Great gun for bringing new shooters into the fold! There are several good reasons to get the Umarex NXG APX airgun:
  1. Safe-T-Matic auto-safety that puts the gun on safe every time it's pumped and can avoid misfires common to new shooters.
  2. EZ-Load pellet ramp for flawless loading every time.
  3. Ergonomic stock design accommodates right- and left-handed shooters.
  4. Lightweight scope that can be introduced once the shooter has learned to use the open sights.
  5. Impact-resistant gun stock -- which is handy when you have young shooters who may not be as careful or as adept at handling guns.

Umarex NXG APX Air Rifle Features
  • Multi-pump pneumatic
  • 2-10 pumps

  • Safe-T-Matic automatic safety system
  • EZ-Load pellet ramp

*The box and manual state the gun has a Picatinny rail. It does not. The optics rail has a clamping width of exactly 3/8 of an inch (9.5mm). A Picatinny rail has a clamping width of 21mm. The scope has a tube diameter of 3/4 of an inch. Steel BBs can ricochet. The shooter and everyone in the shooting area should wear safety glasses when a gun is being handled (even if it's unloaded). Remember to remove all pets from the area as rebounding ammo can hit them too. Never shoot steel BBs at hard objects (including metal targets) or water as that increases the chance of ricochet.

i only give it a three star rating because the power, weight and the stock grip. the hole in the end of the barrel for the site was drilled off all wrong...its not straight but i just loosened the screw and turned it to about where i see to be straight down the barrel....cant site in the scope or laser to it if the sites arent straight...

Pros
power, weight and the stock grip.

Cons
(Personal experiece) the hole in the end of the barrel for the site was drilled off all wrong...its not straight but i just loosened the screw and turned it to about where i see to be straight down the barrel....cant site in the scope or laser to it if the sites arent straight

The daisy red-ryder I had as an 8 year old was a more accurate gun.

I am an experienced precision shooter, and with this gun scoped and on a bench rest at 50 foot, I was shooting 12+ inch 'groups'. In other words, the shots were all over the target backboard. I say backboard, because out of 12 shots, only two hit the 11x7 paper target. Aiming at the same spot every time, I would get one shot off the paper high and right, the next shot off the paper low and left. It was impossible to sight in.

Horrible accuracy.

Pros
Plenty of power

Cons
Horrible trigger 'picatinny rail' is , well, not a picatinny rail, it only looks like one. safety is difficult to turn off with your trigger hand.

I bought this gun to teach 2 of my grand kids how to shoot safely and have fun. I am delighted with it. the auto safety is a great feature that gives me peace of mind. My oldest is 8 yrs old and calls me every day to see if I can pick her up to shoot in my basement. I look forward to many years of fun with this gun.

Pros
Auto safety quiet light weight easy for beginners to use

Cons
stock is slighlty longer than ideal for small children to aim properly.

The trigger is horrible. Fit and finish I love this Rifle. Raised cheek comb for scopes." IT IS NOT A 3/4" PICATINNY RAIL SYSTEM" just a standard 3/8 dovetail mount with notches in it... The structure of the gun is solid and great. Back to the trigger, massive creep with a sloppy break( Umarex please put a crisp trigger in the newer models). The safety is manageable, but seems cheap... It would be nice to see a fixed air moderator on this rifle Also In .22cal. My neighbors know when I shoot it. Accuracy is dependent on how well you get the trigger. Delete the cool guy safety for a better trigger and add a moderator- 130$ Pump gun would be legit.

Okay, it's cool, and looks cool, but over all its not that cool. It's your run of the mill pump air rifle. Now, the open sights, they work great, as they are mounted on the barrel, but, if you wish to affix an accurate scope, choose a different gun. The mount is NOT on the barrel. It is on the plastic. Meaning that it moves, and must be sighted in constantly. Also, the scope that comes with it isn't great, and hard to sight in, but, for a kid shooting paper, it works. So, if you wish to hunt with it, think again.

Pros
Open sights are decent. Nice safety feature. Decently accurate.

Cons
Craptastic scope mount. Not too powerful.

What is the best pellet used on this air rifle

asked jm a.gequillana

.177 hollow point destroyer's by crosman work nice, theres also red ceramic tipped .177 hollow points by some other brand ive shot, theyre a little more accurate, but less likely to kill, if you're hunting squirrels or bunnies.
