Automatic bb guns are just plain fun to shoot. They are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Semi or fully automatic BB machine guns use CO2 as the powerplant, but there are mod kits available so you can use a paintball tank instead of the small 12 gram or the larger 88 gram cartridges. These larger tanks give you hundreds of shots before you have to refill them so it's a nice option to have when blasting away with a full auto bb pistol or machine gun.

What is full auto?

A fully automatic (or full auto) bb gun constantly sends ammo downrange when the trigger is squeezed and only stops when the trigger is released, CO2 runs out or the ammo magazine is empty. This is slightly different than semi auto bb machine guns which have several fire mode options such as one, three or six shot burst mode with each squeeze of the trigger. You can find airguns that offer full auto, semi auto, or full & semi auto together.

In the past, if you wanted a full auto bb gun and owned the Drozd Blackbird, you would need to buy a third party mod chip that would allow it to fire in full automatic mode with 1200 rounds per minute. Today, manufacturers are adding full and semi automatic models to their lineup every year, some even include a realistic blowback action. If you are looking for a machine gun like experience to blast cans, glass, plates or anything that breaks you will have a ton of fun with a full automatic or semi-automatic bb gun.

How powerful are full auto bb guns?

Automatic bb guns are not designed for maximum power, but for maximum fun. You will find that the majority of the available airguns offer between 250-500 fps (feet-per-second) which only translates to a maximum of 2.83 fpe (foot-pounds-of-energy). One option on the market is the Hatsan Blitz full auto pellet gun which can get up to 53 fpe in the .30 caliber configuration. But with any option, whether you use a full or semi automatic bb gun you sacrifice accuracy.
