compressor. It's amazingly quiet shooting the 300 gr pellets. (PY-P-1241) To me its light weight, and I can easily saddle or climber hunt with it. The scope is amazing the IR on this scope is sharp and clear. The Combo package comes with everything you need to setup the scope. Once reading the instructions I was setup in less than ten minutes. The Airforce Texan SS is totally awesome, powerful, hard hitting with 300 gr pellet, fun to shoot, great hunting option in urban environment, and in my view totally worth the investment for deer, wild hogs, and coyotes.

Cons
Only thing I would suggest is having mounts to attach a rifle sling instead of doing a DYI configuration. That way avoids the possibility of air rifle falling to the ground when climbing to hunting height while using a saddle or climber (hasn't happen to me)

AF Rifles are a quality made in the USA... With the best warranty in the Industry. I have never needed it... But its great knowing they stand behind what they sell.

Pros
Power & amazing accuracy..having the Texan SS in both 30 cal and 45 cal I couldn't be happier.

Cons
I love a single shot rifle.... Back to the basics. One and Done. I think they should however have a open mind to a semi-auto platform!

I owned an airforce condor back in the day. And though it wasn't as accurate as my rifles, either, it was vastly superior to this. Not even close to the same class. So ya, either mine is trash, or the design is poo without a tether. Not sure which it is.

Pros
It's beautiful and really well thought out aesthetically. Not terribly loud, either.

Cons
It is either one of the most inaccurate airguns I've seen in my life, or I've got a dud, or it's un-fricken-believably picky about ammo. I'm on my 4th ammo, trying to find something that does less than a 6 inch spread at 50 yards. With my 300 blackout, at 200 yards with subsonics and a suppressor, I get a pattern 1/6th the diameter of this airgun shooting at 50 yards. People doing reviews often overlook the common sense approach to this. Not all of us are hooking up to a tether. We just want to see we can get 3 pellets in a tight pattern and that's good enough for any hunt you'd want. But without a tether (or perhaps again there is something wrong with mine), you will get your first shot shooting 5 inches low and to the right, and the next two will be next to each other, but left and down by an inch, then if you go for a fourth, it will swing right or left, or low. Heck, sometimes even high! Unbelievably bad performance.

Long wait times for a good reason

Pros
Power and low noise. Plus, it is not an ATF controlled item. Thanks to AGD for supporting a new market for quality air rifles. Lastly, if buying a new Airgun keep one thing in mind, AGD is beholden to the manufacturers timely as far as how fast you receive your order. Myself being a new air gun customer, these items are in such huge demand that it takes a long time to receive your order. Myself, I prefer a well made platform that is not a rush job and coming from a foreign(China) country that skimps on everything. Once you receive your order I believe that you are getting a well made American product or an ally (Sweden), with quality being at the top of their list for their customers. Be patient and you won't be disappointed plus, you are buying AMERICAN.

Cons
can't think of one.

The order process is quick and delivery is just as fast, there was a back order on my rifle but once made they had it to me within a couple of days

Pros
The look, the weight is just amazing. The Hawke sight is outstandingly clear

Cons
The price is a bit much but for something like this to do what it claims I had to find out for myself, one thing I did change was I added the bipod

Airgun Depot customer service so far has failed to return any of my phone calls or emails for 4 days. Quality product with questionable customer service. Order from someone else. They don’t seem to care. Ruined my upcoming shooting vacation I planned for my new SS .357.

Pros
When it worked it was amazing, accurate, quiet and fun to shoot. If not for customer service I would have rated the gun itself a 5 star.

Cons
Air cylinder leaks in just one month.

Pros
I love the power, looks and ease of operation. It shoots through the boards I've used as sight in target backing with ease. Hand pump makes it a bit of work, but I eventually plan to buy a small compressor to ease the process. I'd give it 5 stars if not for scope issue described below.

Cons
Having read previous reviews, maybe I just got a defective one, but the Hawk scope was shooting over 6" low at just 20 yds out of the box. I tried to adjust it for elevation, and it shot 4 inches left and 4 inches low...and yes, I did adjust the right dial. Still working on it, but if I can't get it dialed in at 20 yds, I don't have much hope for 100+yd shots. On the plus side, despite being way off point of aim, it was putting the shots through nearly same holes between adjustments. I have high hopes for the guns accuracy if I figure out scope issues.

Good gun. Works perfecctly as described. I'm very happy overall.

Pros
Good gun, went hunting with it and hit the target dead center where I was aiming, I used it for pest control and killed in first shot

Cons
Action was a little stiff but I oiled it and works perfectly

If you want to take hogs humanly, out to 200 yards, don't go anywhere else except Airforce. I'm a bit of a mad scientist about long range effectiveness and accuracy,...it works though.

Pros
Quality, reliability and performance.

Cons
Could be even quieter?

Mark from USA

I'm going to buy one. What are the differences in ammo size versus performance? And does the .30 use the .308 pellets from Air Venturi? If not, what ammo is best for these airguns? I will be hunting predators, hogs, and deer. Looking to shoot in the 150-200 yard range. So please recommend the right caliber and ammo for me. Thanks.

asked Craig from USA

i just bought the .357 model what type air cartridge should i order and does it come with air or ammo or do i need to buy both

The Airforce Texan has a built in air tank. You fill it from a compressed air source (3000-4500 PSI) That is from a handpump.air tank. scuba, scba,or carbon fiber, or a high pressure compressor.
