Very quiet and completely recoilless, it's the perfect pistol for practice at home. One stroke of the cocking lever shoots a .177 pellet more than 400 fps. Red-dot sight included, or use with provided open sights.

Cocking requires considerable pressure and the included red-dot sight was in the way. The first thing I did was remove the red dot. The open sights provided are easy to adjust for sighting in. This gun shoots higher or lower, depending upon the weight of pellets. I settled upon Stoeger X-field precision, round-nose pellets. Now I can put pellets in a tiny circle from nearly 50 feet away, impressive for any air-powered pistol. The trigger has no creep to speak of, but it has a long take-up. Ideally, the thing should tighten slightly just before release, but this doesn't. Certainly we are not supposed to know when a trigger releases, but it would be good to know when it is almost ready to release. The trigger is adjustable, but that isn't a job for the average shooter. Other than that this gun is a real good buy. Not recommended for women, children or weak or infirm persons because of the strength needed to cock. But for the average person with average strength, it really isn't much of a problem. Buy this gun, I say. It is the best value for the price and is as accurate as any gun out there.

Great for garage or basement plinking or out side. Very accurate once sites are set. Nice little blow back kick.Would be nice if offered in 25 cal with same fpc at twice the price I would buy as gifts!

Pros
Same as review!

Excellent shooting air gun. Once adjusted sight is "right on" Enjoyable to "plink" with.

Cons
If you have large hands, as I do, it is rather difficult to load the pellets.

The red dot is a waist of money stands in the way of great sites, I replace the screw on my for a long one and nylon lock nuts and it is dead on for the past 5k shots. deal great deal, you get more than you pay

Pros
Amazing trigger and accuracy feels like a $300 gun great weight and feel great on the hand.

Cons
You may have to open the piston to make sure is no burs on the air hole and apply some grease on the oil rings my was ok, but had to work on the sites. My friend used loctite on his and he is happy with it

Read all reviews on line. I knew what I was getting, and how to fix it. Received this pistol, tore it completely down and started my tune. This thing is very simple to work on and understand. Took the piston out of it and deburred the compression hole in the cylinder tube with 1500 grit sand paper lightly. Checked the two upper orings, they were good shape. Lubed cylinder and orings with light coat of white litium grease, cleaned trigger area and rest of gun inside with plastic brush. that was all lubed well from factory. Put it all back together. The trigger is adjustable, but found it quite good as is,,a little take up, crisp release. Shooting 17 feet, with red dot mounted one quarter inch hole, time after time. It will drive tacks at that range. Still using a gun rest, shoot it with open sights groups a little bigger, but they work well. Don't care for the red dot scope, adjustments don't lock in place, will walk off target sooner or later. That scope is a give away, but I will figure out how to lock it in place. I will try it at longer ranges, but like any pistol at 400 fps, they will spread a little bit. My gun likes Crosman 7.4gr pointed lead pellet, not the 7.9gr. Bought Viton orings at Harbor Freight few years back, so I have replacement orings,$9.95 assorted pack, easy to change. I didn't go into details on this tune, its all on You Tube. You cant buy any gun this cheap that shoots this well ! And it has a great trigger ! 40 bucks ! I've put 300 pellets through, no problems. Buy one!!!!

Pros
Very accurate, shoots hard, nice trigger!

Cons
none... The work I did on it was preventative and may not have been needed, but I enjoyed it.

How many bb's will it hold?

asked Steve c.

It shoots pellets, not BBs. Holds one at a time.

Greg from USA

It is not designed to shoot BBs only pellets.

Bill

This air pistol holds zero bbs. It shoots .177 caliber pellets only. It is a single shot pistol. You load the pellet right into the chamber when it's open. When you close it, you also compress the piston which charges it, then it's ready to fire. Pretty simple, and very reliable and durable. This really is a great pistol, and I feel it's easily worth double what it costs.

I just purchased a P17 assuming I could put one of my red dots on it, but I can't. What is the red dot that comes with the kit? How can I get one?

asked Rich

The Beeman P17 has an 11 millimeter (3/8 inch) dovetail for mounting optics, rather than a Picatinny rail. I'm guessing that your red dot sights are made to attach to a Weaver or Picatinny style rail. You can purchase an adapter (Airgun Depot Item #: Leapers 11mm Dovetail to Weaver...) that will give you a few inches of rail, or you can use optics that clamp directly onto the dovetail. The NC Star LED Red Dot sight (Airgun Depot Item #: DP3-8) looks exactly like the one labeled Beeman that came with my P17. Be forewarned however: optical sights that sell for less than $15 are often hard to sight in, and they're typically not very durable. You get what you pay for -- usually. The open fiber optic sights that come on the P17 are not at all bad (the rear sight is even adjustable for windage and elevation), and the pistol itself is a remarkable bargain. The P17 is essentially a copy of the Beeman P3, which often sells for up to six times the price, probably due to the fact that it's made by Weihrauch in Germany. Try shooting targets with your P17 using the open sights. At ten meters and less, you might be surprised at how accurate you can be.

can it kill a varmint?

asked Anjan

I'd yes if the varmint is small, like rats and gophers. Squirrels are kinda tough and others like rabbit and crow are simply too big for this gun. Of course range is also a big factor because accuracy and pellets lose power fast. Rabbit at 10', easy brain shot so yes. Rabbit at typical 50'+ you're going to miss the brain and power drops so it will die a cruel death. I'm not so sure about this red dot sight either... The gun is for close range due to its power, but that sight sits so high which upsets accuracy at various ranges. The oem open sights are at a much better height and they work fine. I'd pass on the red dot but up to you.

Todd

The short answer is yes, probably. However, the specs for this pistol list its muzzle velocity as only 410 fps. It's also a single-stroke pneumatic, so you're unlikely to be able to get off quick follow-up shots (loading a pellet can be a bit tricky). I'd suggest a CO2 powered repeating rifle, something like the Crosman 1077, as a more humane choice for dispatching "varmints". Speaking of "varmints" -- a relatively low-powered .177 rifle or pistol should only be considered for use on rats and similar sized pests. On any larger critter, you'll likely risk wounding the animal rather than killing it outright. The Beeman P17 is an excellent target pistol, far better than you might guess judging from its price. It's great for punching holes in paper, but I really can't recommend it for pest control.

Scott from USA

Where is the cocking lever located on the P-17?

asked Samuel Friedman

Cocking level is located under the rear site. Pull hammer back, and lift up on metal rail, under the rear site.

Jerome from USA

It's a Beeman, so I presume the design is German but priced at only $45.95. I have to figure it's made in China (maybe Taiwan?). Does anyone know the country of origin for the current model P17 Beeman? Is the production quality acceptable? How about durability? Are spare parts (such as O-rings) available? Does the red-dot sight require batteries? What size and how many? There's only one review posted here on Airgun Depot's site, and it's none too favorable.

asked Scott from USA

The P17 is a, made in China, Beeman-licensed copy of the German-made P3. It's also 5x less money.

Bill

Chinese made, but certainly better than most in quality for them. I think the price throws people off, if they asked $100 I bet they'd sell more because the first thought is how good can a $40 gun be, right? Well I'm certainly glad I took a chance on it, and I plan on buying two more. So quality is beyond compare for the $, very durable high quality plastic with steel reinforcements running thru it. The internals and barrel are very good quality, I don't know how they can make this so cheap. I can't say about the O-rings, but I'm sure you could find something locally, there's just three and they're the only thing in the whole gun that won't last for life. I wouldn't expect much from the sight, other cheap sights I've seen were not worth the very small price paid for them. But heck, try it and see, who knows... The one's I've seen take small button cells like a 13 aka 44? I think two cells but I can't say for sure on either.

ROBERT from USA

will it shoot bb s as well as pellets

asked ron

No, this gun is pellet only.
