This BB gun is a replica pistol based on the S&W Military and Police firearm. The M&P air pistol is a BB repeater powered by one 12g CO2 cylinder that hides in the grip of the BB pistol. An integrated accessory rail underneath the muzzle is a great place to add a tactical flashlight or an air gun laser. An element of realism is added with a 19-shot drop out BB magazine. The Smith & Wesson M&P CO2 pistol has a manual safety, double action trigger that's amazingly close to the actual handgun, and fixed front and rear fiber optic sights.

The shape- weight and function of the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 by Umarex has all the similarity of the live-fire handgun. This BB replica is not only a great BB gun for some fun plinking, but also makes a great target shooting and training pistol for S&W M&P firearm owners.

Smith & Wesson M&P 40 Pistol Features

S&W M&P 40 Perfect First AirGun
January 24, 2012
This is my first airgun and I have to say I love it. I bought this as a refurbish and I have to say I'm very happy with it. It's exactly as advertised shoots well and gives out a good bang for your buck. This airgun is easy to shoot and I love the magazine which holds 19 BB's. Perfect airgun for a first time buyer.
I will definitely recommend this product to a friend.
ProsEasy to Shoot, Magazine holds 19 BB's, airgun looks real and feels great. Metal magazine adds weight to the gun. Perfect gun for a first time buyer in my opinion.
ConsGun mostly plastic and the two screws on the right side of the gun kills the realism. Putting something to cover the screws like a small black screw hole cover would had been great. Magazine goes too far into gun.

Smith & Wesson M&P 40
August 7, 2011
I absolutely love it! great weight, very accurate up to 30 yards (depending on shooter). I have put it thru quite rigorous testing and its passed with flying colors! i use the oil as recommended (use it liberally, i even put it on the magazines and they slide in and out much smoother) and each co2 cartridge has lasted me nine magazines of nineteen rounds each. i plan on buying the earth brown version right now! all that's left to say is get as many bb's, co2 cartridges, and magazines that you can afford because you won't want to put it down.

Cheaper does not mean below average
September 13, 2010
This is my first BB gun, but it still packs a punch.
The gun overall is pretty simple, as BB Pistols ARE.

My friend has a Pellet one, but his isn't nearly as good as this one, but he paid the same price for it.
So far, I'm quite satisfied.
I've heard things about the gun messing up without the special Oil (Find it in the Accessories, made by Crosman), but I didn't pay attention when I was ordering and did not purchase it, yet, I've used over 3 CO2's and the gun's fine.

Not the best review, but I would say out of most the guns for this price, this is probably better in Velocity (Power/Speed), Accessibility & looks!

December 13, 2018
Not all that impressed with this pistol. Very light weight, cheap plastic feel, bbs keep coming out of the magazine forcing me to stop shooting and eject the magazine to free the bbs.
Looks nice but otherwise disappointed
ProsLooks Good
ConsBBs come out of the magazine in the gun Light weight

It's okay.
January 10, 2018
This pistol is okay for what you pay for it. It has pretty high fps by today's standards. If you're looking for a cheapo M&P lookalike that has licensed trademarks and looks good, this might be for you.
ProsLooks good. Mags are interchangeable with many Umarex bb pistols. Shoots hard.
ConsVery lightweight and and feels pretty cheap, as it is pretty much all plastic.

Very Realistic feel
December 12, 2017
For the price, this air pistol gives you an accurate feel for the real thing. The weight is good and it looks and feels like the real deal. I plan to use it as a cheaper means to practice.
ProsWeight, feel and look of the real deal.
ConsThis model does not have the blowback feature. It's on the site for about $60 more.

great little gun
January 1, 2017
Great little gun for beginners In plinking. Gun is very accurate and it very realistic. Has a great range for the accuracy. I am teaching my 5 year old granddaughter gun safety with this weapon. She is learning and doesn't even realize she is learning because she is loving shooting the gun so much. I plan to buy a stronger gun later for hunting or maybe targets.

S&W M & P 40 Review
January 1, 2017
Find pistol as a nice reasonably priced handgun that's easy to load and easy to put in CO2 cartridges. Plenty of power too in the advertised 480-500 FPS range.
Problem is the trigger! It's so stiff when u fire it throws off your accuracy terribly. Difficult keeping gun aimed at subject. Pulls off mark. Also, pretty loud for a BB gun.
ProsPower good easy to load
ConsTerribly stiff trigger that pulls u off target. A bit louder than expected

I got this to practice with since I actually own the M&P shield 9. This is the compact version so it is a little larger than the shield but the detailing is very accurate and fits all my same holsters. The Trigger pull is pretty heavy compared to the shield which of course already would have the hammer cocked. It is not a replacement for actually shooting the real gun on the range but still very useful. It provide valuable practice with acquiring the target, steady trigger pull etc. I intend to try to develop intuitive aiming without having to go into a full shooter stance which would be essential in any urgent confrontation ( sort of quick draw technique) In retrospect it might have been better to get the blow back model to better simulate the gun even more closely.
ProsGood power and good accuracy, lack of hitting the target is more my fault as I have not practice enough but did uncover and correct my poor habit of trigger pull
Consheavy trigger pull. BB are easy to get loose in the gun till you figure it out

I bought this gun for proficiency training and plinking. I shoot pistol competitions with the real M&P 40 and i have to say its quiet similar ergonomically. I was overall impressed with the gun but over time I did run into a few issues. My triggers double action feature tightened up on me and it wouldn't fire correctly but i took into the fact that i had been shooting the gun nearly everyday for about 2-3 years so for 40 bucks id have to say that this gun was a steal considering its accuracy and fun for the money.

October 16, 2015
The S&W M&P 40 is a really cool gun, quite accurate out to 20 feet and surprisingly powerful. Only issue I've encountered is that occasionally a bb gets stripped off the mag and left in mag well. Not all the time but it is a little annoying when you are shooting. Only thing keeping if from a 5 star.
ProsAccurate to 20 feet, feels like the real thing
Consnarrow channel to put CO2 cartridge in and the screw in tab is in a restricted space making it harder to load cartridge

Fun & Budget Friendly
August 14, 2015
I've bought many bb and pellet pistols and I must say, I'm very pleased with this gun. I must admit, at first I didn't think it would be as fun since I'm used to shooting air rifles, but like another review said, "get as many bb's, co2 cartridges, and magazines that you can afford because you won't want to put it down." I can second this. Just to mention a small test I ran it through, I put in a new co2 cartridge and shot a full magazine with a few seconds (2 to 4) between shots, then put it away and shot a few (2 to 4) rounds every day. I started this early last week and it is still shooting strong. I did research on youtube (there are many helpful videos) on how long I can keep a co2 cartridge in a gun and also learned a trick to decrease the co2 leak. I'm guessing this is helping the gun to shoot stronger and for more rounds. Regardless, this is the only gun that has lasted this long with the same co2 cartridge. As I say to everyone, if you want a more professional review look on youtube or google it. I haven't found a reliable review with less than 3 stars, which is pretty good for this price.
Pros-Shoots accurately. (6 round group with in an inch diameter, shot at 10 yards out) -The best co2 usage that I've used. (I have the gun stored with co2 and bbs ready to shoot. I haven't changed the co2 cartridge in about 2 weeks and about 3.5 magazines.) -Very affordable for the shooting quality. -Very close and realistic look.
Cons-Very plastic. Out of all the air guns I've had, this is the gun that has the most plastic on its shell (metallic inner components). -If this gun shot pellets it would be my favorite gun to use.

A Good Gun for the price, After Mods.
June 27, 2015
I have had this pistol for about 6 years and being my first bb gun I didn't really have anything to compare it to.

I thought something was strange when I could literally watch the trajectory of every bb from the muzzle to the target as if it had been thrown by a mini mite baseball pitcher and I thought it was very inhumane to hit a gopher in the head three times and have it still walk away.

I had a couple of drinks one night and wondered if it could be modified to shoot faster so I opened it up and found that the spring around the barrel can be stretched about an inch to give more power.

I did so and was amazed at how fast it shot after the mod, I thought holy crap, this thing must be shooting 1200 - 1300' per second now as it really seemed like the bbs were traveling at least three times faster than the "stock" 480 fps that is advertised and I could no longer see 9 out of 10 bbs as they traveled so fast to the target.

Well, I thought something smelled in Denmark so I picked up a chronograph tonight and low and behold, the speed is now averaging around 450 fps.

So, long story short; it could be a dog out of the package. It can be modified to shoot faster but it still won't be over legal non-PAL limit.

I was so excited that the mod worked so well that I bought another one last night. I will test the fps straight out of the box and report back here, then modify it and report the difference.

If anyone knows the SPAM rating, it now goes all the way through the meat of one can and makes a pretty good dent in the back side of the can. It's pretty warm here so I would guess the spam was about 25 degrees celsius.

It's crazy accurate in the aforementioned 'slow' mode because you can literally watch the bbs travel and adjust your aim accordingly so if you didn't get it on the first or second shot the third shot should take the eye out of a gopher at 25 feet, assuming it hasn't moved.
ProsPrice. modification. hi capacity mag.
Conscould be an old dog speed wise - see modification comments.

First air gun
May 28, 2015
This was my first air gun purchase. I picked the M&P because I have a real .40 M&P and wanted to see how it compared. I've been very happy with the purchase so far. For size and feel it's hard to tell the difference other than the weight.

Very Impressed
February 20, 2015
Excellent pistol. Especially for the cost. I have a 30 foot indoor range and once I'm in the groove can shoot 5 inch clusters. Not bad for a gun with no rifling. At 15 feet I can shoot a 3 inch spread. Not as accurate as my 357 pellet pistol, but close. And, at 30 feet I can consistently rip up beer cans. Cheap shooting and it feels like a good fit in my hand. Very pleased.
ProsHigh velocity. Accurate. Easy to load. And as I said, a very good price.

Fun to shoot.
February 19, 2015
I shot this pistol last week and had a lot of fun doing it. I was able to get about 90 shots per co2 cylinder in 40 degree weather. Accuracy is ok once you get the hang of it. I bought extra mags but it shoot so fast seems I was spending a lot of time loading. Be sure to order 5 to 10 mags so you can load them inside during cool weather. It is well worth the money.

For the price it can't be beat!
October 14, 2014
I lubricated everything with Birchwood Casey Synthetic Gun Oil and ordered the Crosman Pelgun oil. I will now use the Pelgun oil exclusively on the seals and the Synthetic oil for the rest including light lube on the magazine.
I've only gone through 2 CO2's but it gets great life, about 9 or 10 19 shot magazines per CO2.
Accuracy @ 30 feet = 4 in 2" circle, 8 in 5" circle & 7 in 8" circle.
As far as the trigger, the way I shoot I aim at the target, I squeeze the trigger until just before the release and zero in/fine tune my target.
The sights work great I just followed the instructions for best accuracy.
It's easy to install the CO2 and load ammo. I ordered the M&P 40 extra magazines from airgundepot as the Crosman one's don't work.
It's not too heavy and not too light really a perfect weight.
I actually bought this to ward off varmints like skunks, squirrels & armadillos but found it was fun to target shoot also.
ProsFor the price it can't be beat!
ConsNone really but it's still pretty new.

this is the second one that I have owned, the first was a reconditioned earth brown which I had few problems with until a slight leak turned into a total seal blowout.the black one I now have is a new model and it performs the same as the brown except no leaks. the gun is fun to shoot and pretty accurate, the only problem is that sometimes a bb will come out of the magazine while it is in the gun and you have to take the magazine out and let the bb come out then re-insert the magazine to continue shooting. overall it is a nice gun.

I purchased the earth brown version and all i can say is wow, perfect for finishing off downed small game. It's also VERY good on co2, I get around 9 mags worth. Extra mags are a great idea. Waste of money
August 7, 2013
I purchased this gun because I was just starting out with air guns, and I wanted something cheap, and accurate that a beginner could use. The gun is all plastic, and very light until you install the magazine and Co2. It's just quiet enough to use in your backyard, but make sure to check with your county laws and regulations regarding air guns first. The trigger pull is *VERY* long and hard, making it difficult to keep the gun steady as you shoot. I feel that if the trigger pull were lighter accuracy would be much better with this pistol. I am very disappointed to say that my M&P 40 did not live up to the standards I had in mind. After reading all of the reviews about it's accuracy I was stoked, until I unboxed it and started shooting some targets. I set up my stand with a sandbag about 10 feet away from a cardboard target on a decent day (no wind, 80 degree temperature) and I shot a 9 inch group with 10 shots total.

I was a little puzzled about the accuracy, so I contacted Umarex to make sure that this was *NOT* normal. The gun tech I spoke with informed me that a 9 inch spread at 10 feet is about where the accuracy of this gun tops off. Disappointed, I said my thanks and hung up. I'm not sure that I'll buy another cheap air gun (or Umarex gun) again for target shooting. I would recommend you save your money and invest it in something that will enjoy shooting.

PLEASE if you must buy this gun, be very careful with the magazine, as it has shot BBs out of the top several times while loading.

ProsShoots hard Optical Sights Large Magazine Low Co2 Consumption
ConsSlick plastic Lightweight Inaccurate / Inconsistent shots Long trigger pull Magazine can "leak" BBs

June 14, 2013
I am a big fan of customer reviews and every one I read about the S&W M&P 40 led me to believe I would not go wrong buying this gun, except the one about the co2 leaking out the barrel, which is just what happened to me. I'm 58 years old and not a stupid person. I followed directions to a T and still listened to my money getting hissed away as the gas leaked out before I could even shoot a full clip of BBs. The aforementioned reviewer suggested a piece of clear tape placed on top of the powerlet before inserting into the gun. If I can manage to calm down and try this before I throw the gun away, and it works, I will update my review. However, for the time being I would suggest to people not to believe everything they read as far as the reviews go.

Exactly the same size and feel as the real M&P, even though it is a little lighter. You can't beat this for setting up a practice range in your garage or basement! Fits your holster just like your real one. Trigger isn't even that much different.
ProsWorks like a charm and is very accurate. You can shoot 5 clips before power falls off too much.

Pleasantly Surprised!!
February 21, 2013
I never imagined out of my 6 BB/Pellet pistols, this one would end up being my most accurate by far, and my favorite as well. Will shoot up to 120 rounds without changing the Co2, accurately and the last as fast as the first shot. At first, I didn't care for the trigger pull, but once I got the Crosman Pellet gun and got used to having to pull a little harder. I got used to it. You get to know when the bullet is going to come out, so when to let your breath out and aim straight, and believe me, it will shoot where you aim it every time. I have an inside machine for plinking and can hit the targets every shot with the Smith. I also had a mouse come out that had ate a little poison, and I hit him once in the head and once in the gut, and he died right there. My friend was there and told me to pick my most accurate pistol. I told him "Give me that Smith" and I can not only shoot targets and a poisoned mouse, from 15-20 feet, whatever you point at. I could not believe I would like this gun so much after what I paid for it.
ProsVery accurate. Shoots over and over without having to change Co2. Shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger and not misfire. Looks cool, and just like a real Walther or Smith and Wesson handgun.
ConsI haven't found much I dislike, yet, but will update when I do. I've had it 6 months, so I doubt I will be updating any time soon.

Took a chance on the refurbished due to price, works fine and the condition is ok. I added the Crosman laser and the bbs go where you point the laser - can't ask for more than that. Will look for more refurbs.
ProsGreat on the CO2, easily getting 150+ shots per cartridge. Reasonably accurate.
ConsBBs sometimes fall out of the magazine that came with it, just have to be careful when handling it. This doesn't happen with the other spare magazines I bought. The manual should mention that you need to push the button on bottom of the magazine to load first round.

Nice accurate gun
August 14, 2012
Very nice replica of the real thing, but the whole gun is plastic. Both velocity and accuracy are good. I love the sights, they are easy to see and lineup. I've been getting around 7 clips per CO2 cartridge. Be careful with this gun it has more power than you think and for the price you cannot go wrong. I recommend getting extra clips, 18 shots goes on fast!
ProsAccuracy and velocity.
ConsI would add some weight to it, maybe some metal and a moving slide. They way you get the CO2 cartridge in is not the best, at least you should be able to get the whole grip or part of the grip apart like some other guns to make it easier. But for the price this is a fun and good gun to have.

Realism and authenticity!
August 9, 2012
Just received my S&W MP40 refurbished today, and overall impressed with the looks and feel of the gun! Overall, just like the real S&W MP40 replica, except for some minor features, that I would like to list them below! If you like the S&W MP series, then this gun is the best buy for the price (refurbished) or new which ever you prefer! This is the only airgun available by Umarex, licensed to use the S&W logo, no other airgun manufacture or even airsoft companies duplicates the S&W MP series (Umarex makes the same pistol in airsoft) to my knowledge! So, purchase-one thru Airgun Depot today!
ProsOverall, looks and feel like the real S&W MP40 with authenticity features, although most are for cosmetics looks only! S&W markings and logos are realistic and the feel of the gun, realistic! The only give-away is the safety-switch!
ConsCould have added more weight in some areas, overall feels light, the bottom grip for the magazine and Co2 could have been more realistic metal magazine which holds the BB's and Co2 together, so magazine sticks-out in a angle from the bottom, just like the real S&W MP40, replace the rear-fiber-optic sights (green) with the regular white-dots, and it would have been great if had a moving metal top slide, for the actual firing realism, although being a non-blowback! They could have made-it a blowback instead!

Great Gun!
May 24, 2012
I've had this gun for about 3 months and it was worth every penny I love it its really strong i destroyed a can of dr pepper in 1 shot from a good distance, its also accurate, attractive, and the perfect weight and this gun is definitely durable because i have the tenancy to drop stuff and it still works great no matter how many times it gets body slammed. However it has let me down once, after about my fifth time putting in co2 i screwed it in and all the gas came shooting out the barrel but it was an easy fix because, if you have this gun or are getting it If It leaks just take some clear tape and put it over the top of the co2 and put it in the gun I promise It'll work but overall this is a great gun.If u have any questions comment.

Great starter pistol for a 10 year old who is learning to handle a weapon and learn how to shoot. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great reliable gun. We ran 1000's of bb's through it already and it never jammed and it is very accurate and powerful. The next purchase is the laser sight and target trap.

Great Buy
April 12, 2012
Wife & I bought this to practice with. Very similar to the real M&P and much cheaper to practice with vrs real 9mm ammo!. Has helped her shot group and to get ready for a CCW course. (our instructor will have a "Shoot & Move" [email protected] a private range) NO problems with furnished clip & Daisy BB's. However ! The cheaper Crosman clips I bought are falling out. So get the Umarex clips for this one. My refurbished M&P was Tan & Black and made by Umarex. One note - If U have a hard shell retention clip holster (her's is a Serpa) for your Real M&P, this one will hang up in the holster. Works fine with my Uncle Mikes nylon paddle holster
Prospower for cost, Very Accurate for a smooth bore pistol & only $26 Great for practicing F.A.S.T. Drills (Pistol
ConsOther than it would not work with a Sherpa Holster, Nothing !

S&W M&P40 CO2 BB
April 7, 2012
Just replaced the 30 yr old with this. Super fun, plenty of punch and reasonably accurate. Took grand-daughters out for some plinking. They blasted up every can, rock, blades of grass unitl it started to rain. 600 plus rounds with no problems.
ProsFit and finish are not too bad. For me it is the right fit on my hand.
Consvery little to complain about, except the cartridge screw is a bit tough to use but not a reason to reject this fun gun!

Great Gun
April 4, 2012
Bought this to do quick draw practice with as it's similar in size to my Ruger. It's very accurate, other than being lighter, it's very similar to my real gun. I'm able to draw and hit the bulls eye easily at 15 yards (45'), so it's been a great practice gun.
ProsAccurate, easy to load, easy to change CO2, can get about 8-9 magazines per CO2

great gun!!!!
December 6, 2011
i got this gun over ten months ago and still works like the day i buoght it. ive shot at cans at around 100ft in coswinds of 20mph and i still hit them. all of the outer parts of the gun are made of good quality plastic the triger the sights everything. the internal parts however are made of steel aluminum and other metals. the gun is not ambidextrous. the safety switch is located on the right side obove the triger. the sights or fixed on the gun not adjustible but accurate. the triger is a double triger. the triger pull is not that hevy and a little long. that's because it cycles the round during the triger pull. i can shoot 6 rounds per secund with this gun. the drop out magazing si the same one as the berreta Elite ll crosman c31 c11 c21 and c41 pistols. the handle slides back revealing the co2 chamber and when it slides back into place it hides the co2 screw. the gun shoots very strong and very accurate at close and long range. it shoots so accurate i dont even use the sights. if your not accurate with this pistol pratice some more. and if your still not accurate with this gone practice even harder. and if you still cant get accurate shots its either 3 things. 1 you have a difective gun which i very highly doubt it. 2 your not even trying and. 3 you simply suck at shooting. the feel of the gun is very comfortable. would i recommend this gun to anybody i alredy did. over all great gun very powerfull very accurate and very reliable......small tip leave your co2 cylynder to warm up in the sun just for a little bit not to much for max speed and power.

An absolute joy to shoot
November 20, 2011
I have thoroughly enjoyed shooting this pistol. It was purchased for training purposes, and has more than lived up to expectations. It seems to shoot a bit high and to the right, with the occasional thrown shot, but has been a joy to shoot for the first 1,000 shots.
ProsEase of operation Flawless functionality Excellent for training Ridiculously fun

bummed out!
November 15, 2011
great fun for the few months i got out of it. only used it 20 or 30 times and a seal must be bad cause now the co2 leaks out immediately. A shame cause everyone who shot it loved it including my mom and shes scared of guns but she was hitting cans at 40 ft.. With 30 day return policy i barely got my $s worth and i bought the extra cartridges which was helpful. they r made by crossman so maybe ill try my luck with their version of air pistol.
Merchant Response:I'm not sure if you've tried this but sometimes seal leaks can be fixed with pellgun oil. Put one or two drops on the tip of a co2 cartridge before you put it in the gun. Also the gun has a 1 year warranty from umarex so of that doesn't fix it umarex will take care of it. Also just a note to never leave a co2 cartridge in the air pistol during storage. It will cause the seals to wear out pretty fast (I'm not sure if you did this or not)
Proseasy to use. accurate enough.functioned well till it died.looks exactly like the real 9mm.
Consthat its seal leaked so quickly!

Believe it or not I killed a rattlesnake at about 12 feet with this bb gun! Its pretty accurate at about 30 feet or so. I like it, the trigger is heavy though.

I bought without many expectations, but after a few shots I realized that this airgun is excellent. Pretty solid in its construction, good grip and very accurate for small and medium distances. No doubt an excellent buy.

Decent airgun
October 23, 2010
this is a fine air gun all in all. one Co2 cartridge lasts between 7 and 9 clips. it has excellent accuracy from about 30 yards. only draw back i have found is that it takes alot of pressure to pul the trigger which will throw off your aim having to squeeze that hard. all in all a great gun for begginers or experts.

Good gun. Plenty of power for a pistol with this price tag. I have a crossman with a laser and 550fps, m & p smith and wesson much better at a third of the price

Get this Gun!
August 4, 2010
I have owned this pistol for 6 months now. It belongs in every airgunners arsenal. Why? The price alone on this refurb makes it a no-brainer. You get a lightweight; under a pound, powerful, well built, soda can mutilator. I cannot miss at 20-25 feet with this gun. The rear, green, fiber optic sight, demands my cooperation to be on-target. Plus the magazines are compatible with Crosman C series BB guns as well as the awesome Beretta Elite II. CO2 efficiency is prime, at least 75 quality shots before a drop in velocity. Get one as soon as they are available, even at full price.

better than the daisy powerline 15xt
May 27, 2010
just got this pistol (well the refurbished one) and like the overall quality and feel of it and have seen that it is a much better gun than the daisy powerline 15xt IMHO. they are both rated at the same fps but the s&w mp seems to shoot just a little harder and so far it appeers more accurate, the s&w has a much lighter trigger pull wich really helps increase accuracy and the sighting system on this gun works so well i wonder why they dont put on the real gun?
