Hard-hitting, accurate, smooth-cocking and quiet for the power.

I was pleased with the power and ease of operation of this air rifle. Unfortunately, I found it to be the loudest air gun I've ever owned, contrary to the advertising and the model name (Whisperer it isn't, unless you whisper like a hammer dropped on a tin roof). I also found the rear sights too small for my aging eyes and hard to get used to, though I'm now able to stay on target in the brightest light after some practice.

I thought my GAMO Silent Cat was the "cat`s meow" but this airgun, with the exact same synthetic stock is even better! Super accurate if you can work with its mediocre scope. Quiet and plenty of power! The IGT piston works great and there`s really nothing to complain about with this airgun. Get it refurbished (Sportsmans Guide, or try Pyramid), for under $140, its better than new!

Pros
Power, accuracy. Price(providing you get it refurbished/reconditioned)

Cons
Scope could be better, but is perfectly adequate. You`d really have to nitpick to find anything wrong with this airgun, given its price

Have owned this for 7 years and it is broke in very well.

Pros
Have owned this for 7 years and it is broke in very well. Wiped out several squirrels and crows. First thing I did was replace scope with a red dot.. The red dot picks up the target faster then the scope provided.

Cons
None

Purchased new. Scope wouldn't stay on target. When I removed the scope I found that the rails were damaged because the scope moved, even though the screws were tight, because I'd checked several times. Rifle also damaged under rail. Appears that scope is fine, but mount is definately inferior. Pics to follow. Your web site will not let me send Pics.

Cons
Bad scope rails

The Gamo Silent Stalker Whisper 22 is the best $250 air gun ever made. Anyone who says this rifle won!t shoot needs some help on rifle shooting period. The SAT trigger is not a custom G4 but is a pretty darn good trigger for a good shooter. Long but very light pull. If you don't locative the mounts n rings around the scope it will sooner or later shoot some bad groups exactly like your deer rifle. Loctite it and oh boy will it shoot! The chronically maligned 3x9x40 scope works fine if you know how to mount and adjust a scope properly. I was going to put an expensive deer scope on it but decided to try out the Gamo Scope for fun. Well, it has been FUN--works perfectly on my rifle and maintains POI even through even when changing from 3x to 9x. The problem is lack of loctite, not the scope. I have settled on two pellets for all my hunting---H&N FTTS consistently shoot big one hole groups at 30 yards. The Predator Polymags do the same. My rifle did NOT need a 500 pellet break in to shoot well? I think this poor shooting is caused by shooter error in not lightly holding rifle so barrel consistency will be the same from shot to shot. There are quite a few pellets that shoot large, poor groups. The ones pointed out here WORK!!! Lastly, you MUST LOCTITE guard screw at trigger guard and the two forearm screws. You should do this on every rifle. This rifle will shoot better than most shooters who hold the gun way to tight causing flyers and misses on game. If you set the rifle up right and use the right ammo you will not miss a squirrel out to 35 yards. Rich

Pros
Light, good handling and feel. Cool assault rifle look to it. Smooth light trigger. Scope that works fine IF you know how to set up and use scopes. Kills squirrels reasonably well with correct shot placement.

Cons
If the trigger bothers you--- get a custom G4. I can't think of anything I don!t like about this low cost accurate shooter.

The rifle is very powerful and accurate but the scope needs to be hard set set for each distance you want to be dialed in at. For example I dialed in the scope for appx 25 yards by shooting and then adjusting based on the grouping. This isn't rocket science and most people know how to sight the scope. Where I and most people get frustrated is the scope loses accuracy on it's own in a bad way. I was mortified when the lens cap nearest my eye popped off after a shot. Upon investigation I leaned that by adjusting the distance in the scope so many clicks downward, closing the distance between the lenses inside the scope, they became loose with play inside the scope housing. That is why it is zeroed in for one grouping and off the next. The gun is actually very accurate. I could see where they used threadlock to secure the locking ring but it had broke loose. You have to unscrew the lens cap, remove the locking ring, clean the threads, reinsert the lenses and then use threadlock again to keep it at the distance you are zeroed in at. I tried it without the threadlock and only a few shots later the lenses had shifted, the cap popped off again and I was off target again. I realize now that if I want to change distances I will have to readjust the lenses and threadlock the ring and cap again. The only cool thing is what was almost unless has now become deadly accurate. At 25 yards each shot is touching another. You could save the hassle by buying a new scope but if you understand what I just explained then you could save money.

Pros
High power, low weight, as quiet as you can find. Accurate when dialed in.

Cons
Scope is a pain to work with but salvageable and accurate if you threadlock the lens ring inside the scope body. Inconsistent ammo, if the lead pellet has to be forced into the barrel then don't use it (at least 1 in 10 are not a good fit), the shots will be off anyway. I am still testing out the best ammo for target shooting.

A lot of complaints about the scope , not the best but from 30 to 40 yards I have figured out how to consistently hit bottle caps and I am a novice shooter. Best of luck

Has power accurate I have the .22

I purchased this air rife because I wanted a powerful .22 without breaking the bank. Upon firing this air rifle I was immediately impressed. The power and accuracy of this air piston rifle had me feeling like they should be charging way more for it! I was hesitant to purchase it based on some items I was seeing in reviews, but decided to take a chance on it. The main complaints I found regarded (1) accuracy issues, (2) scope issues, and (3) the stock. First, I found the rifle to be very accurate. Plus, for a $250.00 air rifle, I found the sites be be outstanding. After about 20 minutes I was firing from a little over 10 meters into quarter sized shot groups. I feel that the complaints are probably mostly stemming from user error. Like shooting any weapon, one most not hold the rife with too much pressure. This is even more important when considering the physics of it. It relies on a charge of air being released to provide propulsion. There is no way that an air rifle can ever deliver this with as much immediate impact as gun powder. If you are holding with a death grip, there is no way to get through the trigger pull and the considerable recoil and still hold it precisely on target. When I found my shot groups begin to spread, I was making this error. Once relaxing I was back to being accurate. Second, the scope is fine. The problem I found was with the mounting bar they added to the rifle. I guess they thought the mounting bar would make it easier to install the scope, but perhaps they failed to realize it was effecting the alignment. I simply could not get the scope to zero until I removed the mounting bar and fixed the scope directly to rails on the rife (this will make sense when you see it). After that I found it very easy to zero and I like the scope (especially considering the price). Third, the main complaint people have with the stock is that the opening is too small for individuals with large hands. As someone with large hands, I did notice that as well. However, it is not necessary put your thumb completely through the opening. In fact, only placing about half of your thumb through the opening helps promote a lighter grip which should make you a more accurate shooter. This will be a great air rifle for anyone who want to hunt small game or control pests. Due to its light weight I would also recommend it as part of a SHTF Plan.

Pros
price, power, sites, nice trigger pull, gas piston technology works fantastic so far, doesn't require a lot strength to charge the rifle.

Cons
Not sure it is a Con because it is on par with other rifles in the sound department (based on test numbers I looked at), but it is definitely not "silent" nor does it "whisper." It is certainly loud enough to piss off close neighbors. If you are looking for just a backyard plinker this may not be for you. All air rifles should be treated as any other rifle, but air rifles such as this deserve an extra layer of caution. It is capable of putting a pellet through a wood fence and into the neighbors yard. The scope mounting bar (or whatever one would call it) does not seem to serve an adequate purpose and I recommend it be removed before mounting the scope direct.

This gun is a great gun for targets. I can shoot a quarter sized group at 20 yards with it. But I can not kill a bird with it to save my life.

Pros
Shoots smooth, velocity

Cons
Makes a weird noise when shot

I was reading about how gas pistons apparently muck up a bit and if they do they won't work at all. I was wondering of this is true about the gamo silent .177 and is there any warranty?

asked Gus muirhead

I have a Gamo Silent Stalker and so does my next door friend. We both only had one problem with the Gamo was the scope slipped back due to not mounting the scope base in the hole provided. After we found out what we done and made right we are very pleased with the Gamo. It has a spring and I have gone thru two cans of ammo without any more trouble. As far as the warrant not sure. I would recommend it over a gas piston any day. All it takes is one cock to charge the spring. Good luck.

Is there a way to aim using the sights with the scope still mounted, and which is more accurate?

asked Dan from USA

I find the fixed sights quite accurate. If you really want to add a scope, AND be able to alternate between scope and sights, 1) get a better scope and 2) get high scope rings with see-thru construction. I've also seen mounting systems to convert dovetail to Picatinny/Weaver that raise a "platform" to mount scope to that allows see-thru of fixed sghts. Of course, this will also alter your ideal cheek position, when changing from one to the other, but there's NO way around that, at least that I'm aware of on today's market.

Jared from USA

The scope is off by about 4-5" at 30' even after hours of sighting and tweaking. There is no way to use the sights while scope is mounted. I took off my scope because it is hard to compensate at varying distances. The sights were dead on from the factory for my rifle and with domed or pointed pellets, I can hit a dime at 30'.

Kojo

Is this gun 975 fps with PBA or lead?

asked Gene

That is with PBA alloy pellets lead will give 700fps or so

Steve Glauser

I'm looking for a .22 cal pellet gun and have been leaning towards the Gamo silent stalker. I'm looking for something that has power, good accuracy, is reliable and somewhere between 200 to 400 bucks. Most people have good things to say about this gun but really want to get the best overall gun for the price. I like the the nitro piston and it sounds like the better option. I would even consider purchasing a pcp air gun. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

asked wade nielsen

In that price range, you're looking at Gamo Silent Stalker or perhaps a Benjamin NP model (only Gamo, though, if you want fixed sight option, for the most part). Another option would be the Hatsan Vortex models, the Umarex gas-pistons, or Stoegers. If you want superior engineering, unprecedented accuracy in a gas piston, you'll have to double your price points. For instance, in the $600-700 range, you can get yourself one of the RWS / Diana 340 N-TEC models that are historic for accuracy and power. Their Luxus gets you 800FPS in .22 cal. If you want fixed sights, I'd stay away from the compact model, but that has other advantages. As for PCP, you'll really have to graduate your price range if that's a move you'd seriously consider.

Scott from USA

Is this a good starter gun?

asked tyler

Yes this is an excellent starter gun. It has just about every feature you could want in a break barrel rifle. It's lightweight, easy to cock, very accurate and powerful. It's also very quiet so as to not disturb the pesky neighbors when shooting in the back yard. It also has Gamo's IGT gas piston instead of a conventional spring which makes it smooth shooting and maintenance free. Highly Recommended!

Jeffrey from USA

I guess it depends on who it's for. The gun is a little heavy so I wouldn't recommend it for someone who is small. For a normal sized adult or teen it is fine. I like the option of the fixed sights and that is how I shoot it. I haven't mounted the scope yet. So it's a good gun to learn to use fixed sights and then you still have the option of the scope. Overall I've been pleased with the gun and I think a beginner can use it easily (given the caveat above).

Randy

In the state of NJ you will need a FFL, (Federal Firearms License). However, you can purchase this item and have it shipped to an alternate address outside of NJ.

Scott from USA

I hear the scope isn't very good. Does this make the weapon per say "in-adequate"?

asked jacob

You cant put just ANY scope on it. Has to be designed for an air rifle spring discharge because of the back shock of the spring going off. I gave $110 for mine at W.M. and wont buy another. The scopes are junk. I could waste another $30 on another scope but I think I am getting a Ruger.

Fred

No definitely not! You can always put a nicer bigger scope on here and it will be fine.

Conor from USA

Overall, if you could go back in time and re think your decision to buy this gun, would you keep it?

asked larry

No, I wouldn't pay $50.00 for it either. If you push 1300fps is great but if you can't hit the target your aiming for what good is 1300fps? That's the issue. It's a rifle that should have a scope w those velocity readings but the scope loses its mark every time the gun shoots with all the vibration. Pls don't respond weighted the mounts. I shoot thousands of rounds every year and I have done everything but wrap this pellet gun around a steel pole to get it to shoot accurate w the scope and every time I lose. Be sure to do your homework is a lesson I too learned.

Joe Dirt

I bought the cheaper version with just a 4x32 scope and nothing else. After 1000 rounds, i would buy this thing again every time. I give alot of harsh reviews, and this one i cant really smack. Other than the useless silencer (which i removed), its perfect.

Scott from USA

How silent is this gun? I'm looking for one that my kid can use for target practice and then move to hunting. He isn't a fan of shooting loud guns. Thanks!

asked Tim

With lead pellets, the noise is next to nothing. With the pba raptor pellets, its like a miniature howitzer. If you're willing to sacrifice 200fps and have the money, stick with lead and go for it.

larry

This gun is very quiet, but is an airgun. It is not a centerfire, rimfire or anything. You have to "break" the barrel to cock the gun and that requires some effort (around 30-40lbs I believe).

Conor from USA

Scott from USA

Can this shoot .177 pellets?

asked Hector A from USA

No it shoots .22 cal. However, if you want .177 Airgun Depot offers the same exact gun but in .177 https://www.airgundepot.com/gamo-silent-stalker-whisper-igt-air-rifle-w-4x32-scope---pba-platinum.html

Conor from USA

Would you recommend this gun for squirrels at around 40 feet max? The houses are around 20 feet away but none in possible ricochet zone (if it bounces off a thick-headed creature). I want a quite gun and would go up to $400 and I have no PCP experience (just break barrel, single pump, hand 2 c02 pistols).

asked Anonymous

This rifle is accurate up to 150 feet. PCP will be the quietest air source for shooting. Co2 is quiet but not rated for pest control. The Gamo Silent Stalker Whisper IGT you have selected is quiet and definitely powerful enough to eliminate squirrels. If you want a gun that is good for pest control and quieter than the Gamo, you can look at item# CD1K77NP-kit Crosman Venom Dusk Tactical .177 cal air rifle (also available in .22 cal). Pellets are usually made of lead or a soft metal to prevent ricochet.

can this gun kill a rabbit

asked Matthew

It can. Make sure to use lead pellets and use either pointed pellets or hollow points.

Scott from USA

can you drop a squirrel with this even if it is a .177

asked Matthew

Yes, these guns are made for small game.

Scott from USA

I live in a suburban area where the houses are VERY close. Either way I love guns and I would love to have another. Is this gun quiet enough to shoot in a garage or very small backyard without having the police called by neighbors? If not, which guns would be? I was also looking into the Benjamin Trail NP XL 1100 .22 and I don't know if either would make the cut. Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

asked Tyson

they are both great guns and its really all coming down to the 1 iron sights 2 stock material 3 speed the gamo has iron sights, the trail has none. the gamo has a plastic stock thats hollow, the trail is walnut. the gamo has a faster speed, but alloy pellets tend to be inaccurate. i would personally go with the trail, cause of the nicer stalk, and fully shoureded barrel.lastly the trail is slightly quieter, the overall sound length is shorter than the gamo.

fuzzysnowman

What would you recommend for varmint hunting, the silent stalker whisper or the bone collector bull whisper? Also, does the silent stalker whisper .177 really shoot 1100 fps with lead pellets because found a website that said with lead pellets it really shoots at about 823 fps average.

asked josh

I'd get this one, just because off the stock :) This will shoot .177 pellets that are around 8 grains about 850-940fps.

Conor from USA

How heavy of pellets do you recommend for this gun, and how does the seal get ruined?

asked josh

The seal can become ruined from putting too light of pellets into the gun. There just isn't enough resistance for the piston, so it "slips" in a way and comes forward too fast "melting" the seal in a way. 8 grain pellets and heavier should suit this gun fine.

Conor from USA

How to proper adjust the scope? I try about 40+ shot from 15 yards n it came close to the center 5 inches n it on the left line or left side.

asked kyle

if your scope can't adjust, it may be defective. Our return policy is on our website and if you are beyond the requirements for a return, The manufacturer will be of service.

Scott from USA

Where dose the inert gas come from? Is there some sort extra cartridge needed to supply the inert gas and where do you buy this, if so?

asked tank

The gun has a pump (single pump break barrel) that supplies the power for the gun. No extra cartridge is required.

Steve from USA

Will a Bipod be able to be attached to this gun? If so, anybody have any suggestions on what type would be a good buy? Thanks

asked Chris from USA

Yes this bi pod should work fine. https://www.airgundepot.com/nc-star-universal-barrel-bipod.html

Steve from USA

how is the scope that the rifle comes with, in terms of not coming loose or off alignment after a few shots?

asked Nick

I have a similar problem with my scope. The mount keeps sliding backward after every shot. I have heard that lock tight will solve the problem. If I want to change scopes or mounts, how can I get the lock tight to release?

Robert

It works, but you can upgrade or put some Loc-tite on the threads.

Carter from USA

I'd upgrade to a bigger scope personally.

Conor

Can I go hunting with this gun? Only for small animals, like game hen, turkey, rabit.....

asked NBL

Everything but the turkey unless you are close is fine to take with this gun.

Carter from USA

Yes, this gun will suit you fine.

Carter from USA

Yes you can, but I wouldn't go for the turkeys....they are kinda big for this gun....unless you can get really close.

Conor

From what I have read...Yes. Although I have not personally brought down a hen, turkey or rabbit yet. You can get around 11-12 ft-lbs of stopping energy at 30 yds, enough to bring down small game. My favorite pellet with this gun is the H&N FTT or the Crosman Premiers (in box).

David from USA

Where legal, absolutely. Check your local, state and federal game laws regarding the use of an air rifle for certain species and during the appropriate seasons, and realize the velocity of the round will fall off with distance to the target; so to keep higher velocity make sure your target distance does not exceed 30 yards or so.

Game Hunter

i would think that a turkey would not get close enough for the gun to be effective ...but rabbits or squrrels might be hunted with this air rifle

I have bought about 5 different rounds and am not really sure what i should use to hunt with. I saw where charliedatuna reccomends a pellet between 6 and 9 grains. I havent put a lot of rounds through it. I live in town and would like to have an idea of what pellet to start with so i don't run everyone out of town if I shoot a coon

asked Travis

It is better to use the heavier of the pellets, so you don't ruin your seal.

Try using Barracudas, Polymags, etc.

Carter from USA

For this gun, use something between 8-11 grain pellets...to light of pellets, and you will damage your piston seal.

I just got mine about 2 days ago. So far I have used the lead superdomes which are about 8.3 grains. I like these the most compared to pointed or hollow point. The superdomes seem to have alot of stopping power. I also used the platinum pba's that came with the gun. They do travel at a faster velocity and are pretty accurate but are lighter around 6-7 grain I believe. If your hunting coons I would go with a superdome or pba for long distance or a hollowpoint for close range. The hollow points are not that accurate for long range. Good luck !!

I have a whisper springer,it is not quiet,is it quiter w/ igt?

asked steve

It is very quiet compared to your whisperer.

Carter from USA

It is a lot quieter with the IGT tech.

Carter from USA

SInce IGT uses compressed gas instead of a spring you lose a lot of the twang noise associated with spring guns. However, if you are shooting light alloy pellets they are going to break the sound barrier and will cause a crack when the pellet breaks the speed of sound.

Scott from USA

Yes it it quieter with IGT technology.

Tony

Hi Is this really a Whisper IGT rifle? the rifle looks a bit different, I am from South Africa. Also can you user .177 calibre pellets?

asked Avesh

This is an .22 cal air rifle. Use only .22 pellets, not .22 lr bullets. Pellets only.

Conor

Yes the rifle pictured is the Whisper IGT in .22 cal you can not shoot .177 pellets through it. Gamo does make the same rifle chambered in .177 if that is what you are looking for. I would highly recommend this rife. The two stage trigger is a huge improvement over older models.

Steven

Yes, this is an IGT 0.22 cal gun. It cannot use 0.177 cal pellets. You must use 0.22 cal. I suggest using Crosman Premier (in box), or H&N FTT for this gun.
