The S&W M&P (military & police) air pistol is a dead-ringer for the firearm handgun made by Smith & Wesson. If you like to use airguns to gain or retain proficiency for your firearms, this will help you do that. While the firearm will have more recoil, you'll still be able to get the feel of the gun, the weight, the handling characteristics...and more from shooting the air pistol version. Plus this is one of only a few guns that will shoot either BBs or Pellets. Making it realistic, versatile, and a whole lot of fun.

Smith & Wesson M&P 45 Features
  • CO2-powered
  • Semiauto
  • 8-shot rotary pellet clip & 8-shot rotary BB clip
  • Shoots pellets or steel BBs
  • Double and single-action*
  • Fixed front sight
  • Rear sight adjustable for windage
  • Integral accessory rail
  • Synthetic frame
  • Textured grip
  • Manual safety

*You can pull back the rear part of the slide to shoot the gun single-action, however Umarex lists this gun as double-action only.

The manufacturer states that the M&P 45's velocity is 370 fps. A recent velocity test showed that BBs delivered 360 fps and pellets 350 fps.

The owner's manual says the gun is 7.10" long. That's a typo. It's really 8.10" long.

Performed great for a first time pistol user
November 23, 2011
I purchased this gun refurbished and the only blemishes were on the slide release and safety. This gun looks much better than pictured on this site and would be very hard to distinguish from the actual firearm on first glance. Before purchasing the S&W M&P I had never shot a pistol before and had very limited experience with a rifle many years ago. I was quite surprised how easy it was to shoot with accuracy that was far greater than my expectations. I started out at 15 feet shooting single action and the first eight shots were all within a 2 inch circle. Notice I said single action because this gun is not advertised as having it but it does. I moved back to 20 feet and continuously got results with a spread of no more than 2 inches and a distribution that was equally spaced around my target. That tells me that the sight was probably pretty accurate as delivered. I then went to shooting the gun in dual action and was surprised to see no difference in my accuracy. The trigger was stiffer but seemed very smooth in dual action mode to me. The longer smooth pull of the dual action actually felt more comfortable than when I cocked the gun before squeezing the trigger. I shot Daisy BB's and got about 80 shots on that first can of CO2. I am looking forward to experimenting with different ammo and getting more accurate yet as I get comfortable with this airgun.
ProsVery impressive look and feel, much better than I expected Accuracy is better than I expected as a total newbie
ConsThe safety was too easy to release and I am hoping that it doesn't loosen up as I use the airgun more. It was shipped to me with the instruction manual from a S&W M&P BB gun instead of the manual for this model. I was able to find and print a manual off of another site on the internet.

Great for short distances & accurate

Have owned for many years without any problems until now! Now I cannot get it to use the CO2 cartridges without them immediately fully leaking out. I have now had to discard it and replace it.

Good airgun
February 13, 2017
One of the best CO2 pistols I have, for the money you can't beat it. I have quite a few CO2 air pistols and the M&P 45 is one of my favorites, shoots very well, hard hitting and one of the most accurate out of the box
pistols I have purchased. Has given no problems at all and gives you at good 80 shots per CO2 cylinder.
Small price big package

I love this airgun! Got it refurbished and works great! Love the rotary magazine, easy and realistic. Stainless steal and composite materials make it more durable and holding it seems real. Haven't used it much but it's fun.
ProsRealistic for price Magazines Feels good in hand Price
ConsA little noisy

Really good Deal
July 5, 2016
I own over 30 air pistols most are C02 and Pellet. All cost more than this pellet shooter but since many are Walther guns that take the same rotary magazine I thought I'd give it a try. Over all It would be an understatement to say I'm impressed. This little, mainly composite, pistol shoots very well indeed. As good as many of my pellet shooters that cost much more.
ProsAccurate ie decent barrel rifling. well built. Totally acceptable trigger. Rotary mag fits many other pistols.
ConsIncluded bb magazine concerns me. The mere thought of shooting steel bb's down a rifled barrel is disturbing. It cant be good for this low priced rifled barrel. I personally would never do it. They should just call it a pellet gun and stop trying to reach a broader market with the suggestion that its ok to shoot steel bb's. The new copper coated lead bb's could be interesting.

Accepts both bb's and pellets. Unique magazine. Handsome piece. A favorite of mine.
ProsAccepts bb's and pellets. Nice heft. Realistic looking
ConsConcern that using bb's could wear out the rifled barrel.

Very Accurate Fun Shooter
June 24, 2016
I really find this pistol fun to shoot. I use pellets only, RWS Basics, and they work fine. No jams, pretty accurate from the first cartridge. I'm getting 9 mags total from one CO2, that's about 72 shots. I'll definitely need to buy some extra mags to go with the four I have. Loading the CO2 is easy in the snap-close handle. Installing the clips is easy and fast. The gun is a nice polymer and feels good in my hand. Light but large enough so it's not toy-like. For the money, this one is hard to beat. Once I got my hold down I was grouping very well at 18 feet. Looking forward to shooting it again.
ProsLight, accurate, fun to shoot, good on gas, pretty good trigger once you adjust to the long draw, price is great for what you get.
ConsSurprise, no cons!

Throw-away item
June 20, 2015
It functioned well, but keep in mind it is a throw-away. I shot about 5000 rounds through it, and it started to go south. Out of a rotary clip of 8 pellets it miss fired 2-4 pellets. I called several air gun repair folks and they wouldn't touch it. I called Umerex, they said while it was under the Umerex name they didn't make it, it was made in South-East Asia. I asked what the company name was so I could order parts. They refused to tell me.
ProsGreat replica, actually feels like my M&P powder burner, cheap way to practice. Single action trigger pull feels like a fire arm trigger pull, double action feels like a truck.
ConsHeavy trigger pull in double action, once it starts to fail, throw it away. I hate the fact that Umerex won't stand behind what they sell. I guess I will recommend to a friend, but with the understanding that you use it and throw it away.

Quality Start
February 23, 2015
The M&P .45 was my first pistol. Fantastic pistol for starting out; I feel lucky to have chosen it. I was able to teach myself the basics of air gun use and safety with this gun, and still have a quality product once I felt confident shooting it. And I was brutal on it, sometimes shooting several times each day. It must have gone through thousands of shots and thousands of scratches before it was "Honorably Discharged". The cost might as well have been $80-$90. Well done, UX.
ProsAdvantages for newbs like me: Good weight and feel. BB/pellet versatility. Nice Co2 housing design; no grips popping off. Double/single action. Fairly consistent accuracy and power for the newcomer.
ConsRotary mags were tricky to load and get used to, but my other guns with rotary mags can also be, even after allllll this time.

Buyer beware
February 21, 2015
When the pistol worked, it was great ... really enjoyed it ... nice feel ... good replica of the S&W M&P. But if it breaks, just toss it.

The rear cap seal on the internal valve needs to be replaced as it was not pressed on correctly to begin with. Oddly, it did not show up until a year later. I have contacted 3 pellet gun repair shops and they do not service Umarex, not even Umarex USA will service or even provide parts for this model. They will not even have me send in the part so they can look at it. I cannot repair because there is a brass ring that has to be pressed over the seal to attach the seal to the cap.

Apparently, some of Umarex's models are throwaway if anything goes wrong, unless it is under warranty.

Love it
September 6, 2013
Very happy overall.

Only one complaint, and this may be partly my fault, perhaps I didn't oil it properly. But sometimes the trigger kind of jams/locks, I think it has something to do with the rotary clip being stuck. Usually releasing and then pulling the trigger again or just pulling it hard enough does it and it's fine from there.

The black plastic rotary clip quite simply did not work for me. I tossed it.

Great Pistol..
February 17, 2013
Great pistol. Can't tell it's a refurbished product. Mine shoots with amazing accuracy. You get a lot of shots per Co2 cartridge. Some say 80 shots and I'm assuming I get somewhere around that. I have not counted shots but was having so much of a good time each time I shoot. I group very, very well with this pistol. I can't say enough about it's accuracy for me. I teamed mine up with Gamo Pro Magnum pellets. Works well with the rifled barrel. Very good setup.
ProsAccurate, fun to shoot, and rifled barrel.

right out of the box

This gun is deadly accurate, hard hitting, and feels good in the hand. I got 100 rounds out of the Co2 cylinder. I had only three pellets go about a quarter of an inch out of the center section of my target. About a four inch circle from a standing freehand position, from 25 feet. I'm impressed, for your money you cant beat it. Happy shooting.
ProsWell made by umarex. I like the total package.

I got this gun to use as a practice tool. Put a universal mount on it with a dot sight. I shoot to about 6-7 meters with fair groups and it serves the purpose.
ProsWell, it isn't a Glock but the the grip is good. This refurb is ok.
ConsWith the mount in place, its a bit hard to safely secure the front assembly after loading a mag. I have to be precise so my finger doesn't cover the muzzle.

Can't beat it!
December 28, 2012
I purchased the M&P refurbished and it looks and performs like brand new, no issues. Couldn't wait for it to arrive and shipping was fast considering it was 2 days before Christmas when I ordered it. It arrived as promised on the 27th even with the weather delays posted on fedex's website. The double action was smooth without the noticeable two stage click that you get with most double actions at this price point (I also own the M&P .40 BB only version). The single action is a bonus and was easy enough that my daughters (9 and 14) were both able to shoot comfortably in both single and double action where as the double action on the M&P BB only version proved to be a little too much for them to pull off. Since I also tested the M&P .40 BB only at the same time as the .45 let me do a little comparing here. I liked the fiber optic site on the .40 and the fact that you can load up the 18 round drop out clips...but the weight of the .45 and the bonus of single/double action more than make up for the difference. Accuracy on both were on par being able to get good 2 inch groups consistently at 20 feet right out of the box. The .40 is noticeably lighter and has a more "shiny, plastic" look to it, where as the .45 has a nice weight and a more matted finish. The round 8 shot pellet/BB clips preformed flawlessly as I shot several clips of each through it. Bottom line, if you're worried about picking up the refurb don't be (plus the refurb comes in a box from umarex instead of the original blister pack). It is just as good as new. If you're trying to decide between the .40 BB only or the .45 BB/pellet, I would have to say go with the .45 (I think) the weight, finish, and single action are worth it (the fps on the .40 is a little higher but negligible at the 20ft distance I was shooting at). I did like the ability to load more rounds with the longer drop out clips on the .40 but am seriously considering returning the .40 (which I picked up on and picking up a second refurb .45 from here. Thanks to Airgun Depot for a flawless transaction, quick shipping, and a phenomenal pistol at a great price that far exceeded my expectations. On an added note, I did notice that another review stated that the safety on his was messed up. Initially I thought mine was also but that wasn't the case. You would expect the safety to just click up and down and it just seemed like it was stuck. In actuality the safety on this model has to pushed forward and then up or down which takes a little getting used to with one hand. Just makes me wonder if that was the issue with the other reviewers pistol.
ProsWeight Finish Double AND single action Accuracy Refurb in excellent condition Great price Performed flawlessly
ConsCan't find anything I don't like about this pistol.

Good performer
December 3, 2012
Thus far a good little shooter. I like the weight, many of the low cost pellet/BB pistols are very light and feel like a toy. BB's and pellets are easy to load into the clips and no problems with the clip jamming in the gun even though the pellets were loaded by hand. No need for a pellet loader.

One of the best things - it came in a real cardboard box, not a plastic clamshell. Protects the pistol when storing.
ProsWeight, it feels good in the hand. Ease of loading the clips with pellets/BB's Loading clips into the pistol Double action trigger pull is not heavy
ConsNon adjustible rear sight, but shoots to point of aim. M&P 40 bb pistol, which is much cheaper and has a better rear sight.

Gun is as advertised
November 22, 2011
Gun is very impressive. It sort of scared me taking it out of the box in fact. It shoots very accurately. I ended up returning mine a couple days after receiving it because the safety didn't work properly. Otherwise, definitely a super deal and fine product. I would have gone 5 stars except for the safety issue. I fired it about 80 times in 50-60 degrees to give you an idea of how long the CO2 will last.
ProsVery accurate Impressive looking and nice feel
ConsNo complaints overall, but my safety did not work properly
