It’s a new year, and with the new year comes a new top guns article. In this article, we’ll take a look at our top picks for CO2-powered airguns as we jump into 2022. CO2 airguns come in all shapes and sizes. This article will look at CO2-powered rifles rather than CO2-powered pistols.
6 – Umarex Fusion 2
Often overlooked, the Umarex Fusion 2 is an exceptional value for the money. The .177 caliber Fusion 2 builds upon the Fusion 1 with a new stock design, better noise suppression, multi-shot magazine system, and m-lock compatibility. It can deliver up to 9 foot-pounds of energy with 25 to 30-yard accuracy. It’s a great starting point for those that want the accuracy of a PCP but not the expense of all the gear to make them go. True, it won’t have the power or range of a PCP, but it is very fun to shoot, and if you keep your shots inside 25 yards, you’ll not be disappointed.
5 – Crosman DPMS Variants
Crosman teamed up with DPMS to create a very realistic AR15 CO2-powered BB rifle. The DPMS from Crosman is select-fire in both semi and fully automatic. It’s able to send BBs downrange at over 400 FPS. It features realistic weight and function. The Crosman DPMS is a great backyard training tool for when you can’t get out to the range or simply don’t want to spend money on live rounds on practice. Match the DPMS with the Air Venturi Dust Devil BBs and the Air Venturi Diamond targets, and anyone can create a training course right in their backyard.
4 – Springfield Armory M1 Carbine
If you like old military firearms, you will love the Springfield Armory M1 Carbine. This airgun drills targets with surprising accuracy. What’s so impressive about this airgun is how well the designers captured the original M1 Carbine. While you may not get many shots per CO2, the shots you do get are solid with a very satisfying rack of the blowback system. It’s a real treat to shoot.
3 – Beeman QB 78 Deluxe
The Beeman QB series airguns come in several shapes and sizes. The QB 78 Deluxe is a cut above the rest with a premium stock, gold accent trigger and bolt, and fully adjustable fiber optic sights. The Beeman QB78 is one of the few CO2 rifles available in both .177 and .22 calibers. The .177 version is ideal for precision target practice, where the .22 is more than adequate for small game and pesting, provided your shots are inside 20 yards, and you hit your mark. There are many Beeman QB CO2 airgun variants that deserve a place on this list. We’ve chosen the 78 Deluxe for its overall value, but don’t hesitate to check out all the QB 78 / 79 variants. They are all great.
2 – Crosman 1077
The Crosman 1077 Wood Stock model was unavailable for a few years, but consumer demand has brought it back. The 1077 line is a semi-automatic pellet rifle (while called semi-auto it would be more accurate to classify it as double action) that can send lead pellets downrange as fast as the shooter can pull the trigger. The accuracy is surprising given its affordability. The wood stock along with the classic lines and overall performance nets the Crosman 1077 Wood Stock the 2nd spot in our top CO2 airguns for 2022.
1 – Umarex Legends M1A1
The M1A1 from Umarex is a beast of a CO2-powered BB Rifle. It’s able to send 30 rounds down range nearly in the blink of an eye. It’s also incredibly accurate. The Umarex M1A1 is a select-fire CO2 rifle in that it can fire both semi-automatic and fully automatic. The drop-free magazine holds two 12 gram CO2 cartridges that drive the BBs and the blow-back system. While you may think that the M1A1’s shot count would be terrible, that’s not at all the case. Delivering 90 shots per set of CO2, you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck for sure. The weight, feel, and operation all come together to make a great CO2 BB Rifle, one that tops our list for 2022.
