The Crosman Raven youth rifle shoot 600 feet per second. It is an ideal entry level break barrel for younger or smaller shooters. Even though the pellets are traveling at 600 FPS most customers think this rifle is not powerful enough when they can purhcase a BB rifle that shoots 780 FPS. It shoots at 600 FPS because of the rifling that the barrel has, this creates added drag and slows down the pellet but gives it a balistic spin. The spinning makes the pellet travel through the air like a drill, cutting through it allowing much more accurate and longer distance shots than a BB could ever hope for.

I wanted to try something different and i'm glad i did, this is a great pellet rifle, who cares about the plastic sights or the trigger pull, this is a very accurate and quite weapon. I'm not sure about the 600 fps but it packs a punch, it will bury it's self in my neighbors fence and did i say it's super accurate. my backyard is around 15 or so yards and i'm getting nickel size groups. first of all i also ordered the crosmam optimus combo along with the raven youth rifle and took the scope from the optimus and put it on the raven and since the very small recoil doesn't affect the accuracy it's a match made in heaven, i have a couple bags of army men sit up through out the yard and some spinners too. the raven has no problem knocking down the army men and spinning the spinners. i will talk about the crosman optimus in another review later. so too wrap things up yall should maybe try this rifle, for the price of 3 cases of beers you could have this in your collection of fine pellet rifles. hope this might get ya to maybe look into this rifle... SEE YA!!!!
Prosquite, accurate, light weight bla bla bla.

bought this for my grandson to replace his daisey 880 pump. After receiving the gun I cleaned all the oil off the gun and cleaned the barrel then the fun started. I went through 5 different pellets types and could not get a group smaller than 2" and was starting to think this gun was going back, then I tried the last of the pellet type I had which was jsb exact dome 8.44 grain. Would not believe the surprise I got ,started stacking pellets on top of each other. This gun is pellet picky but once you find the right pellet you can not find a better shooting gun. I'll post a pic of the group I shot. I love shooting this gun, going to hate to see it go, My grandson could not be getting a better gun.
Proseasy to cock , light in hand shoots great when you find the right pellet
Constigger is a little stiff but you get used to it.

The mighty Raven

I bought this as a trainer for my six year old. He loves it and it's exactly the accurate and easy to use rifle he needed. He can cock it by himself.
ProsInexpensive, accurate, lightweight and fun to shoot.
ConsI'd like to see a Nitro Piston option in the youth size. But, for a springer, this one is smooth and easy even for a little shooter.

i have shoot competition air rifles capable of putting hole in hole accuracy at 10 meters i got this air rifle and bought a 3-9x40mm scope for it and i could shoot birds squirrels and the pop tabs off pop cans at 15-20+ meters this rifle is easy to cock takes a very cheap ammunition and can deliver accurate shots at 15-20 yards perfect spriger even if the muzzle velocity is 600 feet per secondbut the trigger might not be the best its appropriate for the price

Excellent Youth Rifle
June 30, 2014
I bought this gun for my son for his 9th birthday, it was an upgrade from his Crosman 760 Pump Rifle, and is easy for him to pump himself. We have added a BSA scope to his gun, and with the Crosman Destroyer pellets at 15 yards, the gun shoots true, grouping 5 shots within 3/4" (not bad for a 9 year old).
ProsExcellent Youth Gun (good size and weight) Easy for a 9 year old to pump Shoots true
ConsOpen sites are made of synthetic materials (not iron sites)

Crosman Raven
December 27, 2012
Gun was bought as a step up from Crosman 2100 Classic ,pump up rifle. We shoot targets and cans only. It is more of a one step forward, two steps back. The open sights are not usable, rear sight flops around every time you reload! Should not have to buy a scope for a beginner rifle! Trigger is also not good as a 2100 Classic. Point of impact 8" below point of aim at 100 feet. Plastic trigger and safety mechanism are scary. Keep pointed downrange!! Use only with adult supervision!!!!
ProsLooks real cool! Break barrel is easy for an 11 year old. Shoots pellets.
ConsBad open sight system. Trigger not up to snuff. Made in CHINA.

I bought this gun for my son and it is just what he needed. He is 9 and he can cock it on his own. The gun is very powerful and he is enjoying days of shooting. The shipping is quick.
ProsFor the price it's great. It is easy to cock.

Very reliable first air gun
April 22, 2012
after reading reviews on this gun I realized one of the major problems is cocking the barrel, if you directly pull on the barrel you risk damaging it and waste a lot of time, but if you deliver a firm tap to the nozzle of the gun it opens easily. I've passed more or less 750 shots through the gun and it still works well. I suggest oiling it regularly and always shooting it at least once per month to clear the barrel.
ProsSturdy Lightweight Accurate
ConsSlight noise when shooting as it gets older

I said when he masters the iron sights he would get a scope on it ,well he acheived his goal and now has a decent 3to9 scope He is excelent at placing shots at different distinces. Many air guns latter this is still one of his favorites.

Not bad for a youth rifle
January 27, 2012
Got this to take out squirrels in the back yard but was a little weak (with Crosman Premiers 10.5gr a little heavy for youth gun) have since started using RWS Super points and the accuracy improved and seems to hit a little harder. Over all not a bad gun.

I read a lot of reviews and the say it goog for kids I'm 46 and love the raven no pest in my yard
great cheap rifle
September 30, 2010
You can't beat this rifle for the money. I have a small city lot, and wanted something quiet to keep the squirrels off my bird feeder. It is about as quiet as it gets, and will drop squirrels up to 25 yards with an upper body shot. I've gotten a few even farther than that with good shot placement. The open sights on the one I bought were crooked, my only complaint. However, I bought a dovetail to weaver adaptor, and mounted a cheap Wal-Mart Tasco red dot on it. That make it really nice. It's pretty accurate (at least out to 25 yards), and actually shoots faster than adertised with standard (7.9 grain) pellets. Shooting through my chronograph, shots averaged about 625 FPS. All shots were above the advertised 600 FPS.

great break barrel for kids
February 27, 2010
if your looking for a great rifle for kids, look no further, easy to sight in with scope, great accuracy at 25 yds, dont buy those cheap daisy guns for your kids, get them these because, im sure theyll want to shoot these style guns for years to come, get them hooked on break barrels.

great cheap air rifle
October 16, 2009
This is the perfect rifle for varmint control if you've got a small, city lot with nosey neighbors. The fiber optic sight sucks. The one on my rifle was mounted crooked, and there is no way fix that. I returned it and got a new one, but the sight on the new one was also crooked. However, if you buy a decent scope (I got a Daisy Powerline for $35), and sight it in, this rifle is very accurate. It's very easy to cock and load. It is also inconspicuous looking, and very quiet. If you can get within 50 feet of your target, you can take out small rodents no problem with one shot. I bought it to keep squirrels from destroying and pillaging my bird feeders, It's worked so well for that, I've concidered taking it small game hunting.

cool gun!
August 6, 2009
got 1 last week, shot around 300 rounds thru it, after break in clean, i put a 3-9x32 scope on it, zeroed it then shoot my 55yrd. target, 1st shot! i have now moded the stock, by removeing the rear pad, went 2 ace got 2 #8 3 inch screws, cut 2 pieces of pvc pipe @ 2 1/4 inches, slipped the screws thru the pad, sliped the pvc pieces, [painted black] over screws screwed into old holes, till snug, now the stock looks like a sniper extension, makes it better 2 shoot for bigger kids! butt 2 end its a very nice gun 4 the price!

would this rifle be better than the youth Gamo gun with pellets scope and targets? Obviously we would have to purchase everything else, mount scope pellets and target which would step up the price.. Any thoughts?
By Staff on December 29, 2011

If you are simpoly planning on using the gun for target plinking, this gun will be perfect. It's power is a bit weak so if you plan on killing squirrels or other small animals, the gamo would be better.

how do you cock

By Staff on July 17, 2012

The easiest way to cock a break barrel pellet rifle is to sit down and place the gun across your lap, with the barrel overhanging, hit the barrel near the front sight with the palm of your hand and it should open up.
