I purchased this gun for the soul purpose of rebuilding it and turning it into something special, It's actually not too bad for plinking tin cans at 10 to 15 yards, but after that the shot groups pretty much fall apart. That's due to the plastic breech and barrel band. Just by changing to a long steel breech and adding a scope this gun produced 3/8 inch shoot groups at 25 yards, with JSB 8.4 pellets. I also was able to consistently hit tin cans at 50, 55 and 60 yards. Just today, I was hitting popsicle sticks at 35.4 yards (distance confirmed by my range finder). Man I hate that trigger though! I'm still waiting for the arrival of a two stage trigger, brass barrel band, larger diameter transfer port, walnut grips and forearm. I'm excited to see just how well this pistol will perform when I'm finished building it. If you're looking for a pump pistol project gun, that can be turned into an absolute tac driver, this is the one you've been looking for.
Pros
Price, It's a very inexpensive pellet pistol. The barrel is top notch. Has a good foundation to build an exceptional pump pellet pistol,
Cons
Everything except the barrel and frame. The plastic breech and plastic barrel band are not much good for anything. The trigger is total junk. It will affect the accuracy, The sights are just as bad as the trigger, totally worthless. Tear it down and totally rebuild it with upgraded parts throughout the entire gun.
Dont expect to be highly accurate with out upgrade. Factory sights on this gun have a lot of room for improvement.
Pros
Shoots well, powerful for the money
Cons
Crosman offers a steel breech replacement for the plastic stock breech. I would give this gun 5 stars if they would include the steel breech. I understand that could make the gun cost more, but it turns this pistol into a dime group gun. Also, its the best way to mount a scope. I tried the factory scope mounts, but they mount to the barrel and the barrel moves a little which tilts the scope.
Other than that, I like it...variable pump is good too.
Pros
It's powerful enough to dispose of rabbits, and all others smaller than them.
Cons
The sights seem to be made for a preschooler-huge, clunky, and reminds me of FAT pencils and crayons.
It's a real classic. While PCPs are all the rage now, pump guns and break barrels still have a place in your gun safe. If you need to clear pests from a structure while doing minimal damage, there is no better tool.
Pros
I remember when this was introduced, My brother and had put thousands of rounds through our Crosman pump action rifles. CO2 was beyond our budget -- in fact, a tin of pellets was often a stretch, because we paid for them a nickel at a time by searching for returnable bottles. I am still thankful for a generous uncle. The things that were great about this pistol in 1977 are still great today. It's built like a bridge. It has an amazingly good trigger. The trigger is not light, but it is crisp, and the break is very short. Very close to a glass rod. Given that you can choose the level of power, you can either pepper a dart board while sitting on the sofa (3-5 pumps), or manage pests or shoot to longer distances with more pressure. As people have been tuning this model for nearly 50 years, there are many modifications to make the basic package your own. I personally own this with an AR style stock and red dot scope as a compact carbine. I've spent many hours 3D printing parts.
Cons
While the stock plastic breech is entirely shootable, the steel breech kit makes the pistol steadier. It also allows mounting an optic. This pistol is quite accurate at 20 yards with a simple 4X scope or red dot/reflex optic. Adding a longer barrel is simple, and increases velocity and power.
Mine came with the breech screw loose, so check that. Oil the pump arm and clean or polish the barrel if you can. If you plan to mount a scope absolutely do not do it with the B272 intermount, just go for the breech upgrade of your choice, the intermount with a scope on it will put extra stress on the already (mildly defective imo) weak parts.
Use them for a laser once you have the breech on there!
The sights are basic, the front post is a little wide for very long shots and it could use a spot of paint.
Prepare for a great time and lots of memories if you pick one of these up! With the right care and maybe some parts it's a great hand-me-down for sure, and with the amount of options out there for upgrades it has the potential to be a beautiful heirloom piece to leave the grandkids to teach their youngins.
Pros
Lots of power for a pistol, decent weight, excellent ergonomics and great potential for upgrades or customization, and just plain fun to shoot. It aso good looks and comes at a fair price, though I do miss the older grips sometimes.
Great for practicing shooting or hunting if you know how, just make sure you know what both you the shooter and the gun are capable of before trying first in case you didn't know.
Cons
Certain parts are not up to par of the quality of the rest of the gun, like the barrel band and breech, I've encountered stretching and an imperfect seal due to them being plastic and over time they will do what plastic does. The barrel itself has wiggle room, more than I remember on the previous model. My second pistol I am currently working on has never been able to stay sighted in because of this, from the torque of pumping being able to shift the breech and band slightly. Barrels are crude at best extremely unpolished and commonly have burrs and streaks. (All my crosman barrels have and I find this quite sad because it could be an easy fix for the factory but for a lot of people they don't have the tools to fix it or make it better)
Finish is not pretty rough and the blueing is not very deep but for 60$ you shouldn't expect too much... I like it sanded down to silver better anyways or very polished.
If they were 100% solid and came with better finished barrels I would give 5 star
This is a great deal for the price
Pros
The American Classic is a great gun to have for back yard shooting its a bit loud for my opinion but it shoots really good. I use mine for target shooting and it works great I love it.
Cons
there is not much to change on the gun, just one thing the handle will wobble a bit so treat it with lots of love so it could last you longer , other then that I love the gun
I bought this for my Dad for Christmas. He wanted it because it was just like one he had as a kid, (he’s 82 now.) except the old one had some wood on it. He said works as expected and shoots pretty straight. He loves it!!!
Totally like this pistol. I find it very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.
As one reviewer said these can end up costing way more money if you desire to upgrade them. So many aftermarket parts available . Mine is highly modified with just about every mod known to man. I like the older guns that were mostly wood and metal . This pistol works fine in stock form , but if more performance is wanted then deeper pockets will be needed . Mine has a adjustable folding stock which makes it into a carbine . Also a aluminum multi-shot breech made by BNM custom that employs the use of a Marauder 10 round magazine . The kit includes a shrouded & baffled system to make it quieter. I mounted 3X12X32mm side focus UTG scope on the pica-tinny rail with heavy duty mounts. Installed a flat top valve and brass piston assembly so it produces more power. It can be switched back and forth from .177 to 22 with minor disassembly. Simply change bolts and barrels.
Pros
Makes good power in stock form .Many upgrades out there, providing your willing to spend the money. Easy to work on. Lots of plastic but seems durable.
Cons
In stock form a plastic breech , a plastic piston assembly , plastic grips and pump handle.

Pros
Very accurate and easy to use. You'll see pictured below - Hand held at 50 feet.
Cons
Since the stocks are molded, I wish they were made with a more "romantic" checkered appearance, that might have brought up the price slightly but would have made a BIG difference in pride of ownership.
