The Air Venturi AV-46M looks and feels like the illustrious Russian airgun that's now difficult to find, and it has the same famous accuracy and features. Capable of reaching speeds up to 480 fps, and requiring a pumping effort of only around 18 lbs., this air pistol gives you a great way to start with 10 meter competition target shooting, or a gun that will take your abilities to the next level.

This air pistol allows you to train without the effort of continued pumping of the lever or the waste of firing pellets, because you can dry fire it. That gives you a quick and easy method of practicing match techniques like trigger control, follow through, grip, and breathing.

It's also a great way to get lots of features you need for pinpoint accuracy, like a fully adjustable 2 stage trigger. You can adjust the blade position, first and second stage pull length, and pull weight, so you get the crisp break you need to shoot your best.

To give you the hold that works best for you, the stylish black and red laminate grip includes a palm shelf that can be adjusted, or even removed completely. For further accuracy, this air pistol features top notch sights, including a fixed post front sight, and a fully adjustable rear sight that adjusts for elevation and windage.

Whether you're new to competitive shooting or just want an extremely accurate air pistol with features that are perfect for training, you'll enjoy the Air Venturi AV-46M, so get one today air Airgun Depot.

Could someone who has one of these that actually shoots in the high 400s please check their piston and rod fitting? It's quite easy to do just by looking down the cylinder when open for cocking. I'd love to know if mine is adjusted to lower pressure. Enclosed is the picture I'm comparing mine to.

Pros
Wonderful and wonderfully mechanical pistol

Cons
see my previous comment (why can't we reply to things here?) Here's what Peter said- "The AV 46M sold via the sister company, Pyramyd Air were recalled to adjust their power up to spec. They had been adjusted down for import from Russia and this resulted in some pellets not exiting the barrel." And that's my symptom to a T, and I got mine from AD, not Pyramyd - it's serial #0008 as I mentioned, but I didn't get any notice about a recall and I'm now quite sure I got one of the 'tampered with' units - if I sight down the cylinder and look at the piston, I can see that the rod is attached to a fitting that is screwed in, and mine is screwed in at least 3-4 mm. In pics I've found of this same mechanism, the fitting is nearly flush with the piston edge. This means that mine is indeed stopping significantly short of where it's designed to. Hello? Why was I not contacted about this since it sure looks like this needs to be adjusted back to spec. ?

To support what I said, go to the PA user review here: www.pyramydair.com/product/air-venturi-av-46m-match-air-pistol?m=5257 Click on "load more" to see earlier reviews where the problem is discussed. Adjusting the power is actually easy, if you care to do so: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=153027.msg155687779#msg155687779 . Yes, working on your pistol may affect the warranty. However, it is easy and may save a lot of frustration in shipping back and forth.

I've hardly played with the trigger adjustments at all, but did dial in a later second stage. The trigger is very good, although I'm not a real judge, but I got used to it quickly and easily, and actually have the feeling I'm repeating shots, which is kind of the shooter's dream, and this pistol wants to be known well and settles in nicely. Going to be spending lots of time with this one, pretty sure.

Pros
Yes, been wanting this for a long time - just came and I've already spent many hours with it, mostly happily. It's so _mechanical_! Took me several pellets to zero it in, which I did entirely handheld in one-handed competition style, which meant it took much longer than using a bench rest, but I did want to get a feel about how it felt to fire it for a decent stretch of time. I'm getting nice quarter size groups now in my 10 meter hallway. The grip is a good size for my hand, and I've been sanding down only specific areas - there are some strong edges to begin with. It's a very attractive grip, but with the one-handed shooting stance you need your hand held tightly, and this works. Haven't used any 'match' pellets as of yet extensively - mostly shot the new H&N Excite Econ wadcutters, which seem more than good, and great for the price. I did shoot some RWS match pellets, and they did just fine too. But....

Cons
all the pellets I was using with no issues were 7.4 gram or less wadcutters - and when I started to use a heavier pellet, an 8.2, the gun 'misfired' - I'd cock it, load the pellet, but nada - the trigger clicked but that's it. It seemed to also be consistent. But, when I did the three half-pumps to increase pressure (which seems to work, because...) it would shoot every time. Looks like there's some weird 'sense' with the air chamber about pellet weight? At any rate, the pistol is probably designed for the lighter pellets anyway, but I am wondering if I got a lemon? It's serial # 00008, which is very neat - don't think I've ever gotten anything that new to the world before this. Then again, every time I use the lighter pellets, no problem, shoots every time.

I understand that this model by Air Venturi is a clone of the original 46M. Was an effort made by AV to improve on the accuracy? This would be great to know, because while the 46M was accurate by lesser guns standards, it wasn't as accurate as precision class air-pistols. Has AV done any real-world accuracy tests? Something that provides ctc group accuracy?

asked Victor from Afghanistan

The original 46M was notorious for having a large grip and requiring very large hands, or hands with long fingers. This limited the guns potential audience. Was that addressed in this model?

Do not have an IZH to compare, but the grip on this needed for me to do just a very meager bit of sanding down to fit my quite ordinarily sized hand - I take L in latex gloves, for instance. So I'd consider that addressed.

Wade from USA

Is this pistol right hand only, or left also.
