I put a scope on my Red Ryder😀
February 20, 2019
The Red Ryder is a good shooter and Iā€™m surprised at how much fun it is with a scope. The mount and scopes are sold here. I had to turn the back of the scope several turns to focus the cross hair for my eye and put two washers totaling 3mm under the rear of the scope mount to bring the impact where I needed it so I could adjust the cross hair right on target. It shoots one big hole at 5 meters and at 10 meters its much better. At super long shots itā€™s really fun to shoot cans.šŸ‘
Broke after 10 shots
May 28, 2018
Bought rifle for grandson for Christmas. Was able to use it first time Memorial weekend on family vacation.Loaded it and used it for 10 shots and missfired 3 of 10 times and than would not shoot over 5 feet. My grandson was just heartbroken and had been waiting to shoot since Christmas.Thought Daisy was a good product.

The fun of my youth
April 25, 2017
My father bought me a Daisy BB gun for my 8 or 9th Birthday ( it was a long time ago). After I was taught gun safety, I spent my happy hours knocking down tin cans. After I purchased the gun from Airgun depot, I found a great way to relive my long ago youth.

I didn't shoot my eye out
December 9, 2016
I bought two of these Red Rider rifles, one for a prop with my Christmas Story leg lamp decoration along with a framed picture of the Parker Family. The other Red Rider rifle was for me to have some fun with. I received both today with ammo and I have to say I am very impressed with this air rifle. After adjusting the sights I was able to hit every can target I set up. Plus I was impressed that with 25+ feet away the BB went through the empty beer can target. Highly recommend this as a beginner's target air rifle for the price.
ProsLooks great with my Christmas Story leg lamp

"You'll shoot your eye out kid"....
November 21, 2016
Take a trip back to the Christmas that you got a BB Gun, just like the "Christmas Story " movie, the Red Ryder was the most desired BB Gun in the West, I got mine on Christmas morning, however, the BB's that my mom had purchased were the wrong size and the gun could not be shot., make it worse it was a long week end holiday, there I sat with the gun in my lap
I finally got the correct BB's and that daisy shot l,000's of BB's over the years that I had the gun. The updated Red Ryder is still a good shooter and coupled with the BB's furnished with the gun make is enjoyable to shoot. By one to day and go back to those magic days...
ProsLooks great, easy to load and shoot, surprising accurate, Daisy did a good deed bringing this BB Gun back. for lst Gun, and trainer.

Classic VB gun
October 15, 2016
This was most people's first BB gun, and got many started in their fire arms training. A classic. I bought mine to hang on a wall with a Buck and a model 25. This is America's roots when it comes to air guns. For Shooting I prefer pellet guns. BBs ricochet too much. Don't have the accuracy, and even a Red Ryder can't produce the power of a cheap CO2 pellet rifle. Nor the accuracy of a rifled pellet gun. But these are cheap, fun and nostalgic.
ProsCheap Classic

Too much Fun
April 27, 2013
I have been playing with this gun for quite some time and I'm always surprised with how accurate and powerful this tiny and inexpensive bb gun can be. It is fun at any age as my old college roommate and I are 21 and 22 and still put thousands of bb's through it on a regular basis. The sights are incredible and the accuracy will seriously blow your mind.
Proslight weight, easy to cock, powerful, deadly accurate, great sights, quiet, requires just bb's

Daisy Classic Red Ryder 1938 BB Gun
February 20, 2013
This is a very nicely built and performing BB gun. It only resembles the one I bought in 1943 and took good care of. The webpage showing closeup photos, looks rustic enough. The one I received has a refined appearance like the other models advertised.
ProsGoof performance.
ConsThe gun doesn't look original like it is supposed to look as illustrated in closeup photos on its webpage.

Eventually you have to own one.
January 15, 2013
I never had one of these as a kid, and always wondered why they were inexpensive then as now.
Recently, I purchased one for my daughter hoping she would appreciate the rifle, and she did. She has watched the movie "A Christmas Story" every year since she was little and loves it as most people do.
I wasn't sure a girl would appreciate getting one of these but I was wrong. She loves it. Eventually you have to own a Daisy Red Ryder, don't fight it!
ProsLight and fun.

A legend for a reason.
October 28, 2012
Mine as well as many peoples first gun: simple, light, and fun. It's been 12 years since I last shot mine, so dad was cleaning out the old gun safe and there it was, with a few BB's still inside. They must have been as rusty as the gun itself, I thought to myself "this thing wont fire anymore, too old and worn out." But I aimed it at a dirt hill behind the house and pulled the trigger. Twelve years had gone by with no attention what so ever, and it still shot. That more than anything, tells you of the quality of this gun.
ProsLight Cheap Fun Good teaching weapon Memories
ConsFinding someplace to keep it now that I have moved onto better and wont get rid of it.

For the Price
July 12, 2012
What a brilliant accurate little gun, wonderful for the grand kids. They still need granddad to cock it they can shoot it on their own without any help though. The looks on their faces when they hit the inner rings are great!! They ask if they can shoot the cowboy gun, it is a winner with all of them.
ProsThe price and for the price real wood and metal!!! Accurate.
ConsPlastic trigger that is it!!

A lot of fun
April 27, 2012
I shot this rifle over at my friends house all the time it has never bored me. Its a great price for a great gun. For plinking you can't go wrong with this rifle. Do keep in mind the FPS is low so this is NOT a hunters rifle. But if your bored and you want to shot something thats cheap to buy an own, buy this rifle
ProsLot of fun Easy to use Large "magazine" capasity
ConsThe coking handle feals a little weak.

Greatest Begginer Gun on My Opinion
December 10, 2011
I bought my younger brother one of these he is 9 and i was just showing him how to shoot and i wanted to see how strong it really is so i backed up about 30 yards and i tested the distance and i hit a milk jug so it does have some power but it barely hit it and in my opinion this is the best begginer gun ever. I can probably kill something if given the chance with this thing. But my brother is now getting bigger and i would like to buy him a bigger gun to grow with him so please answer my question in the questions and answers section!
ProsGreat Gun Amazing Accuracy for the Price Highly doubted Capable of killing Small Pests Great for Small Children
ConsShows wear over time Doesnt accept Pellets Isnt strong enough for long range hunting

Great for plinking
December 8, 2009
THis gun is amazing for plinking around in your back yard. It has a range of about 200ft (not accurate at this range). I have had mine for 7 years and it still works perfectly. One of the things i love about the red ryder is the lever action function, it makes it fun and easy to shoot and this gun hardly ever miss fires. It holds a lot of BBs so u can extend your fun! If your thinking about buying this gun just go ahead and buy it totaly worth 39 bucks.

For all you people looking to hunt with it
August 4, 2009
This gun is great but to all you people saying it can't kill a bunny... it is because it is not made for that. This gun is made for dad's to teach there sons how to handle a real gun because it feels like the real deal. It is not made to hunt if you want something to hunt with look into the more expensive break barrels... i recomend a gamo but i just wanted to say this gun did what it was meant to do

A suggestion
April 15, 2008
Please, please, please, make a "soft air" version of this gun. EXACT same form and function, just plastic bb's! bb guns are a "firearm" in NJ. Guns that shoot plastic bb's are not.

NRA Qualified 3 cheers
July 14, 2007
I quallified official National Rifle Association NRA Pro-Marksman with the Red Ryder Model 1938B 10 year old's youth rifle at the age of 63. This was one of the first times I had fired live ammo since I qualified with the 30-06 M1 Grande rifle in army basic training almost 45 years ago. Three cheers for the Red Ryder BB gun.
Just Like My Old One

My folks surprised me 60 years ago with the Daisy Red Ryder for Christmas. This new one looks and performs exactly like the first one.

this is a great gun for a kid or a younger person. I had one when I was 11 and recently gave it to my son. He enjoyes it, and it doesnt have to much power for youngsters.

my dad gave me this same gun that is now 39 years of age. truly outstanding quality. but it wont go more the 15 feet, but still, its funt to have. im loking into some how souping it up/upgrades for it, but for rightg now, its fine.
December 31, 2006
a great begginner airgun. while it does have many great features, when the begginner has shot this many times they will yearn for more power and expandability. but that is th only complaint i have
By nutyhermit
Great overall
December 28, 2006
I still have mine...the 2nd version from about 15 years ago. Unfortunately the cheap little plastic bridge on the back site is missing. The rear site fell off but I glued it back on. I only wish the gun had a bit more power, like the one you used to pump from the barrel length-wise. It was a real squirril killer! The safety is a nice touch the old ones didn't have and thankfully the stocks are still "real" wood! Get one.
